NIMBY

Post by Sean_Nile »

Windmills, 5G cell phone masts, solar panel fields, high rise buildings. Ed Miliband’s wife embroiled in Nimby housing row. Would you be upset if something was built near you that you didn't want, or has it already happened to you?

The Galloway Hills (aka my back yard) has so many wind turbines the government pays billions, yes, BILLIONS, to operators each year to turn them off, and, guess what, another mega-farm is going through planning consultation right now. Fortunately, Capitalism will prevail over residents feelings, you will be pleased to hear.

You read about noise pollution from aircraft, trains, and lorries but if they don't effect your life then you don't bother about runways, train tracks, or bypasses... not to mention agricultural land being taken up by solar panels. The country side is disappearing.

Big news in Finland is that TikTok wants to build a data centre which they reckon will take up 10% of electricity production and this will mean price hikes for regular customers. Oh and the EU wants Finland to adopt European guage railway lines... Brussels deciding what Helsinki should do.

Minister: Finland plans to change its track gauge to European standard
Finland's track gauge is the same as Russia's was in the late 19th and early 20th century— 1,524mm — which is 89mm wider than the European standard... I suppose it is all part of EU sanctions against Russia... no rail trade.

5G masts are going up everywhere in city centers... and no one is adequately addressing health concerns related to 5G technology, with some studies suggesting potential risks from radiofrequency radiation... but we must have our internet connection.

In the UK at least any applications for new telecom masts need to include the appropriate ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection) certification as part of the application to the relevant LPA (Local Planning Authority).

All false economy just like the stuff we import from canada for drax, kin joke.
By the time theyv'e planned, manufactured, painted, transported, erected and tested, the turbines are at a loss for around the first 22 years of their 25 yr lifespan, work that out OB.
Oh and they then have to maintain them, that ain't cheap, I've worked on them all over the world in my 2nd career and earned a small fortune.

Yes, a few hundreds yards away a large housing estate where the old rhubarb forcing sheds used to be ,the vilagy feel is slowly being eroded, plus there's planning gone I'm for battery storage in a nearby farmers field. If we didn't have family responsibilities we'd consider moving to a more rural location

Pity the poor solar panels they are planning to spray chemicals to block out the sun and so avert climate change, all the while not thinking plants need sunshine to grow... and what about the flipflop boys, no Tshirts and shorts for them.

The Google data center in Finland was in the news today. It generates enough heat to supply warmth for a small City.

Know it well, my first house as a grown up was Outwood. Used to play Sunday morning footy against Carlton WMC.
