Agree. Gnonto had a good run after replacing James. But James showed last game that he has something extra.

Thats a good perspective. As long as you give Dan James plenty of time. And you're correct. While Willy played really well for a few games, he's rarely offered anything off the bench.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 7:06 pm Provides more of a threat from the bench than Gnonto for me, with his pace against tiring defenders.

Geo getting back to his best is important for us tonight. If he produces his top form then it can make this tricky game a hell of a lot more comfortable.
Which Geo turns up is anyone guess.

Re: Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds Utd Match Thread
I think what's interesting about the "slow build up" vs. "direct attack" approaches is that were actually tied for first in the league with 76 direct attacks (Plymouth Argyle is who we're tied with). The other top four teams fall in this order overall:Kennyb41 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 5:55 pm It is one thing that's baffled me from DF in away games where the oppo's aren't falling for being dragged around, or closing down our defenders that are trying to bring the ball out, we waste so much time slowly knocking it about leaving oppo's to just get so easily organised, it annoys me to fck actually and has me going ape in my living room, so much my neighbours think there's a murder happening (yes, it is that bad).
I've seen occasions where our CH's have pounced forward at times (like they should and have been told) but nowhere near enough.
It takes 3 minutes of the game to realise they're not falling for it, and immediately they don't just get the ball asap up into their final third and rush them, our front 4 are a handful for any feckin defence in this league, then back them up asap with the LB, RB and an attacking ball winning Kamara and you've instantly got them on the back foot.
I've yet to see us do it away.
Tied for 4th: Leicester - 55
6th: Soton - 51
7th: Ipswich - 50
In terms of the direct attack, which in this case is considered, "...the number of open play sequences that starts just inside the team's own half and has at least 50% of movement towards the opposition's goal and ends in a shot or a touch in the opposition box," we seem to be far outpacing the other top four teams.
In terms of "build up attacks," or "...the number of open play sequences that contains 10 or more passes and either ends in a shot or has at least one touch in the box," we rank third overall:
1st: Soton - 210
2nd: Leicester - 167
3rd: Leeds - 122
8th: Ipswich - 80
Closely related to the build-up play is the number of "10+ pass sequences" we have:
1st: Soton - 775
2nd: Leicester - 726
4th: Leeds - 532
10th: Ipswich - 358
In my professional analysis (using this very loosely here), as frustrating as the sideways passes can be, the "tikik taka" football could be much worse
Would I like to see even more long balls and cross fields switches of play--yes. However, overall, based on the numbers it seems like DF is getting the balance pretty perfect, especially when compared to the other top four teams.

You have to move that to a tactics or Farke thread. Will it be a proper game of footy or one where the other team just kick the s**t out of us. I’ll go the latter.

They are going to be up for this - no idea how to call it result wise. Bannan always has a good game against us.

Geo needs to pass the ball into the net instead of slashing at his shots,
