MB pre Wet Spam

Post by Cjay »

Differences between this and last season

Our project to play is the same as last year. The other side I don't see the opponent has any different antidotes to last season.

Admiration for Moyes and the job he's done

West Ham is a team same as last season. They have improved in their creative play. They have a very stable manner in which they play. The majority of the players are better this year than last.

Leicester and West Ham inspire Leeds?

That hasn't happened.

Seven-week break planned for World Cup - how disruptive?

I don't have any desire to have an opinion on that subject. First of all, because I don't have enough information over it. Second of all, I don't have all the information you need to articulate an opinion. This has only one solution. Someone has to look out for the quality of the game rather than the money we earn. I haven't heard of any projects which generate less revenue. Given the only possibility for this to improve is playing less and not more, the players and the managers from clubs and countries, can prepare for the games and have players who have rested sufficiently. For that, we need to play less. Apart from that, also to articulate, to be very clear: the right of the federation and of the clubs as owners of the players, this is not a problem of bad design. All we have to do is take a step to earn less and the first to do this is us. As long as those who make the decisions show they are also willing to make less. Before or after, this will explode. Criteria is inferior, we want to earn more and for you guys not to say anything we are going to pay you. Players who are tired, saturated, over-demanded, hurt. Unsatisfied coaches, especially at the national teams. If the rules are not to protect the spirit of the game. All of this, I am not saying it, I read it every day. These conclusions I did not invent. Not my creation. Heard them. Less interest involved. Listen to those who don't win anything from the right decisions,. Only ones who give free opinion. All the other opinions are conditioned by business. Not worth talking about this because I reiterate, not my opinion. Listen to the wise opinions of those who earn nothing and lose nothing from this. Common sense. See who takes this forward. This information have to have support of those who pay you.

Impact on pre-season of this and the players who come back from the WC?

What I can say about this, I already have

McCarron contract - what's he improved?

As time goes by, at his age, gets him closer or further away from the competitive level. One year close contact with the first team. Shortened the distance to compare himself with the other players. Argument applied to evaluate a future of a player

Left-back or left winger?

Nowadays there are no full-backs who can't play forward and vice versa. Even if teams have nominated full-backs and wingers. Arnold and Robertson are wingers depending on their opposition. If they play wingers who force them to defend, they are both things, if not wingers the whole game. Not because they don't have wingers in front of them. Salah and Mane in front of them.

Cresswell PL ready?

No inconveniences. Performance on the other day is not definitive. A lot of arguments he took advantage of his opportunity. He observed in the game against Newcastle, after taking Ayling off, I pushed Shackleton in as DM and Phillips in the backline, instead of Cresswell coming straight on, more natural. Indicates a position of mine on Cresswell. After Fulham, taken a big step forward. I have to read that message

Injuries - any back? Latest?

Llorente, Koch and Bamford not available. Not sure on any others.

Harrison isolation?

Harrison would be in condition to play with the protocols. Just because the rules say he can does not mean he will be ready to play.

Ayling?

Don't think I'm holding back information, but my first response on Koch, Llorente and Bamford not participate. These three cases, apart, subject to evolution on whether that will allow them to participate. If I said they would definitely play or not, neither would be certain. [Confused answer]

How challenging this period?

We have enough players. Prepared to adapt to the circumstances. Fulham we had eight or nine unavailable. Could not say it does not matter so many players were not available. Of course, added difficulty when other players are in the same position, but for a long time I have been working here now. Comes a time when you have to demonstrate the project can resolve these uncomfortable situations. Eighteen players. Fifteen or 16 who respond to the profile. McCarron for example. Can't feed the plans around the young players. When we have to use them, there is an argument first-team players are missing.

More ruthless?

Efficiency's for teams in a good run of form. All that's changed is the mechanisms to make offensive football.

Flores's new job? Others in your staff you see managing?

People who work assisting the principal manager, they have to have the features a manager has. In the case of Flores and Corberan, very valuable people. Aptitude to become managers. Worked closely to us. Main reason does not create important. Coaches are good if they give orders that are followed. Content of what they propose, when they try to convince or demand they are obeyed does not have major importance. Knowledge less important than the ability to convince. A lot of ideas that try to be very different. Very few coaches who try if they don't manage to convince or be obeyed, great virtues Flores and Corberan have. People who have constructed themselves. Dream all my staff will abandon me to find their own way.

How much do you value your staff being with you?

I always recommend they leave.

Always think this season may be harder?

I never imagined anything easy. The two things you make reference to have correction. To elaborate there are more chances which create danger. We have a margin for correction in both aspects.

Cresswell impressed, may have forced his way further up the pecking order.

3 players definitely out and 3 more potentially.

Always urges his staff to leave to fulfil their own ambitions.

It would be ludicrous not to start Cresswell if Koch, Llorente, Struijk and Ayling are all missing.
To put Phillips there will seriously weaken our midfield.
Not too worried about Harrison not being available as we have Raphinha, James and Summerville.

Fully agree, MB has this rather frustrating habit of making 3 or 4 changes when only 1 would do, hopefully Cresswell has managed to impress enough for that not to happen.

Ah Raphinha is one of the other 3 who could be out Chilli.

It may haVe to be Summerville and James.

Tbf it's not uncommon for injured players to travel with the squad to support their teammates

I take your point however I'd have thought he would benefit more from resting unless of course he is that close to a return but obviously he's not as close to returning as we thought.

Apparently we have the resources to cope

Have we?

Well, we haven't played our best XI yet & consequently not won a PL game.
