Not the time for projects unfortuantely Paul. We need a mix and the likes of this guy would help balance the squad.

Just to be clear on this Weasel. It's not about the player's age. Pablo had plenty of gas left in the tank. It's just about his trajectory. Shelvey has not looked good in a long time. His legs are gone.

I understand you point of view Ian. I just disagree with regard to Shelvey. Cheers!

Only we are, bamford, cooper and forshaw off top of my swede, not to mention those who are much younger that never made it, shelvey has the experience and could be a cracking addition in Farkes plans.

Ayling's another mate.

Shelvey ain't the best on the planet, he's slow, but he can run play, has good passing ability, can shoot and score and take set pieces.

With runners and fit lads around him he's more than good enough for this level. We could do a lot worse imo.

Aye but Luke has another season in him and isn't as injury prone as the other lot

He's not injury prone mate and wears his heart on his sleeve for us.

But nowhere near good enough.

He should have been put out to grass years ago, got rinsed every week last season. Defensive liability, I'd rather play Drameh, or Byram at right back.

The bar is so low for us it's not funny.

He was a rapid winger but the player we got was one that had had to adapt as he'd lost his pace. In his first or second season here lots of fans on here felt he couldn't play 2 games a week and advocated dropping him in away games.

I haven't seen Shelvey much in the last couple of years. He has always seemed to do well against us, 2 seasons back scoring the winner for NEwcastle against us and then last season for Forest pinging the ball around as Forest went long against us.

This concept of writing players off after they top 30 is so Football Manager it is hard to believe

I think Shelvey and Gray could work in an attacking midfield role. Gray slightly more advanced picking up the passes from Shelvey and pushing the team forward.

Shelvey is pretty good at set pieces too.

Decent gamble for us IMO.

Lewis O’Brien is a better fit all round. We have enough lame ducks of our own.

First time I have noticed this thread.
Shelvey linked - Some pace in midfield will be very handy plus he is pretty tidy on the ball.

This is the type of signing that i don't want us to make, just does zero for me.

What wages would he expect.

If he was announced today, it wouldn't reet bother me, but it doesn't at all float my boat, i'd look at it like - He might work out for a year getting us up there challenging if he gives 100%.

He’s a good competitor and I never liked us playing against him. He always seemed to make stuff happen for the opposition.

Would be nice to have that on our team. Depends on fee and wages. He could be the key that helps the whole come together this season.

Thinking beyond this (and maybe a second) season in the championship is a luxury and we’ve already got enough projects. He can impact now. I’d say get him.

That’s what we want for me, whatever happens once we get promoted we can sort then.

That's my thinking.

We know virtually none of these are good enough now for the Prem, but 1 job at a time suppose and regroup.

i think we need another Gordon Strachan he was early 30s when he signed for Leeds but was one of the best signings the club ever made.
