Match Thread Leeds Utd v Queens Park Rangers Match Thread

Post by Ellandback1 »

Leeds Utd v Queens Park Rangers
Saturday 9th November 3:00pm | Elland Road

Leeds will be looking to reclaim a top-two Championship spot ahead of the International break, with of the arrival of Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

Leeds are sixteen points and twenty places clear of Queens Park Rangers, though we must remember that forty points separated the two sides on the penultimate day of last season when Martí Cifuentes side destroyed any hopes of automatic promotion for the Whites.

You have to go back eleven years for the last time QPR won at Elland Road, with Clint Hill tapping in from Joey Barton's assist, back in August 2013. Leeds have beaten the R's on their last four previous games at Elland Road.

The Whites will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday's fiasco, but have less than 72 hours to prepare. Sam Byram is pushing for a recall after a poor performance from Jaiden Bogle midweek. Similarly, Wilfred Gnonto's place could be at risk by a fit again Manor Solomon.

Leeds have no new injury concerns. Largie Ramazani, Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu are all long term casualties whilst Joe Gelhardt is still carrying a knock. Daniel Farke must choose between Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph to lead the line. It was announced on Saturday morning that Junior Firpo has been handed a three game ban following an off the ball incident against Millwall. He will likely be replaced by Sam Byram at left back.

The visitors have an extensive injury list heading into Saturday's trip, as defenders Kenneth Paal, Jake Clarke-Salter, Morgan Fox and Harrison Ashby are set to remain sidelined alongside midfielder Jack Colback and attackers Karamoko Dembele and Michael Frey.

In the absence of Frey and Dembele, Zan Celar should again lead the line, likely with support from Ilias Chair and Koki Saito.

Bogle and Gnonto

I can't see any changes unless forced. Just because that's what Farke does

Unless fitness dictates it will be the same starting 11 as Weds.

Piroe being scapegoated.

Thats pretty much my angle on it Ian, although Piroe appears to be better at home.

Yup, I stick Bogle and Gnonto on the bench. I reckon Gnonto could do with a breather...

No he's not Ian, if he doesn't score, we get minimal impact from him.

Farke was critical of Aaronson shot vs Millwall, he never mentioned the similar powder-puff effort from his favourite, Piroe.

Joseph should have started against Millwall to give their CBs something to think about!

Piroe will be more suited to QPR & will start today.

Totally ineffective away from ER when he starts a game, especially against a bunch of brutes, strange as Piroe is a big man himself with no physical presence whatsoever!

Just what we need.

I wonder what would have happened if it happened to a Leeds player?

The dramatic arc of Bogle's career will follow that of Firpo. He will go from abused and scorned, to a shining light extolled by all.

He is already worth the price we paid for him, from the fact that he can induce so many facial contortions in Chris Wilder, ranging from a bulldog chewing a wasp, to the flare of the nostrils after having caught a whiff of the excrement in his own pants after being beat by Leeds 2-0

Piroe and James dropped, assume that's so Gnonto can play right. Interestingly Bogle named in the LWB spot, wonder if he'll start there

I'm glad Mateo is starting, it means I don't have to change my first scorer selection for once. :roflmao:

That and the fact that he needs a run of games now to get his confidence back. We'll need him to be on fire later in the season, and Piroe is ripping up no trees.

Joseph starting in this one? Made sense to start him in the Millwall match, but I think QPR will play against us and this is where Piroe would succeed. I’m on record here for not being a Piroe a fan, but given Farke’s recent fondness for Piroe, he’s not doing him any favors with which teams he starts him against :duno:
