Eurovision 2025 Poll

Post by Sean_Nile »

The Eurovision has changed over the years. There used to be conducted orchestras playing live music, now everything is on tape and it is more about spectacle, gender identity, and with the exclusion of some countries like Russia, and the inclusion of Israel, politics has crept into the proceeding. It has of course been turned into a camp pageant.

A Finnish group called Kaj is representing Sweden.. nerdy men in brown suits singing about going to sauna. No politics, no sexual innuendo, you might say wholesome pop. I hope it wins... like sauna it is clean an refreshing.

Finland is represented by sleazy erotic Erika. Lots of exposed flesh, lewd grinding, sexual posing, lustful thrusting, the most tasteless performance ever, but calculated to appeal to the sex addicted Eurovision crowd. Nil points.

How will you vote?

Gone are the day when the UK were serious contenders. Is it because Europe has turned it back on Britain. Is it because we is Brexit?
Remember when there was block voting... everyone in the Soviet block voted for Russia, and Cyprus always voted for Greece.

United Kingdom has won five times:
1. 1967 – Puppet on a String by Sandie Shaw
2. 1969 – Boom Bang-a-Bang by Lulu (in a four-way tie)
3. 1976 – Save Your Kisses for Me by Brotherhood of Man
4. 1981 – Making Your Mind Up by Bucks Fizz
5. 1997 – Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Sweden and Austria were the only 2 countries under 12/1 until yesterday. 1/1 amd 11/4 - 12/1 bar.

But theres a big late plunge on France - from 16/1 in to 4/1 with most bookies.

Yes the Eurovision Song Contest has evolved from a modest post-war unifying project into a global entertainment phenomenon. While still rooted in its original goals of cultural exchange and unity, it has become a dazzling spectacle known for elaborate performances, flamboyant staging, soft porn, overt sexualisation, and diverse musical styles. It now embraces not just Europe but also countries outside its borders, reflecting its growing international appeal.

Eurovision has become a platform for political expression, LGBTQ+ visibility, and national identity, often sparking debate as well as celebration. It’s a blend of serious competition and camp entertainment, with voting blocs, fan-driven momentum, and it was the phone in vote that won it for hard metal Lordi and Finland. Viral moments shaping outcomes. More than just a song contest, it’s now a cultural institution with worldwide fans, annual traditions, and enduring influence on pop culture.

It has promoted counter culture ideas that are hard to stomach by people who hold conservative values... it has become a propaganda machine for minority alternative life styles.

Thus I would want "Bara Bada Bastu" by KAJ to win because it is the complete anthesis of everything that the Eurovision has come to represent

The original purpose of the Eurovision Song Contest was to unite European countries through a shared television experience after the devastation of World War II.

Launched in 1956 by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), it aimed to foster cultural exchange and cooperation among nations by using the relatively new medium of live television. It was more an event to test the broadcasting capabilities of television between nations. Remember when "outside broadcast" of sporting event was a really big thing. Now we just take it for granted that a Leeds football game will be streamed somewhere on the interwebs.

The contest was inspired by Italy’s Sanremo Music Festival and was intended to test the limits of live TV broadcasting across multiple countries while promoting a spirit of unity through music.

It has certainly moved on from that era... and it's present format apparently turns many people off. Perhaps the culture it promotes is cringe worthy.

We really won with Sam Ryder the year Russia invaded Ukraine. Every country voted for them through sympathy pushing us into second place.

Sweden's entry, performed by the Finnish-Swedish trio KAJ, is notable for its humorous take on sauna culture and a little bit of swearing in Finnish, featuring dancers in towels and a catchy tune that has resonated with both juries and the public. I do hope the dancers don't whip off their towels at the end. It will be a victory for the beige if KAJ win in their brown suits. No glitz sparkle and glamour, a victory for normality

Austria's JJ offers a powerful pop-opera ballad, while France's Louane delivers an emotional performance with "Maman," a tribute to her late mother.

Mother's are good everyone should have one.

KAJ are famous for the opera song Nessun Dorma, only they sing about a Nissan car slipping off a wintry road and into a ditch, and he has to call his brother with a Renault to come and pull him out. This illustrates that they do have some vocal ability besides being a novelty group... it's some serious fun.

There has been a whisper going about that if you look at the entries that the crowd are looking at on Youtube and listening to on Spotify then KAJ will be the winner.

Some say it is the wisdom of the crowd, but I wouldn't bet on it.😉
The crowd may have spoken but the phone in vote is anybodies guess since there is no data for that.

🏆 Top Eurovision 2025 Entries by Combined YouTube Views and Spotify Streams

1. 🇸🇪 Sweden – KAJ – “Bara Bada Bastu”
YouTube Views: 7.2 million
Spotify Streams: 30.6 million
Highlights: A humorous and energetic homage to the Nordic sauna, performed in Swedish. The song has gained significant popularity, winning Sweden's Melodifestivalen 2025 with a record-breaking 4.3 million votes.

Interpreting the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 data through the lens of the "wisdom of the crowd" means analyzing collective audience behavior—views and streams—as a proxy for which songs resonated most deeply with the general public, irrespective of jury votes or national loyalties.

Here’s what the crowd is telling us:

1. Popularity trumps language barriers.
Sweden’s “Bara Bada Bastu” in Swedish tops Spotify with over 30 million streams and 7.2 million YouTube views, despite being a niche-language novelty song. This reflects a broader truth: Eurovision audiences reward charm, energy, and authenticity over conventional language accessibility.

2. Poland’s “Gaja” has massive resonance.
With over 10 million YouTube views—more than any other entry—Poland’s Justyna Steczkowska proves that visual impact and vocal intensity remain crucial to public appeal. The song's epic presentation appears to have captivated casual viewers even more than repeat Spotify listeners.

3. Spain blends substance and flair.
Melody’s “Esa Diva” holds a strong position in both views and streams. The crowd sees her as both an artistic performer and a charismatic presence. This dual appeal suggests broader cross-platform success and wide European support.

Those are the top 3. France comes in at number 10. I listened to it and it is not danceable, unless it is a slow dance to round off the night at the Scout Hall.

It would be remiss for me to leave out Finland

4. 🇫🇮 Finland – Erika Vikman – “Ich Komme”
YouTube Views: 3 million
Spotify Streams: 9 million
Highlights: A vibrant, sexually empowered Eurodance hit, marking Erika Vikman's return to Eurovision.

If raunchy sordid grandmother sex still sells, then Wayne Rooney will love this, besides it's danceable.

It puts me off tea and cake on the sofa.

Not a great response in the poll but someone picked the winner in Austria, and Israel and Sweden were in the top 4.

UK will never win again as most of Europe do not like us. We pay around £300K to gain automated entry into the final. Waste of money lets spend that on something worthwhile in the UK. We can still enter and be knocked out in the Semi finals !

Sweden won it a couple of years back and were hoping they would not win it again because if the cost of hosting the event.

In the past Ireland who have won it a few times have express the opinion that hosting is a financial burden.

All the staging and security it must be a hassle. I read a couple of people were arrested for trying to protest during the Israeli song... pot of paint involved and one security guard hurt, but not seriously.
