Good Morning. It's Thursday 5th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Leeds make official approach for Israeli ace
Leeds have made an official approach to sign £4m rated striker Dor Turgeman in the January transfer window according to multiple reports in the Press. Turgeman, 21, an International team-mate of Manor Solomon, applies his trade with eleven time Champions Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Ligat Ha'al league. He has netted five goals in eight league appearances, and four in the Europa League.
Standing 6' 1, he possesses fantastic close control for someone of his size, and the upper body strength to shrug off challenges. He's good with both feet, and strong in the air. Whilst undoubtedly great potential, many will worry that it will take him time to get used to the pace and physicality of the Championship.
Farke's talk of really quiet window possible ruse
Talk of 'a really, really quiet January' may be Daniel Farke's way of deviating the attention away from the club, as the recruitment team go about their business under the radar!
Since taking over West Yorkshire's finest almost 17 months ago, the 49ers have distanced themselves from the press, keeping total anonymity as far as transfers rumours are concerned. Whilst Leeds have arguably the strongest squad in the Championship, we all witnessed what happened during the business end of last season when the players ran out of steam, winning just four of their last eleven games.
Failing in their duties to add new recruits in January cost Leeds promotion last season - surely they are not going to make the same mistake again? The last thing the club will want is to pay through the nose for new talent, but with a reported £300m on the line, can Leeds afford not to invest next month? According to Farke in his pre-match presser last week:-
Not much is ongoing as I also expect a pretty quiet January. Of course, we have to stay awake in case there is a big injury like we had for example with Ethan and Ilia, we had to react a bit spontaneous so for that, behind-the-scenes our recruitment and scouts are more or less looking at every position.
You never know if there is going to be a big injury or something like this. If nothing happens, I expect a really, really quiet January because overdoing some things can also bring a group who is tight together and on a good path, without meaning it, to a situation where they lose their togetherness or spirit.
At the moment, if they deliver like this they deserve to be on the spotlight and we don’t need seven more additions. But again, we will stay awake but at the moment there is no need to hurry anything.
Sometimes if you overdo too many more incomings just because we are an attractive club, you can also harm your own success. For that, I want a pretty quiet January in case nothing major happens, but we are also prepared until we have to react.
