Your team for Millwall
OK, we know who's in the squad now, we also have 15 days till our next league match which should bring everyone up to speed. My best guess right now is no Dallas, Cooper or Bamford. Possibility of Firpo and Byram so posters choice if included
Think I'd go

Ampadu

Summerville
Kamara
Piroe
Gnonto
Anthony
Rutter

We'll have to wait and see how many get injured on international duty first, we could be 3/4 players wide of the mark otherwise.
On another note , I heard today that Stuart Dallas has said he won't come back as a player but wants to do a coaching role, anyone else heard this ?

It wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t come back. He has been out now for the best part of 18 months - complication after complication in his recovery. If he does return it will be a miracle if he is anything like his old self.mentalcase wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 8:18 pm We'll have to wait and see how many get injured on international duty first, we could be 3/4 players wide of the mark otherwise.

Not sure why Gray moves to the bench. He has been very consistent and we haven’t seen anything of Kamara yet to suggest he starts before him. Whilst it is unrealistic to expect Gray to play week in week out Kamara needs to earn his place in the starting 11. He will probably be away on international duty for a large part of the break so it may effect his ability to bed in.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 7:34 pm OK, we know who's in the squad now, we also have 15 days till our next league match which should bring everyone up to speed. The same applies to Anthony. James has done nothing wrong and played well when he has been in the team. His pace on the break will be very effective against a rather ponderous Millwall defence.
However, if Anthony is a consistently good set piece taker then his inclusion would make sense.
Spence for Ayling does not bother me in the slightest. His recovery pace, which is what we have lacked for god knows how long on both flanks is essential in DF’s system. Shacks is doing a great job on the left and may take some budging.
We created enough good chances to win against Wednesday, all this talk of needing a proper 10 would have legs if we weren’t creating anything. Although having goals from midfield is what we have missed for a couple of seasons.
Rutter on the bench is a good weapon for later in the game against tired legs.
I assume that in your starting 11 Struijk will be captain ? Might be too early for him to show/prove his leadership credentials. Away at Millwall is a baptism of fire in this league. ( The Salford game is not comparative )

Wtf is PB's injury 'supposed' to be this time anyhoos ? Twisted ear ?
Reet, yours truly knows the team already if fit.
Spence is in for Ayling (i liked what i saw yesterday) he'll get caught out himself, but jeez he seems to have some skills abart him.
And i'm afraid Archie will be dropped for Kamara, he'll also be playing Anthony in place of Rutter and will shake the frontish 4 abart.
You heard it here first folks, no need
Oh, and Sam will be back in.

The same recovery speed that saw Spence get a foot in shortly after coming on and averting a goal? Yes, much more of that please.DDB220 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 9:48 am Not sure why Gray moves to the bench. With the more fluid front four we've seen, most notably in the two matches featuring Piroe in which the approach was the most effective, I think we can see the approach that DF may take moving forward, of course barring injuries amongst those four and the odd substitution/switch on the wings. As he mentioned post match, Piroe likes to come from deeper, at least in his time at Swansea, so he seems the most natural in the 10, but interchanging some with Rutter at the 9. Taking this approach and adapting to whichever team we face could work well.

Don't want to burn out Gray too early, yes I know international break but I'd also feel that getting the new first teamers game time to see what we have.DDB220 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 9:48 am Not sure why Gray moves to the bench. Agree we don't need a ten, we have creativity in spades and even Raph and Pablo struggled to create against park the bus teams. Every team does unless you get an early goal.
I think, as our corner and FK takers are appalling (no clue why, its a basic skill,) getting a look at Anthony is also key. That's the issue with depth, James has done nothing wrong but finds himself on the bench. As will a number of should be starters imo.

Absolutely appalling, like you say "it's a basic skill" it really isnt difficult at all to put a good ball in, even amateurs have little problems with it, what do they do in training ?The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 11:24 am Don't want to burn out Gray too early, yes I know international break but I'd also feel that getting the new first teamers game time to see what we have.

There's zero chance Gnonto and Summerville will be on the bench unless they're injured.

Re: Your team for Millwall
Very simple (a) he was in the top 3 scorers in the championship last season (b) he was asked by DF to play as a number 10 to allow Rutter to play as a number 9. Piroe is a number 9GreennWhite wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 6:43 pm Why do you still have Piroe in your team ? He`s a forward who played yesterday and did not score ?

Spence Rodon Struijk (c) Byrum
Summerville Ampadu Gray Shackleton
Piroe Gnonto
Bench: Darlow, Cresswell, Ayling, Poveda, Gruev, Kamara, Anthony, Rutter, James
A few notes:
- put it down as 4-4-2 just for convenience - boss may decide otherwise, given how training goes in the next 2 weeks, and how he assesses Millwall.
- Kamara, not yet fully match fit - so comes off the bench for me.
- Debated Anthony in for Gray - but decided that again went with form we know. Anthony to earn his place.

With it been Scumwall, I'd start with a heavy bombing, couple of Eurofighter Typhoons, followed by the Paras with some heavy machine gun cover and finally the SAS to pick off any stragglers, definitely take no prisoners and bury the lot where they fall, and finally torch the ground for good measure.
The old 2, 2,000, 30 formation.

Re: Your team for Millwall
Who can name the 18 players that left ??
Relief must have been Daniel Farke’s overriding feeling when he woke up on Saturday morning. The Leeds United boss had endured a late evening on Friday as he saw Luis Sinisterra finally get his move back to the Premier League, with a loan move to Bournemouth.
Jaidon Anthony came the other way, of course, and Farke is excited to see what the Londoner can add to his side. But, he will have been delighted to see the back of a testing and gruelling summer window, in which has seen his first-team squad completely transformed.
A staggering 18 players left the club, either on loan or permanently, while nine came in with Farke attempting to make his mark on the group. With his squad complete, then, until January that is, what is United’s strongest starting XI?
Goalkeeper: Illan Meslier
The Frenchman got the nod from Farke at the beginning of the season, despite the arrival of Karl Darlow, and he has more than looked the part so far. Meslier was expected to leave this summer by many after what was a difficult campaign last time around, but he’s taken the arrival of the German as an opportunity to turn over a new leaf and he seems to be growing in confidence once more.
The presence of Darlow will be enough to keep him on his toes, but Meslier will be keen to build on his early season momentum and after picking up his first clean sheet since February last weekend, he’s clearly moving in the right direction.
Defence: Djed Spence, Joe Rodon, Liam Cooper, Sam Byram
On the face of it, it seems Djed Spence has been brought into the club to take the right-back reins. The Tottenham Hotspur loanee managed to show what he was about during his cameo in the final 10 minutes of the clash with Sheffield Wednesday and while Luke Ayling has fared reasonably well in the role over the last couple of weeks, most would expect to see that change made sooner rather than later.
Joe Rodon looks the obvious call for right-sided centre-back, but the left centre-back spot looks a little trickier to select with both Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk vying for selection when the skipper is fit. Cooper, who isn’t expected to return to action until next month, probably edges it for the leadership he offers, particularly given Ayling’s absence.
That’s not to say Struijk has struggled to perform, far from it, but it’s a tough choice and one must be left disappointed. Sam Byram gets the nod at left-back when fit, having done enough to convince in that role over the last month or so.
Midfield: Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara
At this early stage Ampadu has to go down as Leeds’ signing of the summer. The Wales international has got his time at Elland Road off to an outstanding start and he’s already becoming something of a crowd favourite, due to his quality and composed performances in the middle of the park.
He starts regardless, then, but with Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev arriving to compete with Archie Gray, it seems Farke has a decision to make. Gray has been wonderful in the heart of midfield so far, showcasing his remarkable talent and ability by stepping into the senior fold without breaking his stride.
However, the experience of Kamara might just be preferred in the bigger games this season and the Finland international looks capable of taking on the number eight role alongside Ampadu.
Front four: Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto, Jaidon Anthony; Joel Piroe.
When everyone is fit Leeds really do have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to attacking talent. Dan James, Georginio Rutter, Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt are amongst those to miss out here, but that depth off the bench could well be the difference in some key games throughout the Championship campaign.
