Happy yes. We'll see. This is a b/c team and they seem to be growing into the tournament. It's an indication of improved depth in the player pool.

The backroom team for Marsch was a really strange one. It was like he came in with no friends or established co-workers.

100% with you on this. As a manager you need coaches, you need some buffer between you and the players. i don't think it is any coincidence that our youngsters, including the ones brought in for relatively big money, Gyabi, Perkins, Greenwood etc, have not improved in the last couple of years. Previously we had players that were likely nowhere near as good but they were being coached so that when they came into the first team they didn't look out of place, the coaching was improving them, even if they were never going to be brilliant.

Orta's policy of buying talented youth was stupid given that our coaching was, and still is, so mediocre.

It will be interesting to see significant improvement from our young lads, particularly Joffy once our new coaching team instil their ideas into our players heads. Also applies to those we retain who played in the Premier League last season, we have some decent players who were being poorly coached.

Leeds United vice chairman Paraag Marathe said he was impressed by new manager Daniel Farke's "leadership and plan to guide us back to the Premier League".

Former Norwich City boss Farke will be assisted by Eddie Riemer, with Christopher John and Chris Domogalla also joining his coaching team having previously worked together at the Canaries.

Marathe said: "After a thorough recruitment process, we are excited to confirm Daniel’s appointment as our first-team manager.

"His record in the Championship is clear, and I am impressed by his leadership and plan to guide us back to the Premier League.

"We welcome Daniel and his staff to the club and look forward to a strong season."

Leeds host Cardiff City in their opening Championship game of the season on Sunday, 6 August.

In Daniel Farke, Leeds United have turned to a man who has won promotion in two of his three seasons managing in English football's second tier as they look to avoid another lengthy spell outside the top flight.

Marcelo Bielsa ended their 16-year exile from the Premier League in 2020 as champions, and the legendary Argentine then led them to a ninth-placed finish in 2020-21.

However, they struggled the following season and Bielsa was replaced by Jesse Marsch in February, and Leeds survived relegation thanks to a final-day win at Brentford.

After a summer which saw influential players Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips depart for Barcelona and Manchester City respectively, they made an encouraging start last season with seven points from their first three league games.

They were unable to keep this going and Marsch was sacked on 5 February and eventually replaced by former Watford boss Javi Gracia on a deal until the end of the season.

The Spaniard won three of his first six league matches, but after a run of four defeats in five he was sacked with four games remaining, as the board gambled on veteran Sam Allardyce to try to help them away from danger.

It was not to be, though, as Leeds won just one point from those four matches and were relegated on the last day after a dismal 4-1 home defeat by Tottenham.

Daniel Farke cuts a genial figure when close up sitting around a table interviewing him as the new Leeds United manager for the first time.

He has a humility infused with a deep confidence and candid realism.

He knows what it takes to ensure promotion from the Championship - the toughest of all leagues he says - but you soon realise that having done that twice with Norwich City, the challenge Farke has set himself and the club is to become established in the Premier League.

Over the course of the four-year deal he has signed at Elland Road, the 46-year-old must feel he will have tools - which he admits were missing at Carrow Road - to go up and stay up in the top flight.

The club did not need selling to the German, who revealed the only convincing he required was that "all of the key people were on the same page - the owners, the board and all the people in the sporting department".

The San Francisco 49ers Enterprises takeover is not yet ratified by the English Football League, but Farke can see enough of the picture to take on the role regardless.

With enough trust established in those above him, Farke is eager to do the same with his charges - starting with appealing to their "heads and hearts" to recreate a winning mentality.

This is the bit i like the most and has me hoping again - Fcking hoping again !....I though i'd got rid of fcking 'hoping' we've got the right man to guide us back up !

Anyway, this......

New Leeds manager Daniel Farke talking to BBC Radio Leeds' Adam Pope about the job that lies ahead of him: "I'm really happy to be here. Feeling grateful and humble to work for such an amazing club.

"It's my deep belief that we are all professionals in this business and for that you have to work hard.

"To be there you must have top-class fitness - especially in the toughest league in the world. The Premier League is the best league in the world but the Championship is the toughest.

"You need to have an outstanding fitness level and we have to work on it, especially during pre-season. It's a short pre-season, but all through the year we will work hard.

"It's not just about hard work, it's all to enjoy what you're doing and to create a special philosophy. I don't like to speak too much about it - for me, it's more important to see it on the pitch.

"That will be one topic - to be pretty quick in order to reach the hearts of the players, to build a unity, to build a group and this is what we'll work on and hopefully do our fans proud."

Farke appointment 'shows sensible decision-making'

BBC Radio Leeds' Adam Pope discussing the appointment of Daniel Farke on the latest episode of Don't Go To Bed Just Yet: "Of all the people they could have gone for, I think this is a really good choice."

BBC Radio Leeds sports editor Jonny Buchan responded: "I got a little bit worried the 49ers might have been dazzled by Patrick Viera - his links with being in the MLS before and obviously he's just a bigger name in football in general.

"I think the fact they've gone down this path instead shows they've looked at it from a more reasoned view and gone: 'A guy who's won promotion twice from the league we're going to be in is probably a better bet than the name of Patrick Viera.'

"That shows sensible decision-making."

Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix added: "It feels very, very sensible. Very practical.

"Not trying to pluck someone from another league who's done all right and who might be a cheap option for the future, but someone's who's practical and done it before.

"I'm feeling very positive."

Btw, what's Farkes preferred formation 4-3-3 ?

Sounds promising.

Suppose we'll have to see what 'tools' he can - choose from, sharpen or dispose of first and foremost.

Dya fancy taking a stab/guess at a team you'd like to see, guessing on what he might be able to work with and guessing who might be here for the start ?

James - Perkins - Joffy up front ? This being the Championship ? or - Sinisterra - Bamford - Summerville ?

Ayling/Drameh ?...Wober - Cooper - Koch - Cresswell ?......Fck Firpo off

Try Gyabi ?

Too many unknowns i feel re incoming/ outgoing.

Think there is little point predicting for at least a couple of weeks until we see who comes in and who farkes off.

I agree Kenny. We just don't yet know what we'll have. Been looking at the squad and trying to figure out who will be with us on opening day. Here is my best snapshot. Everything is subject to change. This based on the idea that DF prefers a 4-2-3-1 system.

Drameh----------------------Cresswell---------------------------Wober--------------------------Hjelde

----------------------------------Gyabi-------------------------------Dallas---------------------------------------

Players will only leave Leeds if a Premier League/European club puts in a bid for them.

I can't envisage twelve to fifteen of last season's first team squad leaving our club.

All the players supposedly on the move is pure speculation right now!
