Agreed. He's been excellent and a bit of an unsung hero with the likes of Rutter, Summerville, Rodon taking all the plaudits.
That tackle that lead to the third goal was outstanding.

I was watching for something DF might be doing, and after last night i'm now pretty sure he is, and it's quietly gone unnoticed and is a big contributing factor in our defensive shake up and led to more clean sheets and less goals conceded.

Byram is getting forward intelligently and timely, which is making the majority of our play and i think i'm right in saying our goals - come from the left.

Now this is a master stroke from DF is so. So he tells Byram to get forward as much as possible, supporting Jimmy and Rutter and creating havoc down that side along with Piroe joining in also.

Ayling was getting too far forward on his side and struggling to get back and we seemed to be getting exploited, so, he introduces Gray, but his orders are for all our main play to come from the left side, and when that happens, Pascal Rodon and Gray become more of a back 3 that slips over a bit to cover, DJ's speed then also helps out on the right for sudden breakdowns in play.

More evidence is needed, but i think that's what's happening, and why we don't see Gray flying forward like Ayling.

Without Sam Byram we'd be knackered in that LB spot.

Yes but you can see what they're thinking -

Firpo cost £13m from Barcelona, is he any good, we haven't seen much of him.
Shackleton filled in ok.
Dallas might return soon.
Who's this Hjelde bloke.
Hasn't Pascal played there anorl.
Can we bring back Taylor.
Is Barry Douglas doing owt.
Where did Borthwick go.
Have i missed anybody?

No, I can't see any of that personally, I only assume, rightly or wrongly, firpo is in the shop window, or, he's being given vital minutes to improve himself, non of the others barring maybe Shacks at a push will lake there again, infact, when Spence is fit, don't be surprised if Gray is switched over to LB in and amongst with Sam.

Oh i do hope DF is trying cleverly to get Firpo in the shop window, making out like he's a cracker in interviews and giving him 3 minutes versus Accrington Stanley likes wherever possible, tis a dream.

£75k a week !

No wonder Willie's pulling his plod !

Was immense today.

Joint most tackles (sorry didn't highlight that in Summerville thread) and most interceptions.

Linked well with Summerville down the left.

He's proven a very shrewd signing.

Fair play to him and Farke.

One or two of us did tell you his free signing was a no brainer mate 😁

True :)

But in my defence his injury record makes Forshaw look like a stalwart

That was the major concern imo

But he's been very solid physically and on pitch so far

Big difference though is that when Forshaw wasn't injured he was shite. Byram uninjured was always a class player. Was delighted when we signed him albeit I didn't really know he would do as well as he has done and on the left too. He ust seems to be a very calm player, gets on with the job, does it well, no drama, no ups and downs, performance wise, just quality every week.

A very steadying presence in our back 4 reads the game well, rarely caught out of position despite being asked to play in a very attacking manner. Hardly a surprise we miss him when he doesn't play.

We miss Byram massively, when he went off a few weeks ago at home (plymouth ??) the team collapsed, something not right that we miss a right footed left back as much as we do, it needs addressing quickly, Sam is well known for his injuries so we can't rely on him for too long and DF knows this, I'm hoping a late xmas present of a LB in January.

How good was Sam Byram at Plymouth?

Playing in his natural RB position, I thought he was superb & a driving force down the right making 4 or 5 decent runs, linking up with Gnonto really well. Defended well with too.

We had no such problems on the right as opposed to the left last night.
