Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Monday 4th November) - Whites outclass sorry Pilgrims

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Monday 4th November, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Whites outclass sorry Pilgrims

Leeds moved up to second in the table with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Wayne Rooney's Plymouth Argyle at the weekend. It took 30 minutes to breach the visitor's ten man defence, but once penetrated, the visitors started to crumble. Dan James's spectacular strike from the edge of the area got Leeds off the mark after Argyle failed to clear Rothwell's corner.

Piroe doubled the score-line just three minutes later, stabbing home from close range after the ball fell kindly for him in the six yard box. This was no more than Leeds deserved, having dominated play from the opening whistle. Wave after wave of attacks, had finally taken it's toll on Daniel Grimshaw's goalmouth, and Leeds would take full advantage!

Chants of 'You're getting sacked in the morning' reverberated around Elland Road after Brenden Arronson got in on the act on 38 minutes. Piroe's back-heel deflected off a defender into Arronson's path, handing him his fourth of the season.

With a midweek game in Bermondsey coming up, Farke's men took their foot off the gas and coasted for the final 50 minutes. Sam Chambers, Joshua Guilavogui and Charlie Crew got a rare run-out, safe in the knowledge that the game was well and truly won.

Even after taking into account these changes, Plymouth were unable to muster a single shot at goal, either on target or off. Millwall will be a sterner test on Wednesday night. They outmuscled Burnley at the weekend, and were good value for their 1-0 win.

Brooks to fill Rutter void

Leeds may be looking to lure David Brooks to Elland Road in the New Year to fill the void left by Georginio Rutter in the latter stages of the Summer transfer window!

Brookes caught the eye whilst on-loan during the second half of last season with Southampton, showcasing his ability to unlock defences, and move defenders out of position. The 27yo offers versatility, and can play as an attacking midfielder or on the wings, which aligns well with the role Rutter played.

His ability to operate in the half-spaces and use his creativity could be exactly what Leeds need in the New Year. He's only had 30 minutes of Premier League game time all season, suggesting that the Cherries may be open to letting the former Manchester City and Sheffield Utd apprentice out on loan again.

Elland Road would seem the logical destination for Brookes given his skill-set, and is already familiar with Karl Darlow, Dan James, Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon given their Welsh National status, not to mention former team-mate Joe Rothwell.

Kristensen proving his worth in the Bundesliga

Rasmus Kristensen has been described as reliable and a positive influence in the Eintracht Frankfurt dressing room by respected journalist Ben Jacobs! Danish International defender Kristensen is loving life at the Stadium Deutsche Bank Park. Although out injured (knock) at the moment, the 27yo has already gained over 900 minutes of game time, and has scored (and provided an assist) in Europe. He has a solid 6.73 Whoscored rating, placing him 8th (three places above Robin Koch) in their rankings. Leeds are asking £12.6m, though Frankfurt will no doubt want to negotiate. Much will depend on whether Leeds go up! According to Jacobs...

Rasmus Kristensen has impressed Frankfurt both on and off the field and it’s a shame he’s picked up a muscle injury and will miss a few weeks. Kristensen has proven reliable, and Frankfurt also view him as a positive dressing-room influence. There is a chance they try to sign him permanently, but it’s likely if so they try to negotiate the €15m option to buy. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. If Leeds don’t go up, Frankfurt might be able to do a bargain deal but it’s too early to tell right now.

Pretty one sided affair against Plymouth Argyle. They were set up in a bizarre and bonkers to try and keep leeds at bay and hope top smuggle a point out of Elland Road. It turned up to be a walk in the park for us and no real test. Milwall away will be something else and I expect a very tough game

David Brookes would be a smart addition on loan for us - a move I imagine would suit the player too. It would give us good options in midfield

If Rasmus is doing well in Germany it's good news all round. He can stay there, be gone and get us a decent fee. I think he is ill suited to English football and, even if Daniel Farke wanted to play him as an attacking wing back who can't defend (as he seems to like to do :) ) he'd be surplus to requirements for us. Rather than warming the bench that place would be better offered up to a youngster coming through.

Saturday was one of the easiest games we are ever likely to have, Plymouth offered absolutely nothing.
Wednesday will be a much sterner test and a point down there wouldn't be a disaster.
The biggest question for me on Saturday was why Isaac Schmidt didn't get a run out when two of the youngsters did.

Well, Byram and Firpo are out of contract, not sure Byram is prem quality and Firpo may want to head back to Spain. Schmidt seems to be being forgotten about.

Rasmus did have good games for us in the prem, while being ruined by Marsch. A number of ex players finding their form since Marsch. Rasmus should be a good back up for us in the prem, knows the club and the division and he'd have power to add.

Byram is only on a short term contract..should his body hold up I'd bu surprised if there wasn't an extension available. Whether he is prem quality is a different question

Firpo - If Farke thinks there is enough quality there, he is likely to be talking about a new contract now with a view to signing before Jan transfer window.

Marsch - he was an anti-coach who made our players worse. Rasmus included, it will be interesting who comes sniffing for a place back in the team if we hit the prem again (Rasmus, Harrison) and what players we suddenly get linked with.

Morning all.
One of the easiest games we'll have all season, I thought watford were very poor and we ought to have had more, also sheffield utd, a top team but we dominated it, but saturday, plymouth were by far the worst so far, only thing missing again for me was not wallopping a team when we ought to have done.
No real complaints as a 3-0 win is not to be sniffed at, but I would like us to hammer teams whilst we have the chance, and we created many chances again and again.
I don't know why rooney dosen't pack it all in , he was a great player, but he's a dreadful manager, doe's he need money to pay for his wifes court cases !! if not, pack it in wayne, your'e embarrassing yourself son, too many great players have failed in their quest to become managers, he's like an old washed up boxer who just can't quit (tyson fury)
Lets hope we continue our recent run of form and get something from millwall wednesday, they will be a much tougher opposition than sorry plymouth for sure.

Jesse Marsch's signings actually turned out to be pretty good, and if it wasn't for Leeds Utd incompetence regarding contracts, they could have been even better....

Brenden Aaronson.
Luis Sinisterra.
Tyler Adams.
Rasmus Kristensen.
Marc Roca.
Joel Robles.
Darko Gyabi.
Sonny Perkins.
Wilfried Gnonto.
Georginio Rutter

All about opinions.

Rasmus is not Premiership quality IMHO.

Whilst he might have had the odd decent game for us in the Premiership. Bombed in Italy on loan too. Perhaps he's found his level in German football.

With us, he was also prone to get caught out time and again and, to me, looked mostly out of his depth. We need to move on

All prem quality, as were Bielsa’s. The period under Marsch though was a disaster for most of them. Confidence knocked badly.

Germany is a superior league to Italy. ATM

Bottom 4 of those were Orta for the most part

In fact the much derided loan clauses were one of the main reasons why Leeds were able to avoid significant financial issues because they were able to ship high earners off the wage bill which had been a huge issue at the time of the previous relegation . It can be hard to know which of the buys during that period were specifically Marsch buys as Aaronson had by all accounts been on the radar during the Bielsa era. One would assume that the Red Bull / american players were strongly pushed by Marsch but other than that many of them were Orta picks. I think that both Aaronson and Wober will turn out to be useful players this season and will probably do a job back in the Premiership if properly coached. I think part of the reason that Crew and Chambers got on against Plymouth was that there will be less places on the subs bench going forward as players come back and it might be a while again before the opportunity arises to give them a debut in such circumstances . Schmitt is pretty much guaranteed a place on the bench so he will get opportunities .

You say that, but compare Bielsa's signings:

Bielsa's players

Helder Costa
Illan Meslier
Jack Harrison
Patrick Bamford
JKA
Ian Poveda
Kiko Casilla
Joffy, McCarron and Bogusz
Kristoffer Klaesson
Barry Douglas
Robin Koch
Rodrigo
Raphinha
Dan James
Junior Firpo
Diego Llorente (Was Orta's signature)

Not that great.

Aaronson proving to be a good championship player
Sinisterra and Adams usually on the bench for Bournemouth
Rasums hard to say if he'll be good enough for the premier laegue
Roca didn't look suited to the pace of the PL
Gyabi - playing for a bottom championship team
Perkins - a series of failed loans

Gnonto and Rutter both good, but were Orta future projects rather than Marsch first team signings

In short, Marsch was tasked with keeping us in the PL. The players he signed were not ready for the PL. We got greatly exposed and a few were deer in the headlights.

Key phrase, it often takes a season for players coming from abroad to settle.. often but not always. They're usually much better second and third seasons.. Bit like rookies coming into the NFL

More than a season with those Marsch signings. It's 27 months since the start of that season.

Sinsisterra and Adams are squad players at Bournemouth
Aarsonson probably not ready for PL yet
Kristensen and Roca - debatable
Gyabi may get there in another 2 years
Perkins career has totally stalled

Gnonto and Rutter are PL quality. But those were Orta projects rather than Jesse signings
