Rodon
Struijk
Tanaka
Firpo
Gnonto
Bogle

I didn't think Tanaka was bad, just not on it as he has been lately.

I'd happily have stopped at one pick.

Just as a matter of interest, and most of the players had average games. Why does Firpo always seem to get in the top 6. What did he do today comparatively to others. He was generally safe in possession, tick. However, he didn’t deliver a decent cross that I can recall and I would say a very high percentage of his passes in possession were sideways and backwards.

I also suspect he probably had fewer touches of the ball than any of our players. Is he a default in the ratings ?

BA lost the ball in possession quite a lot but at least he did try and drive us forward. He was guilty of having too many touches on occasion, but with the exception of Willy he was probably one of our most creative players for me.

He was a 6/10 of 10 in my match rating which put him in the top 6. We were poor. Gnonto was the only one I thought played well (and missed too many chances). So Firpo gets in my top 6 for being one of the least poor of a poor bunch.

Meslier was 2nd man of the match for the simple reason that he didn't do anything wrong (yes, slim pickings today)

I am not in the camp of judging a player’s rating dependent on not making any mistakes or making few mistakes. I prefer a player who is brave in possession, even if he does make a mistake. As a team you do not progress without players who can make something happen, particular when the game is difficult. Willy is one such player, he missed a few good opportunities today, but ask yourself why is he the one who always seems to get the chances. Quite simply because he is quality and reads the game.

Then please post them. I'll be happy to tell you you're wrong after you do :)

I would struggle today - Willy was the standout by far. Then Pascal and perhaps Rodon, because he does try and drive us forward. Everyone else was much of a muchness.

Just a thought

Maybe we should refrain from negatively commenting on others match ratings. MOTM and Player Ratings don't get a great deal of participation. Sometimes only a handful participate. I wish we got way more people participating on these threads. Let's not discourage others from posting their personal ratings.

To me that type of judgement is anti football.

I am expressing my opinion and asking a question. How is that negative ?

The baseline here is that choices are posted in order and without comment, and a placing made based on the totals.

Opinions on other's choices can be made elsewhere, this isn't the place. As suggested, it might put posters off taking part if they thought they had to granularly defend their selections.

By the way, you're wrong about Gnonto. :)

I prefer Sam, even though Byram is playing out of position.

Even though Struijk was caught napping in the build-up for their penalty & also missed a golden opportunity to equalise. Pascal wasn't the only one whose efforts were shot straight at their keeper. Feeble finishing cost us today.

I think debate is the whole purpose of a forum. But maybe we can post on the Junior Firpo thread if we want to discuss the merits of his performance. On this thread, it comes across as judging other people's selections rather than judging Junior Firpo's performance.

Still haven't seen your top six
