Would agree with this. First goal very soft and second goal wa slucky, the ball ricocheted of the guys foot and fell perfectly for him to then dink it past Messlier. Third goal is a good hit, maybe Messlier should have done better hard to tell. We've got into some good positions but then tried to be too perfect.

For me I would say we're getting closer to knitting together so it is a case of progress being made - should be reet for the season.

I was actually thinking that we haven’t looked 3 goals worse, but they are much better at keeping the ball, especially at the back, and their passing in the final third is much more incisive.

Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and acknowledge a better side, I just wish this wasn’t one of them. :(

We had a 15 minute spell after they scored where we looked ok going forward until we reached their box. Ajax seem to have worked out our weaknesses pretty quickly. Running straight thru cm or a runner stretching the defence in behind. Im sure it will come together when we are at full strength.

Surely Marcelo is putting Costa in the shop window this pre-season?

I hate to say it but our record signing looks awful tonight, beaten for pace by everyone and giving the ball away repeatedly. Come on Rodders, show us what you have in the locker that made us pay the big money……

I know the results dont matter but the performances for all our pre season matches have been poor.

Losing to a group of 17/18 year olds in the Ajax academy though, no excuse for that.

Also the idea that we dont need 4 or 5 first choice 18 signings i ludicrous imo.

Why didn’t we play like this in first half, very annoying.

What was Bielsa doing there? Asking Shack to get up?

Sick and tired of Meslier’s stupid passes. Just smash the ball away from our half instead of those cheeky passes

4-0 this isnt acceptable and combined with the performances all pre season its worrying imo.

Really sloppy all pre season and very little quality.

Completely agree, can’t expect the same players season after season to keep producing, needed a minor refresh this summer and for whatever reason we haven’t bothered. Should have enough to stay up but worry is creeping in

If we’re worried Radz & Bielsa must be more so, it may be the trigger for some higher-quality investment rather than buying players to improve.

Ajax appear to be the club we aspire to become - no matter how many subs they put on they all seemed to slot in seamlessly irrespective of age, and honestly taught us a lesson in playing out, pressing and clinical finishing.

I've been working so couldn't fully concentrate on the match, but just seemed like we got a lesson in football.

I'm sure Lewis O'Brien will sort it all out though

We maybe should've kept hold of Kiko and Jay Roy Grot :duno:

There we have it, some pointers to take away from this game. Ajax fully deserved the result, but it was not an emphatic 4-0 hammering. We definately missed the glue that holds us together in Kalvin, Llorente sorely missed to control the box. Luke needs to be at right back we need his skills down the right side. Lets not forget, pre season or not this is not a minor team we were playing, but one of the top clubs in the world, a techniclly gifted team. We showed them far to much respect at the back and we were a little lack luster up front.

Onwards...MB will have it sorted for the opener...MOT
