Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Monday 14th April) Bogle shines as Leeds edge closer to top flight

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Monday 14th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Bogle shines as Leeds edge closer to top flight

Leeds United reclaimed the top spot in the Championship with a well-earned victory over a disappointing Preston North End side, edging closer to a coveted return to the Premier League. The win takes them to 88 points, ahead of Burnley by virtue of goal difference, but more importantly five clear of third placed Sheffield Utd.

Daniel Farke's team started strong, with Manor Solomon's stunning curler from 20 yards putting them ahead just four minutes into the match. However, Preston responded swiftly, with Kaine Kesler-Hayden's powerful strike leveling the score less than two minutes later after poor defending from Firpo.

Leeds quickly regained the advantage, with man of the match Jayden Bogle converting Solomon's precise cross from close range in the 13th minute. From that point onwards, the promotion-chasing hosts dominated proceedings, controlling possession and creating numerous opportunities. Joel Piroe was unlucky not to extend the lead, his close-range shot crashing against the crossbar.

Preston, in contrast, offered little threat and rarely troubled Karl Darlow. Their season appears to be fading away, with only one win in their last 11 league games. Their passing was littered by mistakes, they looked disinterested for large parts of the game, and they had less bite than a goldfish!

Leeds' superior goal difference means that seven points from their remaining four matches will all but guarantee their promotion back to the Premier League. The victory against Preston was a crucial step in that direction, showcasing their attacking prowess and defensive resilience.

Have the Blades lost their steel

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder could be under investigation following a post-match altercation after his team's 2-1 defeat to Plymouth Argyle, a loss that further dents their promotion ambitions. The incident, sparked by Wilder's disapproval of Plymouth's celebrations, resulted in a heated tunnel fracas involving players from both sides.

Plymouth, fighting for Championship survival, pulled off a surprise victory against the Blades at Home Park. After Jesurun Rak-Sakyi gave Sheffield United the lead, Plymouth responded with goals from Ryan Hardie and a late winner from Muhamed Tijani, igniting celebrations that Wilder deemed excessive.

Sources report that Wilder confronted Plymouth players Mustapha Bundu and Darko Gyabi following the final whistle, triggering a chain of events that culminated in a significant clash in the stadium tunnel. Witnesses described a heated melee as tensions boiled over between the two teams, raising serious concerns about player conduct and overall safety.

The authorities are now investigating the incident, and both Sheffield United and Plymouth Argyle could potentially face repercussions. Fines and suspensions are likely for any individuals found guilty of misconduct. For Wilder, the prospect of disciplinary action adds another layer of pressure as he struggles to steer his team back on course.

The defeat to Plymouth marks Sheffield United's third consecutive loss, following setbacks against Oxford United and Millwall. Their promotion hopes are fading fast, and the off-field drama of the tunnel incident further complicates an already challenging situation for Wilder.

Fighting in the tunnel, pure luxury, we didn’t have covered in tunnels to argue in... we had to scrap in the car park, in the snow, naked after the communal bath in freezing cold water, what did a proper job on your manhood... talk about a wrinkled peanut, the embarrassment of it all, had to dip the todger in a lukewarm cup o’ Bovril to regain some semblance of masculinity. Can't fight properly if you have to use a pin and a magnifying glass to find the old todger

Tell that to kids these days and they wouldn't believe you. Soppy soft nancy boys.

Leeds have one foot in the premier league but must not get complacent, we have to approach it with the notion that sheff united will win their last 4 games and get to 95 points

I didn't think Wilder could become any more Wilder after last weeks rants but this was classic. And it's probably the first thing Gyabi has done since we helped Ciiteh save £5M off their PSR responsibilities a couple of seasons ago. He certainly Gyabi as good as he got on Saturday...

Farke four games away from becoming Elland Road folklore now.

Mornig all
Another 3 points, could and should have been 6-1, a host of missed chances, but at least we are creating chances in the first place, would be a bigger concern if we weren't.
Preston were poor, but it only takes one deflection to go in, so we had to be on the boil when they crossed the halfway line, firpo was fully to blame for their equaliser so we didn't need futher mistakes like that.
The atmosphere and tension was there to be felt, the SS seemed to get news first, I was in the ESU and could see they knew something, then folk around me started showing their phones , when plymuth got a second it was like we'd scored another, it quickly fell on to the pitch as I saw Joe Rodon shouting to the players what had happened and he was calling for calm.
A nervy ending when you are waiting for the 3rd goal but in the end it mattered not.
A great night had in Leeds afterwards, imagine what it'll be like against stoke if we win at oxford then beat stoke on monday afternoon.
On e game at a time, but it's looking favourable if we keep it simple and easy, but this is Leeds and we don't seem to do things the easy way.
If we collapse now, "Leeds are falling apart" needs to take over from MOT as our anthem, hopefully, that won't happen.

Good morning EB & all.
“ Less bite than a goldfish “ , you’ve obviously never had a bite from the Razor Toothed Bolivian Man Eating Goldfish, and have you ever tried peeling an orange with 1 finger on each hand ? Vicious breed.

Good day all round for us on Saturday and a fantastic atmosphere in the ground but we need to stay focused until we’re guaranteed promotion. Preston never really bothered us on Saturday after their goal but at 2-1 it was only one mis-timed tackle or loss of concentration away from a disaster.

I gave Bogle my MOTM, the shift that lad put in was awesome and capped off by taking the ball to the corner at the end and then winning the corner summed up his whole day. His celebration and the cheer from the fans after winning the corner summed up his whole performance.

Sheff Utd are hitting their slump at just the wrong time ( for them ) long may it continue. Let’s March On & win the title now and on to the Promised Land.

Things are looking a lot better than they did after the Luton game but I'm taking nothing for granted. Oxford could do to us what they did to the Blades so until we're home and hosed I shall remain cautiously optimistic.
The boys certainly looked up for it against Preston so the signs are good. We could have had a hatfull but it was one of those days, especially for Piroe.
I think if we can win the next two it's a done deal.

I have always hated that chant when opposing fans do it, but more especially when Leeds fans do it when we're playing particularly well.

I suppose it is GenZ speech, where being wicked or sick means good.

When Leeds fans chant "Leeds are falling apart again" even when the team is playing well, it's usually done with irony and swagger.

We like to mock the narrative. Leeds have a long-standing reputation for dramatic collapses, so when they're winning or dominating a game, fans chant it sarcastically to mock that old stereotype, basically saying, "Yeah, sure, we're falling apart… look at the scoreline." We are not playing well, but still beating you.

Or we are just owning the banter. It's a way of showing fans are in on the joke and aren’t bothered by it. By using the chant when things are going well, they flip it on its head and take pride in defying expectations.

Then again it's winding up opponents. Chanting it while winning can wind up the opposing fans, especially those who’d usually use the chant to mock Leeds.

It is a piss take when we sing it, but I wouldn't unless it's after the game as it can easily come back to haunt you.
Not that I'm able to sing at games anymore like.

We don't look knackered or suffering with fatigue as some suggested a couple of weeks ago, we certainly haven't had the wobble we endured at the back end of last season.

We have only lost one game in 2025 down at Portsmouth, had the referee awarded us a definite penalty for the foul on James, I doubt we'd have lost that game.
