Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 19th February) - Farke targets 92 points

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 19th February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Farke targets 92 points

Daniel Farke has urged his Leeds United side to secure 20 more points from their remaining 13 Championship fixtures to guarantee automatic promotion. While the current form guide suggests Leeds could reach a phenomenal 100 points, the German manager is taking a more cautious approach, aiming to reduce the pressure on his players.

Farke acknowledged the team's positive position but stressed the long road ahead. Historically, 92 points have been sufficient for promotion in five of the last six seasons (excluding the previous campaign). The last time two teams surpassed 92 points for promotion was in the 2016/17 season, when Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion achieved 94 and 93 points, respectively.

Yes, there's a gap, (between Leeds and Burnley in third) and that's definitely, definitely good. But sadly there are more than just four or five games to go. Sadly, we have still many, many games to go. If we were to stop right now on 72 points, we would perhaps make it into the top six, but it's not guaranteed. Hopefully we won't lose all the last 13 games, so I think it's a major step. But we have to definitely reach the play-offs and in order to be there in the top two with automatic promotion, yeah, we need to win 20 more points. And for that, it's a long road. Each and every game is complicated.

Farke appeal dashed

Daniel Farke will be forced to watch his side's crucial Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United from the stands next Monday, after receiving his third yellow card of the season against Sunderland. Despite supporters hoping for an appeal, FA rules state that yellow cards, considered minor disciplinary actions, are not eligible for appeal, dashing any hopes of overturning the touchline ban.

While Farke will be present at Bramall Lane, his matchday experience will be significantly altered. He is prohibited from occupying his usual dugout position before, during, and after the game. Leeds fans accustomed to Farke's post-match salute to the travelling support will also be disappointed, as touchline bans explicitly forbid entering the field of play at any point.

He will be unable to actively coach his team or issue instructions during the match itself. However, the rules do allow him to participate in pre-match, half-time, and post-match team talks in the dressing room. He can also engage with match officials before and after the game, provided they are agreeable to such an approach, but crucially, any interaction in the tunnel is strictly forbidden.

FA rules offer no recourse. Regulations classify a yellow card as a 'minor disciplinary action,' and appeals are only permissible for more serious offenses. The FA, in alignment with PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), maintains this stance to prevent a deluge of appeals against yellow cards.

95.7% chance of promotion

Leeds have a 95.7% chance of promotion this season, according to leading sports analytics company OPTA. Unsurprisingly, the Blades are not far behind (62%), whilst Burnley (38%) and Sunderland (4%) make up the rest. They also tip the Whites to hold on to top spot, with a 78.8% chance of lifting the coveted Championship title with Sheffield Utd only afforded a 15.3% chance.

92 points?

Complete lack of ambition.

Don’t worry, even if he tops 100 some will still be making that call.

Morning all
If we are confident of promotion we really ought to be looking for new players now, not after the new season has begun, but that's just me.

It does annoy me when managers like farke get a ban for straying 2 yards on the pitch because of pure jubilation and managers like klopp can run 10 yards on waving imaginary cards to get a player sent off and get away scott free, but that's just me.

Robotics to the rescue: Remote-Controlled Boots.

The manager secretly equips his players’ boots with tiny vibrating motors, sending coded pulses to direct movements and tactical changes. Left foot vibrates twice? Press high. Right foot buzzes once? Drop deep.

Tactical Drone Delivery

A small drone, disguised as a wayward pigeon, drops tiny paper notes onto the pitch with last-minute instructions, all the while "fluttering" to avoid suspicion.

Low tech option: Disguised Vendor Signals.

He infiltrates the stadium disguised as a food vendor, selling bratwurst near the dugout. A ketchup squeeze means attack, mustard means defend, and an exaggerated sneeze signals a tactical switch... or substitution.

Fake Fan Chants

The manager plants a group of supporters in the stands who chant specific phrases as coded messages. “We want more goals!” could mean switch to attacking, while “Hold the line!” signals a defensive approach.

Ball Boy Messenger

He bribes a ball boy to discreetly pass notes to players when returning the ball. Sorted.

When you look at the video of Farke running onto the pitch when we score that last minute goal it really shows how stupid that rule is. In a moment like that with so much at stake it would take one hell of a cool manager to calmly stand there when all that bedlam was going on around him.
Its rules like this that really piss me off, as the person who comes up with thse sort of rules must have never been in that sort of situation before. Doesnt matter whether its Farke or any other manager, its just plain stupid.

The powerful get away with things that the plebs get punished for... think Downing street parties during covid, for example.

One rule for one & a different rule for others....it stinks!

We mustn't go into next season with the thinking of waiting until the end of August for quality recruitment. We'll need the nucleus of our squad settled in before a ball is kicked in the PL.

Killjoys.

How to take out all the fun out of a victory, Greenn. :(

Mate of mine is a founding member of the “ Sack Farke Brigade “. He was on the chat moaning as soon as Rothwell & Struijk came on about the negative substitutions and that DF hadn’t a clue & needed to go. Massive slice of humble pie later he now wants to book 3 days in Leeds to celebrate the title 😂

Probably too early to start the debate "Which of our current squad would hack it in the PL?" ;-)

By about two months, Clitheroe. ;-)

I have my private thoughts on that matter.

But there were no parties at downing street sean, you believe the lefty rhetoric at your peril, Boris has clearly said what happened, also his biggest mistake was allowing a leftie solicitor to put his case forward, look how that worked out.

History will tell us LUFC don't do that sort of thing, we rest on our laurels, we'll have to see what the pre season brings under the new regime, but I'm not expecting much, hope I'm proved wrong.

That sentence used to have a different meaning last season.
