Next Manager

My newsfeed on Google reported that the board are planning to appoint a new manager in the coming weeks - weeks FFS, it all looks so we'll planned out. Hope the report is wrong, but the way things work out for us, it'll be later rather than sooner.

How can we hire a coach/manager when we have no DoF in place?
DoFs are the ones that look long term and recruit the manager.

Within that suggested shortlist it is reasonable to expect that some if not all of the nominations have gone on holiday - presumably they will all need to be interviewed before a decision can be made. Now any board with a clear idea of a strategy will have started this process weeks ago - like Southampton did.
If the board were undecided on whether SA was staying - that speaks volumes for the lack of decision makers.
Quite simply they could have told SA if you keep us up - then X
If we get relegated - then X.
The outcomes are not difficult and could have been unequivocal.

I can't believe the lack of forward planning. Mind you if our immediate history is anything to go by, I guess it's pretty standard practice for us.

We're not in the 60's 70's anymore when it was a simple game of manager pesters owner for money to buy players he wants or taps them up in a smokey tap room.

The 'simple' game has become more corporate entertainment and yet less physical.

Gone are the days of the likes of Revie massaging his own players too.

I may be delusional according to Kinnear but it has to be Rogers or Potter for me. Radz and his merry small band of men should be well aware of trying to fudge it with sub-standard managers...It doesn't work...if Radz is serious about getting back to the PL next season then use a substantial part of our budget and go and sell a dream to one of them. We see it with Bielsa, a good coach gets the best out of the players at his disposal.

They are the type of manager who would command respect and attract the right players. Everybody knows, we tasted it again under Marcelo, get this club firing on all cylinders and there is nowhere like it anywhere in England. If that doesn't get the juices flowing of potential managers then they are in football for the wrong reasons. Its not that our expectations are too high. Its the fact that we have been beaten down by poor ownership for far too long. We are the Cream get churning!

Big difference is that Southampton knew they were releagted a couple of weeks before the end of the season so knew what division they would be in. If they had stayed up would they have appointed the manager they did? Also the process there wasn't complicated by a potential takeover going on in which the different parties involved may want different managers.

I saw Graham Potter in action at the Amex a couple of times prior to his leaving. I was impressed with the way he was able to swap players during the game to change Brighton's formation in order to deal with problems the opposition were causing. He strikes me as a thoughtful coach and I'd be more than happy if he was appointed. Can't see it though, sadly.

Not convinced on Potter.

Clearly has something about him but flopped at Chelsea

May be better suited to a smaller club?

Besides Leicester want him, they actually have an owner who cares for a start and can actually make plans.
