Derby pre match chat.
Next fixture is a match vs formerly Frank Lampard's/Wayne Rooney's Derby County.
The manager now may not have the illustrious playing career of his 2 predecessors, but he is simply a better manager.
Paul Warne is a 4 time League 1 promotion winner, 3 with Rotherham and last season with Derby (as well as an EFL Trophy winner with Rotherham).
Does also mean he has been relegated from the Championship 3 times as well.
They aren't a side who put too much value in possession, until today in the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday they had the 2nd lowest in the league.
A functional side I suppose you'd say, prefer to be defensively solid and hit on the break but willing to get stuck in.
Top 10 in the league in terms of pressing success, top 2 for successful tackles, top for interceptions, top 4 for crosses and top 6 for long balls.
A side that knows its limitations as a newly promoted side and Paul Warne has been quite open about it.
But so far it's doing enough, 15th currently and a points per game total of just over 50 in a season will typically see you safe.
Pretty much mid table for goals conceded and scored.
But like most newly promoted teams the majority of points come at home, only 1 win in 9 away from home and only 6 points.
In terms of eye catching results a win vs Boro and a draw vs Millwall in Millwall.
They've ran Sheffield United and Sunderland close only losing by 1 goal.
But realistically a team chasing for automatic promotion should be beating a newly promoted side really at home.
In terms of key players.
Academy graduate cb Eiran Cashin is one, the talented 23 year old made his debut as a teenager in the Championship relegation season but has gone on to establish himself as one of the most talented young cbs in the EFL, attracting the interest of Premier League Brighton.
Striker Jerry Yates has 4 goals and 2 assists, a pacey and hard working striker he is comfortable with his back to goal or running the channels and is a reliable source of goals and assists.
And finally Captain Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has carried on his impressive form of last season where he got 9 goals and 16 assists with 2 goals and 3 assists so far this season.
He ranks very high in terms of chances created and various other attacking stats.
For ourselves we obviously need to bounce back and get back to two points per game.
Is Patrick Bamford in line for a start given his surprise relatively early introduction on Saturday?
Will we see a return to the starting lineup for Solomon or Ramazani?
Is it time to give one of Rothwell or Tanaka a rest and see how much Guilavogui has in his tank?

Re: Derby pre match chat.
Have been speaking to ST holders of other Championship teams and they all agree these early KO are ruining the match day experience so quite a few are thinking of jacking it in.
Of course they will still go but just not every game.
Honestly I'm fuming about it as the EFL board agreed everything with Sky without any fan consultation whatsoever.

We'll meet up about 11.50am, mate.

Re: Derby pre match chat.
If we have to have 12:30 KO's, I'm happier with it being after a week's rest. It does give us a couple of extra hours advantage on a new week of 3 games. And it's at home. It really should not affect us.
Sympathies to anyone attending that has to get up extra early. Ridiculous hour for me too. 4:30 a.m. At least I quit drinking. I used to do those still half drunk on 2 hours sleep. Not such a problem now.

Derby with a rather poor loss today. At home to the Wendies.

Clean slate this week so I'm not sure how he'll go.
Back 4 and midfield seem obvious. Certain he'll play Aaronson. But the wings and the striker are anyone's guess.
I wonder if he'll think about the 3 games together or if he'll just play what he considers his strongest 11 on Saturday and go from there

Many don’t understand how the day is not just about the game, but about having a couple of pints with mates, a bite to eat and a good chat with Mr 64 before the game.Jammy 07 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:29 pm Have been speaking to ST holders of other Championship teams and they all agree these early KO are ruining the match day experience so quite a few are thinking of jacking it in.

That’s all taken away with the 12.30 KO

I don't recall any noon kick offs when I was going to games (27 years ago). But I do remember plenty of 10:30 a.m. starts at Headingley. And the beers started before we got there.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 9:11 pm Many don’t understand how the day is not just about the game, but about having a couple of pints with mates, a bite to eat and a good chat with Mr 64 before the game.

Yeah, we meet at 9.30am (for lunchtime KO’s) but it’s not the same somehow.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 9:20 pm I don't recall any noon kick offs when I was going to games (27 years ago). Re: Derby pre match chat.
In fairness, I just enjoyed any reason to drink. That early KO would have killed me. Like you, I'd start at 9:30. But I wouldn't finish until the pubs closed. Hence the reason I don't any more.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 9:23 pm Yeah, we meet at 9.30am (for lunchtime KO’s) but it’s not the same somehow.
Hope you enjoy your beer brunch regardless and hopefully our home performance will enhance the occasion.
Re: Derby pre match chat.
No I don't think Farke would, defensively we'd be better & Wober does get forward, as he did in the short time on the pitch against Luton.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:50 pm You really think he'll play Wober over Fipro? Or is that just a personal hope?
