The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 3rd December) - Do Leeds need reinforcements?
Good Morning. It's Tuesday 3rd December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Do Leeds need reinforcements?
With less than a month until the Winter transfer window opens, Whites supporters have been throwing names around social media like confetti at a wedding. James McAtee, James Brooks, Ben Brereton Díaz, Kelvin Phillips, Sergio Reguilon, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Ben Chilwell, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Miguel Almiron, Joe Gomez, Maxwel Cornet and Emi Buendia provide a tantalising range of players believed to be available for loan, come the New Year, many of whom are on the wish lists of expectant fans.
Unlike the rest of the Championship, the Whites seem reluctant to take advantage of the loan system. Joe Rothwell and Manor Solomon are currently the only players Leeds have bought in on a temporary basis, but after recent loses at Millwall and Blackburn, things could be about to change!
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has suggested that the 49ers could provide Daniel Farke with a sufficient war chest to provide the 'shot in the arm' that is needed to boost Leeds automatic promotion hopes. Failing to strengthen last January severely damaged Leeds plans for a top two finish, especially when both Southampton and Ipswich took full advantage. Traditionally, Leeds are not a club who learn by their mistakes, but surely we will see 2 or 3 incoming players!
Away form is cause for concern
The Whites (along with Sheffield Utd), top the Championship form guide for games won at home. In their last six matches at Elland Road, Leeds have picked up maximum points, scoring fifteen times, and incredibly only conceding once!
Away from home, it's a very different story. Three draws, two defeats and an unconvincing win (at Swansea) have seen Daniel Farke's side accumulate just six from a possible eighteen points on the road, placing them 11th in the form guide!
Leeds currently have 35 points on the board, the very same that they had at this very point last season, and finished their campaign six points short of second place. It remains to be seen whether 89 points would be enough for automatic promotion this season, it was in 21/22, 19/20 and 18/19.

Morning all.
Even harrogate town have just signed a new striker, Admiral Muskwe a former luton player, I think it would be pretty daft if we didn't get a decent loan or two in but who ?!!

There are so many considerations to make if you enter the loan market.
In the English Championship, clubs can have up to five loan players in a matchday squad, with no specific age restrictions on loanees... and with Rothwell and Solomon already in the squad, that would only leave space for three loan players... and who would they replace on the team?
Loans are often used to acquire younger players seeking regular first-team football or seasoned professionals for short-term impact... like Kieffer Moore at Ipswich.
While older, experienced players may provide immediate results and leadership, their wages may be prohibitive... younger players can offer energy, long-term potential, and lower wage demands, and we all know that Farke seems to prefer experience over youth.
The decision depends on a team’s needs, balancing experience with development opportunities... Jaydon Anthony was on loan last year but apparently he didn't do enough to convert that loan into a permanent deal.
It is easy to say we need loan players, but finding the right pieces to fit the jigsaw puzzle is surely a headache for any manager.

We need a creative attacking player to replace the lost Rutter. So far it's Aaronson filling that role and whilst he's doing ok if we really want to push for promotion then we need someone better with Aaronson then covering a number of roles from the bench.
Christian Erikson leaps out to me as the type of player we should be looking at for a short term loan.

I think we need an option for Aaronson, he’s tireless and harries the opposition no end but he seems then to struggle to convert that restless energy to calmness on the ball, he has had his moments and I’m not one of those who underestimate his contribution but we could do with a calm head in there vs the poorer teams who can see a pass and make things happen - I’d look for an experienced head, someone like our Pablo who could make an immediate impact.

Will we use them if we get them?

No we do not need reinforcements. We would benefit from the presence of a front man with prolific scoring ability. We have 3 goalkeepers,4 full backs,3 centre backs, 4 central midfielders,4 wingers and 5 frontmen. We have versatility in that squad as well as untried youngsters with potential. Numbers look fine we just do not convert our possession and pressure into goals.

Considering the importance that this season is our best chance of promotion with rival sides far weaker than last year. With this our rivals will look to strengthen in January and we are not exactly lighting up the division with our strike force.... We need that killer instinct striker that all championship promoted sides have.

Magic creative can opener to unlock water tight defensive set ups. If that person is out there we should get them. If not we have enough.Musicman1965 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 10:16 am Considering the importance that this season is our best chance of promotion with rival sides far weaker than last year. This coupled with adaptation of tactics which is farkes responsibility.

We don't know who we need, basically anyone that Burnley or Sheffield get... they always do better than us in our imaginations.

I can’t see us getting any of those players mentioned in the above piece.mentalcase wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 9:31 am Morning all.

I can only see a like for like replacement. Joffy out on loan, we will look to replace him with a 10. Depends what is available. I do not see the point of getting someone in for the sake of it
I doubt we will get a 9 unless PB leaves or there is an unbelievable option that is too hard to ignore. Similarly at LB
If Amps is back, which looks likely, we have a very very strong bench and deep squad, IMO.
Getting Joseph back in the groove and Willy converting more often would be the biggest plus points for me.

I know people will disagree with me, but I don't think Gnonto is having much of an impact. He works hard, and gets involved but doesn't make much of a difference. Rarely see him beat a player.
Just my opinion, I'd love to see McAtee and Brooks signed.

Agree with that staement, not the world beater some suggested, still a very good squad player to rotate along with James, Rammazani and SolomanEllandback1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 12:53 pm I know people will disagree with me, but I don't think Gnonto is having much of an impact. He does quite regularly for me. The problem with a low block is if you beat the initial opponent there is generally a second defender in close attention particularly in and around the 18 yard box.Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 12:53 pm I know people will disagree with me, but I don't think Gnonto is having much of an impact. Teams have worked out that if you deny space to our attacking players we struggle. If the game is open we will come out on top 9 times out of 10.
The problem facing a low block with our squad is without the early goal to make the opponent actually commit men forward a few players tend to overplay in possession as the game progresses. BA can be guilty of this. We go on a run, which is distinctly possible, the confidence builds, the anxiety dissipates and snapped shots on goal become more considered and clinical.
A run on wins is what we need IMO. At the moment just as we start to get into the groove it is derailed by a contextually bad result.
