Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 19th July) - Junior Adamu is the latest forward linked to Leeds

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 19th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Adamu emerges as cheaper option up front emerges as cheaper option up front

Junior Adamu is the latest in a long line of forwards, linked to a Summer move to Elland Road. Adamu, 21, was born in Kano, Nigeria, but has represented Austria at Youth and Senior level, his one cap coming against Israel last November. He bagged nine goals from 43 appearances for RB Saltsburg last season.

Several Premier League clubs have shown an interest in Adamu, but have yet to back up their interest with an offer. Given his inexperience, a £12m price tag seems fair. It's certainly a more affordable option than Martin Terrier. Rennes have slapped a £34m price tag on their former French U21 star after netting 21 times last season. West Ham and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the 25 year old.

Does Bamford have a future at Elland Road?

It's fair to say that Patrick Bamford had a season to forget last term. He was dogged with various injuries to both his hamstring and ankle, and then, to make matters worse, his plantar fascia ruptured. The icing on the cake was at the end of the season, when Leeds finally got him match fit - he caught Covid!

Compared to the 38 appearances, he made the season before, netting 17 times, and creating 8 assists, the fall from grace has been monumental. There are major doubts whether the soon-to-be 29yo can reach the dizzy heights of two years ago. He is yet to score in 2022, and has looked rusty when we have seen him play.

Does Bamford have a future at Elland Road? Can he replicate the form he showed two seasons ago, or is it time that Leeds cut their losses?

PSG transfer list Arnaut Kalimuendo

With 18 days to go before the start of the new season, Leeds find themselves in the difficult position of only having a partly fit Patrick Bamford to lead their line. Having missed out on a host of forwards this Summer, Victor Orta is rapidly running out of time to find a goalscorer. Whilst Leeds have missed out on first choice forwards Eddie Nketiah and Charles De Ketelaere, they have been handed a massive boost by French Giants PSG.

Leeds have been tracking Arnaut Kalimuendo all Summer, and made a £16m offer for the youngster last month, before losing interest once they heard De Ketelaere was available. Now that the Belgium International is off to the San Siro, Leeds have opened up negotiations with PSG. Kalimuendo is currently on a pre-season tour of Japan where he has already caught the eye of new Manager Christophe Galtier.

If we are looking at inexperienced younger players to fill a role where an experienced striker is needed, we might as well just stick Sam Greenwood AND Joe Gelhardt up front. It's likely Bamford will not get his form back (hope I'm wrong) and Rodrigo just cannot hack Premier League football. Why leave a top striker til last? We have needed one for 18 months...

Aah, the Nordic Meat Shield! Will we ever attain an altitude high enough for him to consider coming here in the future? Not under Radz but maybe under the 49'ers he will...

morning EB et all

I don't know anything about the 2 probably going on for 52 strikers we are been linked with apart from YouTube videos and they all look amazing on that so lets sign all 52, I'm sure at least 1 will work out :duno:

Bamford oh Bamford please stop getting injured, I was one of his biggest detractors throughout the his first few years with us, even when we got into the Prem I wasn't convinced he was good enough but our first season showed how wrong I was, last season we desperately needed him but he kept getting injured an so far in Pre-Season he's looked leggy, off the pace and not very sharp in front of goal so lets put him down now and save all the heart ache of dragging it out and him been in pain., or better still lets see if he does get his game fitness and smashes it this coming season.

As for a back up striker yes lets get someone in because we didn't last season and look what happened, I love Joffy but he's more injury prone that Bamford, James will never score double figures in a season, Rodrigo needs to go play somewhere else so it leave us a bit thin on the ground for proven goal getters, so yes bring in a young hungry striker as proven previously ( a few exceptions) it takes most players at least a season to adapt to Prem life so been Bamford's number 2 for a year has got to help that progress
A bumble bee under the laws of physics shouldnt be able to fly, but it does because no one has told it that it can't

Bamford's got another 4 years at £75k a week left. Such a ridiculous decision.

No.
Maybe we can get a vegan shield. But definitely not meat.
Actually agree with you though. Why would we be looking for an inexperienced unproven striker when we have JG who looks the business.
Obviously we need some back up with doubts about Paddy but there must be better options. Cornet has already been mentioned.

Surely the club should be swimming in money given we sold two players on the cheap? The "cheap option" won't wash with the fanbase and rightly so.

It’s not a position where we take a cheap punt at. The PSG guy maybe and looks like our best option.

We don’t want another “prospect “ that will warm the bench and play in the 23’s.

Bamford has had one brilliant season. Even fully fit, I suspect he won’t t have another one given his injuries and general form. Hope I’m wrong, but he’s not the future for us.

After the Villa game, Harrison was asked about the speculation with Newcastle.

He replied
“We’ll see, we’ll see what happens.”
We need to remember, he only signed a three-year contract with us, and 20 percent of the fee will go to Manchester City!

Morning all.
Bamford has never been, and never will be 'prolific', one good season, a season when just about everything clicked with the whole team taking the PL by surprise, cannot see it happening again with him.
Kalimuendo is still young, what advantage will he have over JG/SG other than he is mainly an out and out striker, he then has to fit into the whole set up.
Once again, we leave a main target to last, will we ever learn !!
Hopefully JG will get a lot more minutes every game than he was allowed under the previous managers reign, don't mind if he drops back a little with AN Other up front as target man.
Less than 3 weeks to kick off and we have no prime candidate, hopefully Bamford will deliver the goods, he should get plenty service from Sinisterra.

He was caught out and that was a jerk reaction to being asked. He was not expecting a question on that subject. There is nothing in it...

That's the crux of the matter,

18 months..... And we are still nowhere nearer making what is an imperative signing

I never get the dismissal of Bamford.

We finished 9th largely because of Phillips and Dallas in midfield, Raphinha's creativity, and Bamford's goals, which got him an international call up. And of course, Bielsa over it all.

It now seems that we have or are reaching into a lucky bag to replace all of them.

Bamford if he hasn't already will return to the powder puff version of himself now Bert has gone and will never play for England, he has also played his best football for Leeds but those days are behind him now and won't return.

I disagree. H would have heard the rumours all Summer, and would have had a better worded answer prepared if there was nothing in it.

If there was no truth in it, it's really easy to snub any rumour.

This is going to be an interesting season.

Now it is Bamford who is getting the s**t. £7M for a striker with 17 goal Prem League and OP suggests we "cut our losses.

Even when he played last season we looked 50 times better - even under Jesse.

You dont know that, he was very good when he played v Wolves ( in fact we fell apart when he went off ) and again the half he played v Norwich we were clueless without him.
