Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thursday 12th December) Pope hints at January exit for Bamford

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Thursday 12th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Pope hints at January exit for Bamford

BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope has raised further question marks about Patrick Bamford's future at Elland Road following the Whites 3-1 win over Boro midweek. Bamford 31, has only played 77 minutes of league game time all season, despite staying reasonably fit this season. Lack of pace, movement and consistency have restricted him to the odd cameo role; but with a 'Whoscored' rating of just 6.06 (22nd), surely his squad place is now at risk!

After once again being left on the bench, Bamford cannot be content, especially for such an important game. He has 18 months left on his contract, but with exorbitant wages of £70,000 a week (according to spotrac.com), moving him on, especially when he still has eighteen months on his contract will not be easy!

Leeds have a habit of keeping players beyond their shelf-life, with Cooper, Ayling and Klich being good examples, albeit faithful servants who had seen better days. Farke must be ruthless in his decision making. If a deal can be done with Bamford, he will need a replacement. According to Popey...

To not pick him [Bamford] ahead of Joseph for a big game tonight – he’s the one who didn’t perform against Boro when he did get his first start and only start this season earlier on in the campaign – that sort of says something, doesn’t it, of where Farke sees Bamford maybe. He can’t cast him out, he’s not going to admit that, is he? But, is there something happening with Patrick Bamford in January, you wonder.

Wilder hits back at Keys following parachute payment comments

Sheffield United Manager Chris Wilder has hit back at Richard Keys following his comments suggesting a direct correlation between parachute payments and the promotion race in the Championship. Keys believes parachute payments not only "distort competition" but also reinforce a hierarchy within the league that seems to favour clubs with more substantial financial resources. This perception adds weight to the criticisms surrounding the integrity of the promotion race, especially as it appears to favour teams with recent top-flight experience. Speaking to the Star, Wilder has come out swinging, accusing Keys of lazy journalism, adding...

Absolute nonsense. It's just a lazy, lazy assumption. Listen, we have a competitive wage bill. The work we did in the summer was small fees, frees and loans and we brought some decent figures in as well. It's always a cheap shot that people can use, if you do a bit of digging you'll see.

We've got some good players and kept some decent players, there's no doubt about that. And the owner and the board backed us getting those players in. But you just have to take that with a pinch of salt and crack on. I'm just interested in the group at the moment and how well they're doing. It doesn't distort it.

Look at that West Brom team; there are some boys still there that we couldn't touch a few years ago. The [John] Swifts and the [Jed] Wallaces and Mikey Johnston, and other players that we went after. I'm not going to get into all that, but it's a lazy assumption.

Morning all
Maybe there is some mileage in what I heard about bamford going to wrexham, he could do a good job there, 2nd in L1, hoping for automatic, his experience ought to help those around him in that league as it clearly isn't in this.
Never liked him, but don't wish him any malice, just should have got shot at least 2 seasons ago.
Maybe we replace him with Solomons team-mate from Isreal !!
The Piroe / Joseph conundrun will continue to run on as there are shouts for both causes, but Joseph really needs to kick on sharpish.

Is it Wrexham who have the Hollywood backers, MC? If so, then maybe they could afford his wages (or the bulk of them if he went initially on loan)? Never been a Paddy knocker, but I think Marcelo did break him to a degree and he can't stay fit so needs to be moved on.

Yea thats the ones, Gosling and ??
Just what I thought about the wages thing, would be great to free him from our wage bill.

Patrick Bamford’s current situation at Leeds United bears a striking resemblance to Boxer, the loyal and hardworking horse in George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

Boxer dedicated his life to serving the farm, embodying the ideals of strength and commitment, much like Bamford has been a key player for Leeds, contributing significantly during their promotion to the Premier League.

Both figures, in their respective contexts, became symbols of perseverance, with Boxer tirelessly pushing himself despite injuries and exhaustion, and Bamford battling through setbacks and injuries.

However, just as Boxer’s usefulness waned with age and physical decline, Bamford’s form and fitness have faltered, leaving Leeds seemingly willing to part ways with the player who once embodied their fighting spirit... and who got hugs from Bielsa.

The parallel deepens in the callousness of their treatment. In Animal Farm, Boxer’s fate is sealed when the pigs, who once relied on him to sustain the farm, sell him off to the glue factory for profit, betraying his loyalty. Will Wrexham be Bamford's glue factory?

Similarly, Leeds appears ready to offload Bamford as they transition into a new era, and possible promotion to the Premiership, disregarding the years of service and loyalty he has given to the club.

Both scenarios illustrate the harsh realities of communist and capitalist systems, be it Orwell's allegorical farm or modern football, where individuals are valued only for their utility, and when their prime has passed, they are discarded without sentiment.

I'd still be tempted to start Bamford.

We'd get a lot more out of Paddy than Joseph, who didn't get any joy against those Boro' CBs.

Farke rates Bamford, and I disagree we kept Klich and Ayling too long. Cooper maybe.

How do you work that one out !!
Joseph has far more strength than bamford against tough CB's, bamford would just be brushed aside like the powderpuff weakling he's become.
Joseph will only gain experience through minutes on the pitch, a lesson we ought to learn from under using Joffy imho.

I think Bielsa broke both Bamford and Klich with Bielsa ball

I remember the exact time that Farke lost trust with Ayling. It was during the Leicester game. Ayling had been on for 30 seconds, when one of the Leicester forwards jumped above Ayling (who didn't even react), and Meslier made that World class safe clawing the ball out of what looked to be a certain goal.

From that moment on Ayling barely kicked a ball for us. Yes, he had his purple patch when first joining Boro, but didn't last.

Bielsa working hard with Cooper, really improved his positional play, ability to read the ball, and make him difficult to beat. I think he went at the right time.

Around New year during the 20/21 season, Klich was suffering from burn-out, he admitted as such during an interview. When he came back, he had lost all his anaerobic attributes, short sprints, change of pace etc. https://motforum.com/article.php?page=41256

There wasn't much strength from him on Tuesday night, held the ball up once, didn't jump to compete with their CBs four times & lost possession three times.

Only time will tell how he develops, he's certainly not showing the promise that everybody on here was raving about from March onwards. Two goals & three assists up to the 18th October, nothing in our last ten games, this season.

Monday I'm Daniel Farke is an anagram of Die Animal Farm Donkey.

What does it mean? I think that it is clear that, by Monday, Farke will be off loading Bamford who is no longer a thoroughbred horse, ala Boxer, but a useless donkey.

Best time to offload really, there is a big call for donkeys in the nativity season.
