Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thursday 21st September) Hull survive Leeds onslaught

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Thursday 21st September, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Hull survive Leeds onslaught

Yorkshire rivals Hull City and Leeds Utd played out an entertaining goalless draw last night, and as always bragging rights were a cause for contention with Leeds playing the last 30 minutes with ten men. Not even the torrential weather conditions could dampens expectations, as buoyant fans turned up in their droves, to pack out the MKM Stadium for this midweek fixture.

Hull started the game, much the brighter, but soon found themselves on the back foot. Leeds front line of Piroe, Rutter and Gnonto caused Tigers keeper (and man of the match winner) Ryan Allsop all kinds of problems throughout the game.

Liam Rosenior's team spent large chunks of the game with ten men behind the ball, so much so, that at times the statistical heat maps around the Hull penalty area were more reminiscent of recent forest fires that swept through Europe. The best chance of the game, fell to Hull, right at the end, but just like they had done all game, were unable to muster a shot on target.

First half was never a yellow card, its was not even a foul - Farke

Leeds boss Daniel Farke was understandably frustrated with having to play the final half an hour of last nights derby with ten men, after Joe Roden was given his marching orders for two (so called) booking offences. Speaking after the game, the 46 year old remonstrated with members of the press about Roden's first booking, which, with the luxury of being able to replay the incident suggests his coming together with Jaden Philogene did not even warrant a free kick, let alone a yellow card. Farke was convinced that prior to the sending off, it was only a matter of time before Leeds took the lead, because they were 'so dominant', and the early bath changed the entire 'momentum of the game...

After this game, I'm a little bit divided here because I got the feeling 65 minutes it was not the question if we go in the lead, just when because we're so dominant after a good starting period. We didn't allow them to have to have one chance. Yes, yes. Let's be honest. So if you judge a game, that he's not allowed to finish the game feels harsh because he wasn't doing the whole game, there was two fouls and when I judge how many fouls there were just against Cree Summerville today and it's more like we have to finish an under load. It feels harsh.

First half was never a yellow card against Joe, it was not even a foul. So no one can explain me why he gets the yellow card in the situation. But you have to say if you are booked then you have to deal with smarter with the situation the second time, you have to go a bit smarter into the duel. This is what where we have to be a bit self-critical because this situation changing obviously the whole momentum of the game.

Farke elated with another clean sheet

Speaking during his post match press conference, Leeds boss Daniel Farke was elated with his teams recent defensive displays, and have now not conceded in three games. Even taking into account, their pre-season friendlies, the last time Hull failed to register on the team sheet was back in May against Luton Town.

Yes, very pleased because even during the whole 35 minutes when we were in under load. So plus added time, especially keeping in mind that it was for us a second difficult way trip within three days. Pretty pleased that we didn't allow them to have one chance, there was a situation in the 89th minute and I think we deserve definitely to return back with a clean sheet.

I think at the moment we're looking rock solid against a good football side against the side who created so many chances also in the last game, I was pretty pleased with how well structured we are at the moment, how good and committed we work against the ball. Also how good we are going forward and how many chances we create. Yes, the only thing I can criticise, but the efficiency in order to put the ball into the net.

Is Cooper ready to return to starting line up

Leeds stalwart Liam Cooper returned from injury last night, after six and a half weeks on the sidelines. He was bought on for the final 35 minutes after Roden was given his marching orders, sacrificing Piroe in the process. The skipper looked short of match fitness, and a couple of steps behind his team mates. He has been out since the season opener at Cardiff, where he turned his ankle. Given Leeds improved defensive displays in recent weeks, how likely is it, that Cooper will make his way back to the starting line up on a regular basis?

Struijk should hold his place imo with Rodon after his one game suspension. The question for the weekend is Coop or Cresswell and for me it's Charlie that should start as he's the right sided CB. And has already performed well with Pascal

I rate Coop, he's excellent in transition but he needs to wait for a Struijk loss of form or injury imo.

Neither of Rodon's challenges were yellow card worthy, the second warranting only a FK at most imo.

Morning all.
If we put just one of those many chances in we win all 3 points and deservedly so, Rutter was the biggest culprit, would have been as much a travesty of justice as brum away had hull scored at the end, thats why putting at least a couple of own chances away are important.
Rodon didn't deserve 1 booking ne'er mind 2, the ref got both wrong, and hulls shameless tactics with different players on Summerville was just that, shameless, but effective.
I really felt for Joe, excellent game throughout, conned by player and ref fell for it.

Cooper shouldn't have got his chance last night, woeful before 1 well timed tackle, infact he could well have gone off if he connected, CC will probably be away in January.

I also think Gnonto needs to sit a few out, benched at least, his body language dosen't look right to me, he ought to have been subbed a lot earlier on sunday as well, if anyone is daft enough to offer £35M, we really need to take it this time round, he aint as good as is made out.

Gray also needs a rest, for long periods last night he seemed lost, maybe thats down to tactics, but I think he's tired, no point knackering the lad, we ought to have brought Kamara on for the final 20.

I did say pre game, a point wouldn't be so bad , considering it was away and hull are unbeaten, shame we couldn't score.
Still more positives than negatives.

Willie's first tumble looked so innocuous, but the last two games he has taken a bashing and got no protection from the referee.

He has been using some white strapping below his knee, perhaps he has been carrying a knock

I hope the rough treatment he has been getting in the championship has not exacerbated some niggling injury.

Rodon's first yellow was ridiculous, the second was a clumsy challenge and not necessarily a yellow but knowing he was already on a one he should have been more careful.

Without question, we tired in the second half and it was obvious to see that Hull had had two more days recovery time than us as well as us having two away games.

I would rather have a Cresswell/ Struijk pairing at CB on Saturday but it won't be, Cooper will start.
I'd have Byram and Shackleton as FB's as well.

I wonder what will happen if EFC are in the shite come Jan and we happen to be riding high.

Let's say DF is currently scouting for players (i presume any manager is constantly on the lookout for any talent, anywhere, anytime)

So DF knowing EFC's plight demands £40m knowing they'll probably pay it... Willy looks at the tables and now decides he doesn't want to go.........DF says " Oh yes you fcking will, i want the £40m ya scriking numpty "

What happens ?

Cooper was lucky to stay on the field. After his early comic tumble his next effort was to try a rugby tackle near the half way line. If had had completed his grab (ie the hull player was too quick for him so he was left grabbing fresh air) he would have walked, the mood that ref was in. His good tackle at the end saved face.

I agree with both points Mental makes. Gnonto needs to sit out a few, and Archie looked very tired, fresh legs were needed early. I don’t know Gruev, but Kamara could work there.

We don't wanna be relying on cooper because it's a recipe for disaster, he will be either sent off , injured or drop Clanger's left right and centre most weeks
We have two players in cooper and ayling in defence who will be constant liabilities every week if they continue to be selected

I'm happy but not satisfied with the point.

Rodon's first yellow was a joke. The 2nd yellow was questionable. The sending off thus being unjust. He looked gutted!

For me the depth chart at CB is set. Rodon/Cresswell at RCB. Struijk/Cooper at LCB.

I did not like DF's choice to bring Cooper on last night. I thought Cresswell was the obvious choice.

The differing standard of refereeing between the hull & millwall game was atrocious, not in terms of decisions but what is a foul and what is not. millwall was a throw back to the 70's... Was the referee informed to let things go because of the status of the game down at the den, but then how do the players know what's ok and not ok. Roden would not have been booked last Sunday at all.
