Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 2nd June) Allardyce set to depart after telling Kinnear home truths

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Friday 2nd June, and hert are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Allardyce set to depart after telling Kinnear home truths

Sam Allardyce is set to leave his role as Leeds interim Manager, after crunch talks with CEO Angus Kinnear broke down yesterday. Allardyce, was strongly tipped to be installed permanently, but things turned sour after the no-nonsense 68yo told Kinnear some home truths about his squad.

According to the Daily Mail, Allardyce was shocked at the Leeds players' inability to put up a fight in the relegation battle; and wanted a complete overhaul. This didn't go down too well with the Leeds Chief Executive, and the meeting was cut short.

As savage as Allardyce's comments sound, perhaps he has a point! Everton, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth were all in far worse position than Leeds , yet defied the odds, by picking up unexpected points during the business end of the season, whilst Leeds continued to get steamrolled.

Short list of five for the ER hot seat

Luton Town Manager Rob Edwards now joins a shortlist of five for the Elland Road hot-seat. The 40 year old former Wales International recently guided the Hatters to the Premier League, via the play-offs, and has suddenly become a wanted man.

He joins fellow candidates Graham Potter, Steven Gerrard, Carlos Corboran, Brendan Rodgers and Lee Bowyer, all of whom have been strongly linked with the vacancy going back to February, when Marsch was sacked. With turmoil in the board room, fans may have to wait a while until the club are ready to unveil their next whipping boy.

Championship starts in 65 days...

There are 65 days until Leeds kick off their new Championship season, and the club are still no closer to finding out who their owners will be! The sheer gravity of the situation, will no doubt, have filtered down to the the pitch, where the players currently contemplate their futures!

The shenanigans at board room level are preventing the club from appointing a permanent Manager, let alone a retained list, transfer targets and sales. If Leeds arrive late for the party, the bargains will have disappeared, and they'll be left scrambling around for square pegs for round holes, much like what we have seen all to many times.

Elland - what is the provenance for the story regarding the SA / Kinnear meeting.
It has to have come from SA originally - I suspect he may have dug out the squad having been told a decision was made at the top to dispense with his services. He is a hall of fame must in his own household.

The new head coach / manager search would surely be the priority for the board. The fact the term weeks has been used in the timeline associated to an appointment does not bode well. I wonder if they are hoping to get a DoF in first to delegate the responsibility and any future blame if it goes south.
The suggested short list is not what could be considered inspiring. Personally out of the names muted Rodger’s is the standout.

Nothing to do with his less than inspired management over the 4 games, of course, but Allardyce has informed Kinnear of his great discovery - that the team isn’t good enough! Surprise, surprise - I think most of us fans could have told him that after the first month of the season.

I am liking the short list of Managers though, any of those would suit me but it needs to be sorted very quickly.

Rogers for me, if he’s interested.
New coaches usually want some reassurances on player recruitment and budgets etc.

The new promoted Luton Town manager isn't going to come here that's for sure. The list doesn't inspire confidence, however Rodgers would be my choice in a very narrow field.

Allardyce in stating the obvious shocker!! See ya, Sam

From that list, it has to be Rodgers for me, too, I doubt we can do much better at this point and he knows the league.

A lot of the back pages that have reported on their meet up in London yesterday, seem to indicate that Kinnear was all set to offer Allardyce the Leeds hot seat on a permanent basis, only for Allardyce to put his (Kinnear's) nose out of joint with those home truths.

Tho not many have actually said it, and fair play to him. The way Leeds were, they would have been able to fight their way out of a paper bag.

Must have come from Allardyce. Kinnear would have been too embarrassed

Allardyce said the players were unable to put up A fight, not even much of a fight. The wording is actually a lot stronger than we give it credit for.

SA's supposed strengths are getting the players up for a fight and defensive organisation. He failed at both.
I thought the answer was a porcupine but it turned out to be Old Trafford....

SA saying what we all knew. And Kinnear is even more clueless than first thought if he thought the squad was trying!

Oh, don't get me wrong, Matt, he called it exactly how it was. But a blind man on a galloping horse could have seen that. That said, I don't believe all the players are as bad as it's made out. The managerial merry-go-round, the obvious lack of coaching and fitness left them not knowing what a fecking football looks like!!!

You have to question his choice of team for the last game of the season at home with Spurs.

We're not going to be able to have a full clear out what SA wanted because there's not enough time.

We have to build on most of the players that are already here.

All very valid points.

What worries me most is that we have now wasted nearly 2 weeks since it is pretty obvious we were going down. I can see a situation where the ownership wrangle isn't sorted until the end of June. No decent manager will want to join whilst there is wobble at the top. That means we get a manager in place earlyish July ...a few weeks to get a team ready (EEEK!).

Someone said they expect the champ first season to one of consolidation, that is looking ever more likely the longer this wrangle continues.
