Things Leeds United fans can do to help during lockdown

Post by YorkshireSquare »

We are living in difficult times and without the weekly distraction and release of football, many fans will be struggling in isolation. Our discussion forums may provide some light relief as our members post about memorable games, music, authors and what might or might not happen when football eventually gets underway again. But there are many ways you can help, even whilst confined to the walls of your own home. There are some great organisations and charities out there working and raising money to support our front line NHS workers and those who are in the greatest need at this time, here are just a few ways in which you can help…

Leeds United Supporters Trust works with two local foodbanks to set up Leeds Fans Foodbanks, which aims to collect food items at every home game. But with the current lockdown meaning no matches are being played the trust have now asked supporters to donate online if they can. The trust posted on their fundraising page: "We've created this page so we can help the foodbanks by giving them the money to buy additional products. Make a donation and share it on your social channels using the #leedsbringmore” So far over £12,000 has been raised online but continued donations are vital during this difficult time. You can donate on the Leeds Fans Foodbank Just Giving page.

The guys over at The Terrace produced what is perhaps their most important kit mug of the year. All profits from the 'Thank You NHS' mugs are to be donated to NHS Charities Together. They have raised £5,000 which will support providing and covering well-being packs, food deliveries, wash kits, travel costs and more for NHS Staff. The mugs were such a success that they have now stopped taking orders whilst they get bust manufacturing them all. Mugs will be available again once they have caught up on production but if want to donate to the fantastic NHS Charities COVID-19 appeal in the meantime you can do so over on their Virgin Money page.

Snack Media are inviting the world of sport to take part in their ‘Fly the Flag’ campaign in a bid to raise money for charity and bring together communities that are suffering due to the COVID-19 outbreak. All you have to do is fly the flag on behalf of your club by waving your scarf, wearing your kit, flying a flag from your house, singing a chant with your family, or any other great ideas you may have. Take a photo or video and share on social media using the #FLYTHEFLAG hashtag. Then donate to one of their chosen charities (NHS Charities Together or Age UK) if you are able.

But the most important thing you can do is stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives. #StayHomeSaveLives #SideBeforeSelf
