Re: Joel Piroe - Excellent debut.
Millwall (a)
Good
7 ball recoveries
2 decent passes
2 shots on target
2 goals
2 held-up the ball
2 runs
2 attacking headers won
1 dummy in build-up for his goal
1 blocked shot
Bad
2 lost possession
1 poor pass
Playing in a No.7 shirt, as a No.10, scoring goals like a No.9 ..... Impressive

He could become our best buy so far this season! We need a prolific striker,

Re: Joel Piroe
Joel Piroe--not only scoring goals and dragging defenders out of position, but playing the role of sage mentor (from BBC West Yorkshire Sport interview):
“I wouldn’t say teaching but yes we are talking a lot about football,” he said. “He is a great lad and is open to have a chat about it as well. I think I am close to 100 Championship games now and I can give him a little bit of experience for the league to bring and what it needs. He’s very open to have that conversation.”
I know Ampadu was a steal, but with Piroe and Rutter's bro-mance, he's got to be right up there as well in terms of value for the pounds paid

Re: Joel Piroe
I'm convinced that part of DF's criteria for the players he wanted in, or to keep, was a real hunger to play and prove themselves. Just look at Ampadu and his loans spells prior to us, in those loans he was no where near the player and leader he's been in the last seven matches.
Then Rutter mentioning last week he wants to basically justify his price tag after his showing last season.
Then this today from Piroe in his pre-match presser:
"Well, I didn’t play really for the play-offs or directly for promotion and that’s one thing I needed to check off for myself, I think. Also being able to play a lot in the Premier League.
“It’s a big decision to make if you want to jump there [into the Premier League]. Or try to get promoted with someone and earn your spot in the team first.”
Piroe could have gone to somewhere like Everton, but wants to earn his place.
That's the kind of attitude that will serve us well this season.

Re: Joel Piroe
Much like the Wendies game yesterday totally passed him by.
2 shots neither on target, 0 chances created.
Wasnt even like the Sheffield Wednesday game where it was obvious he was far to deep (heat maps showed that day he was on the halfway way line most).
Vs Hull it shows he is where you'd expect a 10 to be, between midfield and defence.
But whilst his passing was accurate it was safe which isn't what a 10 should be, no through balls attempted, just short safe passes.
It still feels to me like he should at the very least be rotating with Rutter, they should alternate between the 2 roles throughout the game (as they did well vs Millwall)
Sticking Piroe at 10 only feels like it isn't going to get the best out of him.
I said when we signed him he was closer to a Dennis Bergkamp type than a Wout Weghorst. Still think that is true but Bergkamp wasn't camped in the same position all game.
Farke needs to give Piroe more freedom or Rutter and Piroe need to develop a better understanding.
I think though his less than dynamic work rate may mean he doesn't play up top much.

I mentioned at halftime that it was all too static. And I called Piroe out by name for his lack of movement.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 2:26 pm Much like the Wendies game yesterday totally passed him by.

Neither he nor Georginio are a real #10 or a real #9. They are both something different. I agree that they will only be effective by using coordinated patterns of movement and playing off each other. That's going to take some time. But we saw the possibilities against Millwall.
If it all comes right they could be devastating in this division.

Re: Joel Piroe
I think what is unique is their contrasting skill sets, including their different physical builds. Add to it that they seem to genuinely get on with one another and they could be a truly deadly duo terrorizing the Championship (and even beyond).BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:19 pm I mentioned at halftime that it was all too static. Re: Joel Piroe
May seem a small thing on the surface, but even these three words of encouragement can resonate with a young player:
"Taking to social media site Instagram to celebrate the win, Rutter posted: '+3. Big win, clean sheet. Thanks for the Amazing support.'
Among those commenting on the post was his teammate Piroe, who wrote: 'My little brother.'"
To be honest, I think Piroe's influence on Georgi is one of the big reasons he's coming into his own.

Watford (h)
Good
7 decent passes
3 chances created
3 ball recoveries
1 shots on target
1 goal

1 run
1 excellent pass
1 decent cross
1 offensive header
Bad
2 lost possession
1 awful shot over the bar
Scored a tap-in we haven't been scoring for two seasons. Great having a big man
upfront.

Re: Joel Piroe
Is a possible Rodrigo first season under Bielsa scenario appearing here a bit?
A great finisher Piroe but his pressing leads a lot to be desired.
I wonder if that is impacting the whole structure.
Not to bad when we dominate the ball but games like today it's noticeable.

We desperately need a Lee Chapman type of a player.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 3:17 pm Is a possible Rodrigo first season under Bielsa scenario appearing here a bit?

Re: Joel Piroe
Not sure about that.
But think we do need to be dominating the ball and winning it back high.
Don't think setting up as Farke did 1st half suits Piroe at all in the role he is being asked to play and it leaves us open to being overrun in midfield.
If Farke wants to play like this away from home he may need to drop Piroe imo.

Re: Joel Piroe
Statistically Chapman was a success for us but boy did I hate watching him play. I'd rather have a Viduka or Hasselbaink

Re: Joel Piroe - Excellent debut.
Southampton (a)
Good
2 decent passes
1 interception
1 ball recoveries
1 run
1 turn/swivel & nice control
Bad
3 lost possession
2 chances missed
2 poor passes
1 weak shot saved
1 poor control of the ball after Rutter had threaded a sublime past to Joe
Hardly involved in the game.
2/10 Piroe's low rating is probably more than he deserved. Bad day at the office!

Re: Joel Piroe
Took his goal very well.
Really intelligent finish.
Was unlucky the keeper denied him 1st half as well.
Still doesn't look entirely comfortable in this role, he doesn't create anything which is required for that role (no chances created yesterday) but Georgie is so aslong as one of them does and one of them is finishing then the partnership is working I suppose.
I'd still like to see him in the box more though as he is clearly the best finisher at the squad.

Re: Joel Piroe
We supposedly had the best forward line in the division a few weeks ago , yet we can't hit a barn door most of the time
We have lost sinisterra, Summerville as become far too greedy with the ball and is blowing hot and cold, and Rutter and piroe are been played on each ohers positions gnonto of course is still currently injured
Let's hope farke can get the formula right and start upping the goal tally quickly , because we can't rely on this defence to keep a clean sheet every week

Bristol City (h)
Good
6 decent passes
2 attacking headers
2 shots saved
2 excellent passes
1 interception
1 run
1 defensive header
1 defensive clearance
1 held up the ball
1 goal
Bad
1 lost possession
1 poor passes
Summary
Good to see Joel more involved in this game. My view was in front of Piroe when he lined up to shoot, it was in from the moment it left his boot. Five goals in eight games, hopefully another 25 on the way, if he maintains his scoring rate up throughout this season.

Not that we'll get any anyway, but I presume he will be the designated penalty taker? Just as long as you know who isn't on the pitch when we finally get one.
