Had moments Rutter.

Some decent at times holdup play

Little runs

But questions do need to be asked about this deal imo.

Every single German media source said 3 things

1) Talented but far from ready to be a regular in a top league

2) End product needs a lot of work, pressing is brilliant and can run with the ball but goals and match winning moments are severely lacking

3) Massively overpriced at £35mil.

Why was Orta allowed to make a signing in January (a month where by his own admission you only make signings if you have an urgent need) that isnt ready, massively over priced, and has a poor end product in a team full of them?

I like the look of Rutter for say £15mil as a backup who we slowly integrate into the team.

I cant fathom why we paid so much for him and are willing to rely on him though

To much expectation on such young shoulders (same as Gnonto)

Orta's ego. He wants to take all the credit for "discovering" these names before they go onto great things. The cruel irony I suppose is, the two players we missed out on, Gvardiol and Kvichy, are the ones going for the fees Radz and Orta could only dream of.

I thought he was lively up front tbf to him, definitely more dynamic than Pat. He probably had the best chance but fluffed his lines. Still early days but for a 20year old kid i like the look of him.

Agree.

But was he right for January when the need was instant not in 6,12,18 months time?

He is a project signing (one of them ones Radz hopes to flog for big money eventually)

We needed a now.

Change that headline to Far too much expected of him by the fans.

And of course fans are informed by the transfer fee (a hideous overpay but hey the 49ers wanted to play it so who cares right?)

Remember that this lad was brought in not to hit the ground running but to slot in behind in the pecking order and then Rodrigo went and got himself crocked in the very first game of Rutters Leeds career.

I hate repeating myself but I argued against his purchase as I didn't think we needed to buy him irrespective of the price.

However, this search for the "proven Pl goalscorer" has replaced the search for a proven Championship striker"

Hard to find for lots of reasons, wages, relegation battle, us, as three reasons why it is hard to attract real talent to the club.

I think we paid about 20 million pounds too much for him. Has some potential and seems a good lad but Orta must have been playing with 49er money. Smacks off stupidity and desperation

Not a ready-made forward for the PL required in January.

One for the future, I suspect.

Was interesting speaking to some Feyenoord fans last night who love Sini but thought he was not robust enough for the PL and was out injured a lot for them.
Also raving about Santiago Giménez who they expect to lose end of season but I guess we don’t want another 21 year old striker.
I declare my love for Saint Daniel and I can shoehorn him in to any conversation.

I have been over critical of late, which I apologised for, but hmm, I think I was right after all.

Today he looked like a lost sheep.

Where the hell are the goals going to come from

When is Rodrigo back?

He looks a quality player and someone who should offer a great deal in the long run. The question is what he brings this season, in another relegation scrap.

Remember that we did this deal and sent Gelhardt out on loan. As it is, I feel like Gelhardt offers as much if not more (based on last season's run in) than Rutter does.

I'm all for investing in youth and promising talent in the summer time. But we knew what we were looking at in January. I wouldn't be paying a record fee for a prospect at that time. We needed knowns rather than unknowns. I really do have high hopes for Rutter. But honestly, today, I'd have rather had Joffy around and have spread that 30 million around 2 or 3 solid squad players.

Rutter might turn out to be a great player. But he's a luxury that we probably can't afford right now.

Yeah I'd go with this

I think Rutter has talent and potential but as a January signing he made no sense and paying the fee we did made even less.

I'd does scream of an Orta ego buy to prove how clever he is and one he hopes to do interviews in 5 years to brag about

He clearly isn't what we needed now and definitely not at that price

It raises concerns about the 49ers? They paid for this, are they as blind as Radz? Orta shows them a favourable spreadsheet and leaves off the bad bits and they go "yeah awesome here is is cash".

I don't know if Joffy is the answer, his time at Sunderland suggests not.

But for that £35mil could we not find a more proven goalscorer and a creative midfielder?

Not Prem proven obviously but Ligue 1 maybe?

Championship?

Rutter was a Summer signing, a project signing.

Not a now.

Maybe not our future when we sell him at a loss after relegation to a team, who can develop him unlike us. They'll then sell him at a big profit. Three Stooges - get out!

We required a striker ready to start in the January window.
