Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 31st October) Tanaka set to be axed for Seagulls encounter

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Friday 31st October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Tanaka set to be axed for Seagulls encounter

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke faces a delicate selection dilemma ahead of Saturday’s Premier League showdown against Brighton at the Amex Stadium. With a fully fit squad at his disposal for the first time in months, the German manager must now make some tough choices that could stir emotions among the Elland Road faithful.

Central to the debate is whether Ao Tanaka, who recently returned to the starting lineup following a lengthy knee injury, will retain his place in midfield or make way for Anton Stach. Many supporters see Tanaka as a symbol of commitment and humility, especially after he openly admitted that he is still adapting to the demands of top-flight football while striving to raise his own standards.

Farke has praised Tanaka’s self-awareness, calling it the mark of a player determined to improve. The Leeds manager remains pleased with the Japanese midfielder’s solid display against West Ham, though he acknowledged it was natural for the player to tire after an hour of action. With Stach pushing hard for a recall following his rib injury, the gaffer may be tempted to freshen up his midfield against a Brighton side known for their relentless pressing and technical precision.

I like when someone is humble, self-critical and puts his demands really high. No reason to be too self-critical. Ao was fantastic for us, of course, it’s the first time in his career he has played in a top league, so a point to prove there. Had a fantastic pre-season, also a fantastic start in the Everton game, for example.

Sadly, an injury and no one is to blame, especially not him. Out for a few weeks, it’s not like the first game back, where you play the opponent out of the park. “Definitely a solid performance against West Ham. Didn’t expect him to be Man of the Match, but I think he was quite solid and played his part to dominate the game. A bit tired after 60 minutes, but that’s normal.

Championship duo on Leeds radar

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Leeds United’s recruitment team are already busy identifying attacking reinforcements to bolster Daniel Farke’s survival operation. While the Whites have shown plenty of flair and energy in the top flight this season, the forward line remains an area of concern. Leeds are showing interest in two familiar Championship faces; both of whom happen to be American internationals.

No surprises that the first name on their list is Josh Sargent, a player who has long been admired by Farke. The Norwich City front man, enjoyed a blistering start to the season, hitting five goals in his opening four matches before a barren spell coincided with the Canaries’ slide down the table. Norwich currently find themselves deep in trouble after just twelve games, which could very well unsettle the 25yo.

His versatility across the front line, combined with his relentless work rate and technical ability, make him an attractive option for Leeds. However, with the forward tied to Carrow Road until the summer of 2028, any deal would likely require a significant outlay, monies Leeds may find difficult to find without the prospect of selling first!

The second target, Coventry City’s Haji Wright, is also enjoying a superb run of form. The 27-year-old striker has found the net eight times in just eleven Championship appearances this season, spearheading Frank Lampard’s side to the top of the Championship. Wright’s athleticism, composure in front of goal, and growing reputation have marked him out as one of the division’s standout forwards. Yet, prising him away mid-season will be difficult, with Coventry understandably reluctant to part with one of their key players during a promotion bid.

For Leeds, both Sargent and Wright fit the profile of forwards who could add dynamism and depth to Farke’s attacking options. Whether the club can turn admiration into acquisition remains to be seen, but the groundwork for a busy January is clearly already underway.

A Proclamation from Lord Flashheart, Most Valiant Knight of the Garter.

By the beard of good Queen Bess, whose tongue is like an eel to tickle a man's tonsils, what foul whisper is this... “bolster Daniel Farke’s survival operation”? “Delicate selection dilemma”? To that I say Woof Woof!!!

Fie, varlets! ’Tis not survival but a triumphant masque of conquest! Our noble Farke, that Prussian falconer of the pitch, doth not fret o’er choices for the field, he commandeth a legion of winged thunderbolts! Gnonto returneth from his calf’s wound, swifter than Mercury; Ampadu standeth steadfast as the Tower of London, Woof!

We have too many heroes, ’Tis a banquet of valor, where every morsel is a victory, and the base knaves of Brighton quake in their codpieces... those milksop, limp-wristed Brighton influenced players, who flutter about like perfumed courtiers in a fainting fit.

Survival? Nay, we scorn such craven words! Leeds doth not cling to life-rafts but launcheth galleons upon the Premier tide! Eleven points from nine matches? Mere fanfare for the charge! Farke’s touch turneth dross to gold, and we shall not just dodge the drop, we shall smite it with a broadside, sink the Brighton dandies ’neath the waves, and cry “Woof!” to the heavens!

Up, ye sons of Yorkshire, hoist the standard and charge! For Leeds is unconquerable, unstoppable, and by heaven’s grace, utterly magnificent! Woof Woof!

I wrote and have sung this song once before and the majority opinion was that I was being a spoil sport. Apparently Halloween is a much loved holiday in America especially for children, and it seems to have been exported all over the world... perhaps it is cynical to believe that it is just another marketing ploy to get people to cram and fill their lives full of more rubbish, for even now the supermarkets are awash with all sorts of junk associated with Halloween.

Every other night of the year we protect our children from ghosts, vampires, bogeymen but on the one night of Halloween we encourage it.

I hate Halloween.

Hadji Wright I would be very pleased to get but there's no way Coventry are letting him go mid season unless someone offers silly money.
Josh Sargeant is a more realistic target but whether he improves us, I'm not sure. Decent finisher at championship level though.

It didn't seem to me that Tanaka did enough against West Ham to displace Stach particularly for an away game . Everybody characterises the Ampadu , Longstaff , Stach midfield as exclusively defensive/ball winning when Longstaff and Stach both up to Burnley had decent creative stats. Both Ampadu and Aaronson discovered against West Ham that it was possible to progress with the ball at their feet albeit against poor opposition . As opposed to the Burnley game it looks like we will have decent options on the bench at Brighton to change up the attack so the pragmatic approach would be to keep it tight with a physical midfield for 70 or so minutes . If we're still in the game at that stage it would be good to have Tanaka , Gnonto and James coming on when the Brighton fans might be getting a bit anxious.

Exactly. If Coventry are fighting for promotion getting rid of their top scoring threat is the last thing they'll do. Whatever money they may get from a sale is nothing in comparison to the amount of money they'll get for gaining promotion.

Sargent is a decent player, but he's not a transformative figure by any stretch of the imagination.

Unlikely our away starting 11 will feature Tanaka where the focus could be to shut up shop for long stretches of the game.

The January window. I don’t have too many happy memories….. if any.
Coventry would be nuts to sell their goal scorer in chief when they are opening up some daylight at the top of the Championship. Hopefully our squad build is more ambitious than Sargent. He has also has his fair share of injuries.

Was reading that Spurs want to offload Solanke. That would be a nice loan deal.

It may depend if one or either of the two quoted players has a buyout clause. Not beyond the realms of possibility.

Tbh I can’t see us buying either of them mid season unless we are really struggling.

Just another of those very tenuous links stories.
