Storm Eowyn
First time ever that the whole of Ireland has had a red weather warning, and Scotland to be badly affected as well. Winds of up to 100mph forecast and loss of life expected. Was in the pub earlier & everyone’s phones were going off with the government emergency alarm. Stay safe everyone

Re: Storm Eowyn
That red alert alarm had me scrambling around the house looking for the source, it’s a real screamer.
Been kept awake pretty much all night with the wind. I’m six miles from the west coast and when I put my head out of the door I could taste salt in the air from the sea.
Keeping my head down today, stay safe everyone.

The news this morning said Galway has recorded a gust of 114mph.

Don't you find it strange the government can tap into your phone and send you warning messages... wonder if they are also listening in?Orange Box wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 6:56 am That red alert alarm had me scrambling around the house looking for the source, it’s a real screamer.

It's brutal out there. I'm at my parents' house (Antrim for the locals amongst us) and their fence has already succumbed. Summer seat is upside down in the middle of their garden (it's a big, not unsubstantial iron thing) and I can see a neighbour has lost some roof tiles. My dog performed the quickest ablutions in the history of pet owning at 6.30 this morning! Stay safe if you're in Eowyn's range.

There was one black politician in America who protested that hurricanes were all given anglo-saxon names and she wanted afro-american names to be given an equal opportunity, like Lawanda and Tayvon.
As a tip of the hat to the muslim community storms should perhaps be called Fatima or Omar.
Why should storms that are destructive aways be given anglo-saxon names... it just reinforces racial prejudices and makes Caucasian races responsible for all the havoc caused by storms.
When are we going to have a storm Jock to insult all Scotsmen?
Re: Storm Eowyn
I came home to change after a funeral yesterday & mine went off, scared the bejesus out of me. Went to the pub and everyone else’s were going at random times, my mates went off 3 times, how do the government have access to every phone in the country ??

We have a large glass garden table with a glass top, too big for us to move last night so put a double extension wooden ladder, 3 big 2ft x 2ft paving slabs & a bag of cement on top, blew the whole thing over & found the glass 12ft away in one piece.lufc1304 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 8:38 am It's brutal out there. In July 2003, Texas representative Sheila Jackson Lee (a member of the NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus, and an ardent supporter of the civil rights leadership) criticized the weather establishment for their selection of names with which to christen hurricanes, stating that "All racial groups should be represented." Rep. Lee added that she hoped in the future storm lists “would try to be inclusive of African American names” such as “Keisha, Jamal and Deshawn.”
As a protest rednecks from the deep south wanted their ethnicity represented by calling
hurricanes Bobbyjo, Bubba or Cletus.

Based on experiences, I know advertisers do, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the govt don’t as well. Thing is … which government?
Ps. If I never post again, look for me in Gitmo (I can’t spell Guantanamo).

Re: Storm Eowyn
They dont Cussie, the alert warning system doesnt come from the Goverment as such, it comes to any phone from the mobile towers that you see around the country, and that our phones connect to for us to get a signal.
