MB Post Southampton

Post by Cjay »

If you can be bothered . . . .

Bielsa's here - not Leeds-like performance?

The defeat was fair. Justified in the first half. Even if it scored in the second. Did not play well before then. Difficult to stop them being fluid. Difficult to recover in the middleof the pitch the ball. Did not prevent their possession leading to attacks. Our game did not like we usually do. A lack of energy? Perhaps not as powerful as are used to., Don't believe did not run though. Second half, not that we played well but in the first half we were overcome, we were not overcome in the second. Normally when a team loses energy that's put it into evidence. Did not see that.

Missing players a big factor?

It's not common a team loses six players. I can'tnot admit it.We started the game with 11 players that participate. Pascal is not a new starter. Shackleton and Tyler the same. We started with players who do play often

Explain absences

Raphinha we decided he would fly after his game, but without knowing how many minutes he would play. Played 70, flew 15 hours. Today he was not in conditions to play.

Phillips: two weeks after Watford, working on the injury bothering him. Muyscular problem in the calf. During those days, a problem in his hip for a while and those two joined together, even if close to playing, conditions were not the necessary ones to play.

Firpo: muscular problem on Thursday. The absent players - Firpo only muscular problem. Ayling knee, Phillips and Koch hips, Bamford ankle, Raphinha fatigue.

Why so hard to make chances?

I have tried to explain why with the prior responses. Difficult to recover the ball in their half. Difficult to stop their first pass into our half. Hard to find the opponent out of position which facilitates the attack. Their attacks always finished in our box. Our play always started from really far back. We had chances to facilitate our play and receive the ball, but we went wide too much. Did not manage to get the ball forward with Pascal or Klich. Always came out wide.

Half-time message? Changes?

The message was to describe these problems. Propose a way we solve them. Stuck with the same players. Differences shortened after the break. Did not dominate, but stopped being dominated. One of the few moments we did well: they managed to score. Without playing well, the differences in the first half justified the win.

Have you noticed the team playing any worse when playing with a back four or a back three?

To play with a back three or a back four has one justification: if the opponent plays with two centre-forwards we always try to defend with one player [spare]. Throughout the game, those centre-forwards change heights, and throughout a lot of moments in those games, Llorente and Cooper are behind Pascal who pushes up a bit. The quality of the game is not linked to the distribution of how we play.

Did you feel Joe Gelhardt had the time to make a difference today on his Premier League debut?

To consider if a player's had enough time to show his abilities, you need a lot more minutes than what he played today or what he's played up until now.

"Difficult to recover the ball in midfield" because we haven't got one.

Strange, as Marcelo insists we have plenty of cover in our squad

You can't keep polishing turds is more like the truth.

Bit rude. We might not always agree with his choices/decisions/results BUT he has been a breath of fresh air for our team. :bear:
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

So when they knew Raphinha had a 15 hour flight and had only finished playing a match 36 hours before, what was the rush to get him to Southampton?

You would know he would be knackered so you either make the decision to leave him in Brazil for a good rest with his family, or you drag him back to play him regardless of his condition.

I'm astounded that we dragged him back to sit in the stands and watch that pile of shite. Are we just trying to piss him off or what?

I really find that decision even more astonishing than bringing Forshaw on when we're getting humped left, right and centre :?

Maybe they didn't want Raph to catch Covid whilst over there, Brazil is riddled with the virus!

I listen less and less to MB's post match analysis these days. It feels nothing really gets rectified and there's a certain predictablility to it. As for Raphinha, he will most certainly be gone in the summer. The ambition of the club probably doesn't align with his, I wouldn't blame him if does go.
