Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thursday 6th November) - Recall Clause Offers Leeds a Lifeline in Ramazani Loan Gamble

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Thursday 6th November, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Recall Clause Offers Leeds a Lifeline in Ramazani Loan Gamble

During a recent Q&A, Athletic journalist Beren Cross revealed that Largie Ramazani’s season-long loan to Valencia has a recall clause. Many of the ER faithful still haven't forgiven Daniel Farke for allowing the 24yo to leave in the first place. After lighting up Elland Road last season with his raw pace, flair, and eye for goal, Ramazani was inexplicably deemed surplus to requirements and shipped off to Spain.

At first, it looked like Leeds might regret it - he came off the bench on his debut and set up a goal within minutes. But since then? It’s been a nightmare. Just 85 minutes of football across five substitute appearances, languishing 20th out of 21 in Valencia’s Whoscored ratings with a 6.17. Hardly the platform for a young talent to grow.

Cross explained that if Leeds feel Carlos Corberán isn’t giving Ramazani the development he needs, they could recall him in January - not necessarily to bring him back to Elland Road, but to ship him somewhere he’ll actually play. That last bit will sting for fans who’d love nothing more than to see him tearing down the wing in white again.

Here’s the thing: a player like Ramazani doesn’t just lose talent overnight. He needs minutes, confidence, and belief from his manager. If Valencia can’t provide that, Leeds should surely bring him back to Elland Road, stick him on the wing, and watch him terrorise defences again – for Leeds, not someone else.

Struggling on the road

Leeds travels this season have been anything but fruitful, with goals proving hard to come by once they step away from Elland Road. While their 3-1 victory at Molineux offered a rare burst of attacking prowess, which puts them ahead of Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Wolves in terms of away goals scored, the bigger picture is far less encouraging.

That win at Wolves remains the lone bright spot in an otherwise barren away campaign, with Leeds failing to score at Arsenal, Fulham, Burnley, or Brighton. The lack of cutting edge in the final third has prompted growing doubts about both the tactical approach and the overall quality of their attacking play.

A glance at the numbers paints a clearer picture of the disparity between home and away form. At Elland Road, Leeds have averaged 1.6 points per game, compared to just 0.6 on their travels. Curiously, they’ve enjoyed marginally more possession away from home, but it’s how they use, or in Leeds case failing to make it count!

Away matches see Leeds pressing less aggressively, allowing opponents 15.9 passes before attempting to win back the ball, compared to 12.9 at home. This shift inevitably impacts their ability to disrupt opposition play in dangerous areas, with final-third ball recoveries dropping from four per 90 minutes at Elland Road to just 2.8 per 90 on the road.

Leeds need to improve their away form if they are to survive. Nottingham Forest and West Ham possess the quality and depth to claw their way out of trouble, while Burnley are built for a gritty relegation scrap. Leeds, right now lack that fight, and unless they rediscover it soon their struggles on the road will prove costly.

We play two styles of football the kindergarten swarm at home and park the bus at away games... and have no success with either.

The low block for away games is football’s equivalent of hiding under your bedroom bed and hoping the storm passes. It’s a tactical football designed for those who believe adventure is overrated and clean sheets are the true art form.

Ten men form a human wall while one lonely striker wanders upfield like a lost tourist, occasionally pretending to chase a pass. The manager calls it “defensive discipline”... the fans call it “ninety minutes of collective boredom”.

Every clearance is greeted like a goal, every corner defended as if it’s Custers last stand. By the end, if the scoreline still reads 0-0, it’s considered a triumph of grit, suffering, and divine intervention. But the end result usually is conceding a goal in extra time.

The high press for home games, on the other hand, is pure theatre. It’s football as a caffeine overdose... all running, shouting, and misplaced optimism. The team charges forward as if powered by the crowd’s collective hope and three cans of energy drink, determined to smother the opponent before they remember how to breathe. Flummoxed by the chaos.

Passing patterns are replaced by chaos, structure replaced by sweat, at least until the 70th minute when the legs go and then useless and pointless substitutions are made that have no influence on the game.

Welcome to the Kindergarten Swarm, a bunch of toddlers racing and chasing after the ball only to be cut open by a deft cross field pass into an area where there are no defenders.

Farke being German perhaps should apply Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's dialectical method. Hegel's approach involves the evolution of ideas through contradictions and resolutions, leading to progress. Kindergarten Swarm being the thesis, Park the buss the antithesis, and the synthesis, toddlers on a bus.

Given our total lack of cutting edge away from home then Ramrazani would be a great help to the team. I'd play him!

We need to score to get the draw / win with 25 to go...Gnonto and Ramrazani would scare the hell out of many tired defenders.

Corboran is a very defensive coach so not a total surprise Ramrazani is isn't getting the minutes (Too much flair)

Been out with a right quad injury since mid-Oct.
He has had his fair share of injuries. Regardless of what club he is at, if he is injured, he can't get game time.

Last season, he was in the squad 31 times across Championship/FACup. He played 960 minutes which is about 10 full games in a season. That's a very light load.

In addition to Largie, if you look at Gnonto, James, Okafor, NMecha, all seem to spend a lot of time on the treatment table. We have 4 or 5 wingers and still not guaranteed that 2 of them will be fit at any point in time.
No wonder Jack gets so much game time.

As Farke clearly does not rate Ramazani its unlikely he will be brought back to start in the current Leeds setup. The player needs a minutes on the pitch and once he hits his stride his value will increase. This is where I think this is going, loan him out and if he does well a nice bid will come in.

The idea that Ramazani is somehow going to come back and be our savior is just delusional. He scored a Grand Total of 6 goals in 62 games over two seasons for Almeria in La Liga. He scored 6 goals in 29 league matches for us last season in the Championship. So what has anyone seen that makes them think he will score goals in the very best league in the world? He's another 5'6" midget playing among men and in my view he would be a defensive liability in the Premier League.

A section of our fans get carried away, Paul.

Ramazani didn't track back in the championship.

Joseph & Ramazani are unproven in the Premier League and didn't even take their opportunity in the second tier.

The likes of Schmidt, Gyabi, Greenwood, Drameh, Shackleton & sadly Joffy are all a level below the Premier League, unfortunately many young players don't progress after their early promise.

Mmm, personally I think he is better that some of the options we have at the moment. He has not had a proper run in the team due to injury and other things, but I would definately play him ahead of JH and on a par with DJ, if not before him. An odd decision to loan him out for nothing IMO and I hope we can recall him.

I mean the season before he signed for us he got 3 goals and 5 assists for a side which was relegated in 1568 minutes which works out at a goal or an assist every 196 minutes in La Liga.

In his season in the Championship he got 6 goals and 2 assists in 783 minutes which is one every 97 minutes.

By a distance better than any other player with only Piroe and Solomon close and to put that into context even further.

Based on Championship record had Dan James played every minute and kept his record up he'd have got 33 goals or assists.

Largie would have got 42.

People downplay how well Largie did presumably to "defend" Farke.

But it can't be argued against that no player in our squad last season made a bigger impact in his minutes than Largie.

It is also true that Largie unlike basically anyone else in our squad has shown quality in the top level recently.

Imo Largie is a potential X factor player which we massively lack, he may not defend as well as Harrison for example (all be it I don't think he's as bad defensively as some say) but he is far more likely to create a chance by himself with a dribble or rifle in a 25 yarder.

I'm not "defending" Farke. I'm offering my honest thoughts on a player that was sent out on loan.

I think your thought process is flawed with regard to the number of goals that players MIGHT SCORE if only the Manager would keep them on the pitch. You can't really believe that Ramazani would have scored 42 goals of only he had played 90 minutes every match? In 91 appearances over the last 3 seasons he has 12 goals. Not exactly an indicator that he would run wild and score goals for fun in the Premier League.

I firmly believe Largie would have out performed Dan James last season had he played as often yes.

And I don't think anyone is suggesting he would score for fun.

More that he offers something different to what we have.

Harrison, James and Aaronson are similar versions of the same type of player.

Hard working, energetic, inconsistent end product types who put a shift in.

Largie is different, he's imo more the sort of player fans want to watch, pacey and direct and a bit different.

Unpredictable which imo is a good thing in such a stifled system as the one we play.

So for me yes I think letting Largie go was a big mistake and I think he was very much underused last season.

Who wouldn't rather have seen this talent nurtured than BA falling over every 30 seconds, Dan James running really fast out of play and JH passing backwards?

With his 21 goal contributions, Dan ]ames was named Leeds United Player of the Year for the 2024–25 season.

I would play my grandma ahead of Jack Harrison.

Yet, another player who showed promise when managed by Bielsa, his career has seriously declined since those times under the master.

He did well.

But imo Rama would have done as well if not better.

Personally I'd have given the award to Solomon but a loanee was never likely to win the award.

Before the window closed, Farke publicly said we needed a creator and a striker.
At the same time, Largie was being loaned out. That has to imply something.

He had a decent initial run with us in the Championship before getting injured. Never established himself after that and had to get past Solomon. His substitute appearances were below his pre-injury level.

We spent a good chunk of money on him. He has potentially under delivered versus that expectation (over delivered on Championship celebrations).

The plan could be to get our money back on him.

Ramazani is strictly a LEFT sided player. And you left out the ONE player that he would have to dislodge which is Noah Okafor who in my view is a better player. Now, would I take him as the backup over Harrison? If it was just about goal scoring the answer is probably yes. But the current version of Harrison is a much better defensive option. And much more willing to accept his role. So my current answer to that question is no.
