you all realise most players we've signed this season would probably do the same if we got relegated to league one this year...right? It's usually nothing personal but a lot of these players are in the peak of their careers and some have international careers to think about...it's nothing bad to want to play in a top league

everybody screaming for ampadu to be made captain - you think he'll stay with us if we go down to league one?! you think piroe, our new no. 9 , would drop down to league one for a season with us - of course not!

Exactly. If the players that left us had stayed and had a poor season with us then their reputations go down and likely when they make their next permanent move their chances of getting a good move diminish and likely they would get offered a far lower wage. They are likely on the best contract of their careers and are quite rightly earning as move as they can whilst they can.

Never be forgiven?
If he ends up back at Leeds (unlikely) and plays well and scores goals, the reason he left, which NONE of us know the ins and outs of it, would be forgotten by most.

Here’s a thought … don’t have another poor season. And if you do it’s probably a good sign that you’re on the wages you deserve.

These players tend to forget they are responsible for taking us down to the championship.

Footballers have no honesty, bottle or heart, these days.

It wasn’t just the players that took us down it was the whole set up.

Last season was chaos and shambolic. If you worked in a shambolic workplace can you honestly say that you would give it your all knowing that regardless of what happens you can escape at the end of the year. I don’t blame any of them for jumping ship. Personally, whilst I love the game I do not develop any level of expectation or invest any level of attachment with the players - the club is all that matters.

The sad truth is most of them should never have been here in the first place. I am more inclined to be grateful that they pissed off. If they have good seasons and can improve the side upon their return that is fine by me. However, there is only one or two capable of that.

Loyalty in elite level team sport is just a fallacy.
Some long lost quality that hasn’t existed for a very long time bar in a few very isolated cases.
Now with the Saudi league expect players to disappear sooner rather than later.

weasel wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 7:22 pm Big difference though is that it likely wouldn't have been a huge amount more, there simply wasn't as much money in the game. So why would you leave the team where you have had success, leave your mates, uproot your family, go to a team that might not play a way that suits you etc for something that might be the equivalent of say £20 a week more in today's money?

It wasn't just Leeds I bet there were probably only a couple of players on average moving from each club per season back then.

You just need to look back to the early 90s to see how different the game was when we were able to get players to drop down a division because we could offer them significantly more than they were on. Could you imagine a Gordon Strachan dropping down a division to join us now?
I agree it was different times and one thing Lorimer said was that then clubs held all the cards in those days.

I do think one of the main differences is the involvement of agents, who will drive a wedge between the player and the club, team mates and fans, for there own aims.

I mean, as another poster said, it wasn't due just to the players

the squad and recruitment obviously wasn't good enough e.g., crying out for a striker, we sign rutter...

Like I wouldn't say sinisterra was at fault for us going down, he was great when he played, same with wober. Llorente was out on loan...harrison was also a great servant to the club for a number of years despite getting a load of fan abuse (from me included)

Other than an injury prone Sinistera I wouldn’t want any off them back because they are not good enough.

How are they going to add to a side hopefully promoted when they were responsible for taking us down in the first place.

Yes. It’s called personal integrity. Sadly lacking in today’s world. You’d like to think that at least a couple of them could look the 8 year old kid in the eye, the one whose dad works 6 days a week in a factory to afford to buy his son a Leeds shirt, and say “I gave my all for you and this club.”

Sky TV and the premier League changed it all and it's gradually got worse over the years as the money as flooded in to the game transfer fees and wages have become obscene
Prices for tickets have taken the game away from the average working man
The days of players with the ability of say matt.le tissier staying at a club like Southampton all their career are long gone

Anyone voting for Sinisterra to return should listen to Kinnear's interview

Not a chance he comes back

Not a chance of returning, thankfully

Why would we want to hold onto mercenaries who threatened to take LUFC to court?

Hopefully, we'll attract the highest fee possible for Sinisterra and send him on his merry way to join up with the rest of the parasites whom have infiltrated football over the last few decades.

Fans want dedication but when you get a player like say Ayling who probably, at least in the context of modern football, exemplifies that they want him gone asap.
