Agree with that, it was an awful spot kick.

Re: Big Sam post Newcastle
As I said in the match thread it is something management should have decided prior to matches and the manager has to take it out of the players hands - same as like he doesn't ask Messlier and Robles who wants to play - Sam has to make that decision. For Sam to. Sam comes accross as lazy, I know Bielsa was obsessive in watching videos of all Leeds games but Sam should at least have watched highlights from all games and seen Bamford miss the penalty and also see some of the other misses and know he isn't clinical.
I would disagree with Sam that it would have been game over at 2-0. There would have been a long time to play and I think we'd have simply gone ultra defensive and that isn't our speciality. I reckon even at 2-0 Newcastle would have got back into the match and who knows if they came back from 2-0 down to 2-2 all the momentum would have been with them.

No, I disagree. Our chances would have been way over 50% in my eyes if we had gone 2:0 up. Whatever , the game presented us with the kind of chance you must take in such a game.weasel wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 2:31 pm

Any player can miss a pen, but sorry, it was such a poor penalty even if he had scored.
Agree that it should be clear who takes a possible penalty before the game though.

Re: Allerdyce instead of Gracia.
You dont need to open a new thread to repeat the same discussions that have been had already, just add in to the content already available.
We already have a Todays games thread where people chat about what is going on, so why create a new Chelsea/ Forest one?
Also question.
How many points did Gracia have after two games? 3
How many does Allerdyce have? 1
And finally if Allerdyce goes on to replicate the so called shite Gracia ( who isnt ) we get 7 points from his games.
( that means winning the next two)

Sorry. In my eyes Allerdyce clearly more up to the task than Gracia. Thought we played aweful under Gracia...and we had well beatable opponents under Gracia.Irish Ian wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 2:40 pm You dont need to open a new thread to repeat the same discussions that have been had already, just add in to the content already available.

Fair points from Sam in all honesty.
let's be honest with the pen situation... Bamford is said to be the designated pen taker... it is what it is... what if Rodrigo snatched it and skied it? We'd all be here slating Rodrigo for snatching it from the designated pen taker.

To be honest, since Raph left we have really struggled in the penalty and free kick area. I can't remember us scoring from a free kick all season, correct me if I'm wrong, maybe Klich in the cup. But most teams can rely on a few goals from free kicks during the season, and we have probably missed as many pens as we have scored.

Absolutely not. Pick your most confident player for pens and that is Rodrigo. Would have been fine with him missing but don’t think he would’veHewin wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 3:13 pm Fair points from Sam in all honesty.

Re: Big Sam
It isn't pretty
His selections are Old fashioned manager level 1. Pick as many of the older players as possible and park the bus, lob it forward if you get it.
But we today looked a better team than we have for a while
Certainly more organised defensively.
His tactics are set up to not lose, whether its enough to save us last 2 I don't know. He may be to negative for it tbh
But can tell he is a much more qualified coach than Marsch and Gracia.

He's sparked something in the players, had they got him before Gracia we might not be in this mess.

Imperative we keep him for the Championship, if we want an instant return. Not some fancy foreign hipster who gets sacked in February.

Re: Big Sam post Newcastle
For most teams 2-0 up and I would fully agree with you but I just think if we'd gone 2-0 up then we'd have just sat back and invited Newcastle to attack and if that happened I could see them getting 2,3 or 4 because you get into the mindset of just defending and so if Newcastle got level they would be far more likely to carry on and win as they would have the impetus.Ackermann wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 2:36 pm No, I disagree. Not that I wasn't furious when I saw who was taking the penalty. as I fully expected him to miss. as at 2-0 in theory it does give us a very good chance to win the match and there would be the possibility of a breakaway goal etc.

Re: Big Sam post Newcastle
I was expecting Rodrigo to take it and was staggered and furious when I saw Bamford was taking it, not blaming Bamford at all because as a striker he wants the opportunity to score but it should have been a decision taken out of his hands by the manager. It is such an important decision and yes Rodrigo might have skied it or had it saved but I think there was a much higher chance of him scoring it as he is playing with confidence as shown by how well he took his goal last week. Even though I don't think at 2-0 the game would have been over it would have given us a great chance to take the 3 points and it could end up being the final in a string of poor managerial decisions made by our 4 managers this season that ends up taking us down.Hewin wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 3:13 pm Fair points from Sam in all honesty.

Like Cjay says it is easy money for Sam and whilst yes I am sure he would like to pocket the extra money by keeping us up you wonder how much of himself he is actually giving if he hasn't even bothered to look at our penalty taking and you would expect a few players to be taking a few penalties in training. If it hadn't been Rodrigo I wonder if Greenwood would have fancied it.
