Experience is essential in the Premier League.

Post by 1964white »

Experienced Players Are Key to Leeds Surviving the Premier League.

Well worth watching Locky's 18 minutes video.

Check out the Premier League experience of Spurs (poor season), Ipswich (shocking season) & the current Leeds squad on this video.

Doesn't that argument fall down somewhat given West Ham are crap and I don't imagine (haven't checked) but Brighton and Forest for example aren't exactly overwhelmed with Premier League old heads?

West Ham are above Manure & Spurs, attaining 40 points, a total easily adequate to survive relegation, without that experience they would have struggled big-time.

Erhmm!!??? West Ham have a more experienced squad than Spurs who have an young inexperienced team... yet Spurs are 16th and West Ham are 17th. Yet he seems to be saying experience helps you to survive.

Well, James Milner has nearly 650 PL appearances under his belt at Brighton. Dunk, Marsh & Welbeck will be very high too.

Leeds are in a better state than Ipswich were when they came up, experienced-wise.

107 Meslier
106 James
102 Bamford
85 Struijk
59 Byram
50 Bogle
43 Firpo

This may change as there are serious doubts with regard to Meslier & Bamford remaining at Leeds.

Also, Firpo & Byram in contract discussion, and the Struijk links aren't going away

Our midfield is very weak on the PL experience front.

Ampadu 26 appearances.

Milner hardly kicked a ball all season.

Brighton, Brentford, Forest hardly had any Premier League experience between them when promoted.

Nor did the Bielsa side or Wolves.

It's far more important you buy the best player you can imo regardless of Premier league experience.

A squad of ageing experienced Premier league players, not for me.

And besides that all those players you mentioned bar Bamford briefly struggled in the Prem anyway.

Good Premier league players not years past their prime would be far beyond our finances.

So the only experienced Premier league players we could get would be old ones past their best

I'd rather we find the next Premier league star than a past one.

West Ham 15th
Manure 16th
Spuds 17th
One game left.

The Premier League has changed since Brighton, Brentford, Wolves & Bielsa's Leeds were promoted.

Experience signings is about what a player brings to a club.

If we sign a couple of experienced PL campaigners, it would probably double the 724 appearances figure we are currently on, which would be significantly higher than Ipswich's total of 703, a team demoted that lacked quality & experience.

Then we should sack DF and bring in a proven successful Premier league manager

Sean Dyche :)

I don't think signing a load of Premier League has beens is the way forward.

Leicester must have plenty of Premier league experience, Vardy, Coady, Winks, Pereira, Vestergaard, Ayew, Ndidi got to be well over 1000 Premier league games between them.

Didn't do them any good.

And doubt we will tbh as we are apparently looking at a data approach.

Just let Red Bull run our recruitment imo.

I didn't say sign loads of has-beens, a couple who would give us the necessary experience would be handy.

Tsiklmas at 28yo & with 65 appearances for Liverpool is the type of signing I'm thinking about.

While experience would be an asset Pl players need to be able to think quickly, and the recruitment needs to reflect that.

Those split second decisions coupled with the ability to execute are a must and will make the difference especially as we are expected to adjust our strategy. Quick thinkers can read the game and be in the right place at the right time.

This is one reason why I am not averse to seeing KP back in the fold next time.
