Well you try saying “Jonjo Shelvey” and not use an Irish accent. It’s impossible. So it is. To be sure

Decent player IMO and we could do worse! Good backup and can play when Gray is rested etc. Could be good in this league...

We obviously played Leeds at St James' Park about a month ago now, and that Rodrigo fella was in the middle,' he said.
'He was meant to be playing centre midfield and he was just all over the place.
'I said to him, "geez can you just stand still for one minute, because you're just running around like a nutcase."
'Some of it was just pointless running as well, and he goes, "I must do, I must do, my manager says I must do".'
And, having described Rodrigo's lung-bursting work rate, Shelvey went on to conclude: 'I couldn't play for Leeds.'
Guess he must have been referring to murderball and a strict fitness regimen

He will play anywhere if we offer him games. He won't get them at the Florists...Sean_Nile wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 1:59 pm straight from the horse's mouth

Re: Jonjo Shelvey Linked
I'd take shelvey, hasn't got the legs for a full 90 minutes but neither has greenwood who is 10 yrs younger, shelvey would offer much needed experience a bit like klich would, it is probably only rumour as we are continually linked with every player on the market, same as our players are linked with leaving, although most of ours are true.
Shelvey would be a great addition.

He pings a good ball but is a luxury player. Poor workrate.

Id have him. A bit of a streetfighter at times
Tough DM who also has something that not one member of our side has.
A long shot
Has many great attributes as a player
Pity his wages would be an issue

I wouldn't be againt Shelvey at all. I don't know a great deal about him but he has the ability to play some good passes from anywhere on the pitch, take a good free kick and also shoot from distance. Last season when we played Forest they brought him on and he played some cracking long passes from deep. In a double pivot type system he could be a perfect fit, Ampadu winning the ball, playing it to him and he knocks the ball ala KP.
He's always had a bit of edge about him, the nasty sort of player you don't want to see in the opposition team. If Farke wants him then that is good enough for me because Farke knows exactly what he needs in his system.

Unfortunately, we have to take who is available! Shelvey, for me, would be a good signing especially if we get him in on loan...BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 4:36 pm We are not a retirement home for washed up footballers. We can do better than Shelvey...

He's a big lump who is way past his sell by date but he's a leader and the way we play with lots of possession it may just work in the Championship? He's also aggressive and will take most dead ball situations. Not the creative spark i was hoping for but we are running out of time. If he comes in then maybe try Archie at 10

I think many fans would have described Strachan and Pablo as washedup footballers prior to them signing for us. Likely back when 64 was a spritely young pensioner they were saying the same thing about Bobby Collins.BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 4:36 pm We are not a retirement home for washed up footballers. Shelvey's legs have long since gone and as his 35 games injured in 2 seasons the rest of him is following suit.weasel wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 2:59 pm I wouldn't be againt Shelvey at all. He is a shadow of the player he was 3 or 4 years ago (and he was on the decline then) never mind 6,7 years ago when he was actually decent.
Would imo signal desperate because aside from all that he has never ever been a pressing player before his legs went.
Can pick a pass and put in a tackle but slow and injury prone now.
