Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 29th April) Leeds thump Robins all over the park

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 29th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Leeds thump Robins all over the park

Leeds United brought their Elland Road season to a spectacular close, treating a jubilant home crowd to a dominant performance as they cruised past play-off chasing Bristol City. Daniel Farke's side put on a '5-star display' of dominance, pressing and precision, running out 4-0 winners against a shell-shocked Robins outfit.

With promotion back to the Premier League confirmed last week, the atmosphere at Elland Road was predictably one of celebration. Fans, eager to make up for the muted, empty-stadium title win of 2020, turned out in force, ready to party. Their team responded in kind, delivering a performance that underlined exactly why they are pushing for the Championship title and aiming for the coveted 100-point mark.

Leeds wasted little time asserting their authority. The opening goal arrived courtesy of Ao Tanaka, who provided a composed finish after latching onto Manor Solomon's perfectly weighted deep cross. It was a goal born of patience and clinical execution, setting the tone for the evening.

Despite needing points from their final two games to solidify their play-off hopes, fifth-placed Bristol City found themselves under the cosh throughout the game. They offered very little up front and were susceptible at the back, with relentless wave after wave of attacks from the men in White.

In truth, Bristol City did well to keep the deficit to one for as long as they did against a Leeds side demonstrating a significant gulf in class, despite only four places separating them in the table. Shot-stopper Max O'Leary pulled off some blinding saves, without whom the game could have turned into a cricket score.

The deserved second goal arrived around ten minutes into the second half. Joel Piroe's defence-splitting pass found Willy Gnonto, who matched the exquisite delivery with a cool, clipped finish beyond the otherwise excellent Max O'Leary in the Bristol City goal.

The floodgates truly opened late on with the introduction of forgotten man Largie Ramazani. The substitute made an immediate impact, scoring with his very first touch to make it 3-0, before adding a fourth in the final seconds to complete a resounding victory.

The final whistle was met with thunderous applause and cheers as Leeds players soaked up the richly deserved acclaim from their passionate faithful. As the team embarked on a buoyant lap of honour, it was clear this was the celebration denied to the fans back in 2020. Sixteen years away from the top flight, returning Championship champions in front of empty seats – this felt like the proper homecoming party.

With a win at all-but relegated Plymouth on Saturday now needed to secure the title, this dominant showing against a play-off contender was the perfect send-off from Elland Road. As the players circled the pitch, basking in the appreciation, it was a fitting end to the home season, and for Daniel Farke, if this was to be his last game in charge at Elland Road, it was certainly one to remember.

Farke - the icing on the cake

Daniel Farke exuded pride and confidence following his team's resounding 4-0 victory over Bristol City, as shared in his post-match interview with BBC Radio Leeds. Despite continuing whispers of job pressure heading into next season, the German showed no signs of wavering, instead focusing on the positives from an emotional week.

Farke admitted the buildup wasn't straightforward. After celebrations had finally subsided, the team only returned to training on Friday, facing a highly motivated Bristol City side. "I was a bit worried before the game," he confessed, but those concerns quickly faded as Leeds delivered what he described as "one of the best performances of the whole season."

The match saw four fantastic goals, with the team potentially capable of scoring even more, underscoring their determination to finish strong. Emphasizing the squad's resolve, Farke highlighted their desire to "end the season in style" and "put the icing on the cake."

He reiterated ambitions to extend their points tally and goal count, even aiming for the league title if possible. This win not only boosts morale but also signals Farke's commitment to pushing Leeds forward, proving that under his leadership, the team is focused on progress despite external pressures.

I'm a very proud manager. Obviously the week was not the easiest, because for the first three or four days we were celebrating. We got back to training on Friday and it's hard against a highly-motivated side. I was a bit worried before the game. I shouldn't have been because the lads showed their determination.

We scored four fantastic goals and should have scored way more. It was one of the best performances of the whole season. We were so determined to end the season in style with a top performance and a top result. We wanted to put the icing on the cake and we want to win the league if we can. We want to extend the points tally and the amount of goals.

Back home at 00.30

What a night!

Terrific, very loud atmosphere, probably the best I've experienced.

ER stadium, bouncing from the start to finish.

And what a team performance.

Thank you, Daniel & your boys.

A magical, memorable night.

If we never achieved anything of note again in the future, I'll take these scenes & this fantastic season with me to my grave. :-D

Daniel Farke has masterminded one of the most glorious seasons in Leeds United’s recent history, transforming adversity into triumph with breathtaking authority.

In a year that began under the shadow of a brutal summer sell-off, where over £140 million worth of talent departed, Farke took what was left, raw youth, untested resolve, and forged a side of immense character, style, and steel.

His Leeds have not just earned promotion, they’ve stormed back to the Premier League with flair, unity, and irresistible momentum, and now stand one win away from a richly deserved Championship title.

Farke’s tactical intelligence, calm authority, and unwavering belief have electrified Elland Road, rekindled a city’s pride, and written his name into the club’s modern folklore as the architect of an unforgettable resurgence.

To think we could potentially struggle at the top table and then you look at BC or Coventry. Absolutely no chance a team who musters 70 ish points can survive up there. The gulf was huge last night. Men against boys.

Incredible performance last night considering we were playing the team allegedly the 5th best in the division. The gulf in class was there for all to see.
Hopefully they can finish the job on Saturday.
If there was an award for pass of the season, Joel Piroe would have undoubtedly won it last night. Andy Hinchcliffe described it as Premier League class.

Was thinking the exact same during the game last night, Jay. If BC came up, I doubt they'd manage double figures for the season.

What a tremendous night. It certainly felt like the two promotion seasons crammed into those celebrations.

The hours spent refreshing the exchange page to secure a ticket was paid back 10 fold.

It was great to see the lads and DF celebrating twice in a week and here's to a third on Saturday.

Exactly. We at least have some foundation for a top level team. Perhaps the EFL needs to consider sending up its 3 best teams only. If the gulf is getting bigger what is the point of potentially a team on 70 going up over a team on maybe 92.
It isnt just the team its also the whole structure of the club being able to cope from top to bottom.

Leeds were relaxed last night, and played without the pressure of promotion around their necks. Reminded me a bit of O'Leary's babes - playing without fear.

The crowd last night would certainly have given Marathe something to think about as he reportedly mulls over ridiculous appointments like Anccelotti jnr. I’m old school and don’t think you should change a manager who has achieved promotion especially in such style. One thangs for sure if the decision is made Farke can be in no doubt about his standing with the Leeds fans

The play-offs generate money - that is all the EFL want.

It’s the “richest game in football ” that’s not a tag line they will want to discard any time soon.

But not for them, EFL basically get scraps from the EPL table, the TV rights money for the championship is a pittance compared to the top tier...

In most seasons we'd have been celebrating promotion for the last month or so and had a relatively stress free season. It has been a bit of a freak couple of seasons in the way that 3 teams have been so strong. In a lot of seasons we'd have probably been a dozen or so points clear of 3rd place since January and any wobble would have been slightly concerning rather than inducing a meltdown.

I don't think the gap between 3rd and 6th has usually been as big as it has in the last couple of seasons. I don't much care for the play-offs because of how they don't give any advantage to the team finishing 3rd but like others say it generates a lot of cash and also extends the season. If it had been top 3 going up then the race for promotion would have been over a long while ago once Sunderland fell away.

That's the way they like it. They've had decades to put that right. Feeding monies into the lower leagues would improve British football, but the gulf is just getting bigger...

They wont look at it but they should.
The trend in this direction has been coming before the last couple of seasons. Nightmare scenario for SU.
By far the 3rd best team could lose out to BC.
But we know how that feels and I admit it will be hilarious to watch ham sandwich face suffer.
Is it 1 v 4 & 2 v 3 in play offs?

Didn’t get much sleep last night, the adrenaline still way too high.

What a special night to be a part of, I’m getting emotional now typing these words.

A truly memorable night.
