How long before the club returns to the premier league

Post by geronimo »

opinions are certainly divided , some fans think we will bounce straight back , others think we will not return until this club is put on a sound, secure financial footing once again, and have owners who are not merely interested in their own gains but have the clubs best interests at heart with obviously with the required financial investment and business sense . we have had a succession of owners over the years, but since leslie silver and bill fotherby who hired wilkinson and backed him to the hilt to a league title from the old second division, we have had a succession of shysters and charlatons running the club stretching back over thirty years .

been in the championship yet again only confirms this , that unless this club gets its act together very quickly and empty trophy cabinet is all this club can look forward to for the forseeable future . many fans believe that their is no point reaching the premier league only to fight relegation or make the numbers up every season the chance we had of progression has been blown away in two seasons, . success is long overdue and wanted but without major financial owners or investment, it will simply never happen, has bremner famously said , you get nowt for finishing second.

Difficult to say, it depends of course what ambition the club has going forward. Firstly we need to get the ownership sorted out, and then the Manager. Hopefully they will try and hold onto the players we need to keep for a promotion push, also give our best young players a chance to bed into the team, and make a few shrewd purchases in critical areas. If we are able to do this, and make some money back on players we are prepared to let go, along with the failed ones from the last two seasons, I think we have a genuine chance of challenging. This should also help us build a team that can continue to develop in the Premiership. On the other hand if we sell Willy nilly just to get as much money as possible and keep the players no one else wants, I see a long period in the Championship again.

Do you mean Willy Gnonto there ?

It all depends on what players we keep and most importantly what defenders and defensive shape we start the Championship with.

Then it's down to the manager we get and how the fck he goes about making this mish mash of players perform as a unit/team.

Sorting the wheat from the chaff.

I'm telling everybody now, this is by far not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination.

It is a complete rebuild of Bert proportions and what he did with the likes of Klich, Dallas, Cooper, KP, Bamford, Alioski and certain others.

We need a manager that can see straight through the shite he can't use and the bits of quality like Sinisterra that he can use and build a TEAM.

Until we know who will be pulling a shirt on and who is going to be handing the shirts out, we are fcked.

Like Berts first games, i'll let you know how fcked after the pre season games and the first 1,2 or 3 back in the Championship.

If he starts with certain players like Firpo and llorente etc, i will be fcking amazed and smashing my tele, but if they happen to perform well with that shite and continue to perform, my jaw will be on the floor more than Bert put my jaw on the floor.

But i'll state this now, they won't.

I think we've got long weeks months and years in front of us.

Now that's glass half empty if not empty.

Somebody let me know when it's half full wilt.
Still being proven right years on.
Radz is a businessman - and knows nowt about football.
Orta is a fraud - and knows nowt about footballers.
Bert - A footballing mastermind that they both got lucky with, end of.

We'll know when the new manager is unveiled along with the introduction of those waiting to break into the first team as regulars.

Recent seasons have been all about foreign imports at massively inflated prices and I'd be very happy to see a return to relying on home grown talent along with a British manager that has experienced English football first hand. Building for the future takes time in getting things together, but the alternative could be a Norwich like existence bouncing between the Campionship then the Premier League, until the club runs out of steam to then languish in mid table Championship obscurity or even worse.

Haha, no was not referring to Willy Gnonto, just used the wrong expression.
Hope you are wrong with the half glass assessment Kenny, but you may end up calling it right.

We are currently 2nd favourites after Leicester to get promoted. We will have to sell players, but we are in a position where we can buy one or two good players to compliment the side once those sales go through. We really are in a good position to bounce back if we sign a good manager, recruit well and promote the right youngsters, but they're things we haven't done since MB... If we fail to win promotion in the first 2/3 seasons down, then it could be a long time out.

I'll answer this question when I see what our squad looks like before our first game of the season.

1 Season

We have over 40 players, when the players that want to move on this will generate over £100 million. We then will move on the players that we do not want this will generate £20 million. So the funds are there for any areas that we need better players.

Far too many variables to have a decent punt on this.

However, if we don’t get sorted soon we could sink like a stone.

We are once more the prize scalp, home and away, so it ain’t gonna be easy, even with a clear path forward.

Statistically going up in the second season is really tough.

With so much uncertainty, it is nothing more than a guess, but I would be really surprised (though also delighted) if we went straight back up. Too much to sort out on and off the pitch in a fairly narrow window to believe we will hit the ground running. My hope is that after a shaky start, we find our feet, gel as a squad and are well set for a proper tilt in season 2.

Im not optimistic that the backline as currently constituted doesnt also give up a million in the championship. The record in cup play defensively was far from inspiring.

When we went down in 1960 it took 4 years. When we went down in 82 it was 8 years. In 2004, 16 years. So, if we follow the pattern of doubling each time, it will be 32 years! You did ask :mfpa:

Good stat. So 28 of the last 63 seasons or so we’ve not been in the top division

I'm very happy with the back line with Cresswell, Hjelde rejoining it and a lot of talent throughout the club

I also think we're on a good financial footing disagreeing with the OP, so for me it's all about the manager. Everything else is or will be in place
