Personally, I’m watching our penalty count this season. We could have had 2 or 3 already and because, judging by what we’ve seen so far, we will spend a lot of time in and around the oppositions penalty box, we should end up with more than most by the end of the season. It won’t be the case, of course, for reasons I’ve mentioned previously in my capacity as this forum’s conspiracy theorist, but, the way we play, we should be towards the top of the penalty charts not towards the bottom. We’ll see!
Ian, I don’t think it was particularly a wise move as our owners had no choice but to accept the loan situation. I’m pretty sure that, had it not been for the ridiculous loan clauses, the majority of those who wanted out (or we didn’t want) would have been sold for as much as we could get, to bring money in immediately in order to pay for replacements and keep the ffp situation squared up.

This time last year - just to cheer you up.
After 5 games last season, we had 8 points and were sitting 7th in the Premier League table.
Didn’t think then that we would get 23 more points in the next 33 games
Wow the wheels really came off in grand style

Cut ur losses and feckin leg it.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:41 pm I've heard that argument several times. It doesn't make sense.
We're going to make a total loss on Koch because his contract expires. If he didn't have the loan clause, we could have sold him and at least recovered some of what we spent. Same argument with Drameh.
We're going to make a full loss on anyone whose contract is running down. And anyone who only has 2 years left - they'll be in their last year when they come back.
It makes some sense for players with plenty of time left. People like Harrison and Aaronson. They could come back and get decent transfer fees.
But with pothers like Llorente we've probably lost a lot of potential money.
Still being proven right years on.

Yeah I know what you mean, I was looking at it from the angle of seeing that loan clauses were already in place then the wisest thing to do was to follow the logic of using them. Like you I would have been happier if they didn't exist.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:41 pm I've heard that argument several times. It doesn't make sense.

Now though, it is all about financial flexibility
Koch was purchased for £13M and we were spared paying his wages plus received a small loan fee of near 500k. So we realised in effect £.1.5M for FFP sakes, from an interested clubs angle why but when you can bring them in cheap?
LLorente saves us £1.17M on wages but will still have a resale value
Similar amounts for the other 5 first teamers, it frees up funds that help us move in the market, that is way more important at this time than anything else, in fact if those players had been sold all would have been for a loss, now we have kicked the can down the road at least until next season. Really all we need is for us to hit the jackpot with one of them in that they get a big bid.
The gamble is that they enhance their reputations and warrant transfer interest but like most things in this game that is the unknown.
But now we have a strong squad with players Farke wants and who are motivated to work hard, plus we have went a long way to keeping the FFP wolves from the door
