The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 6th August) Serie A trio chasing Gnonto
Good Morning. It's Tuesday 6th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Serie A trio chasing Gnonto
Wilfried Gnonto is attracting interest from Serie A clubs Parma, Genoa, and Venezia, according to reports from Italy. There is a loan-to-buy option being considered. Despite this, Leeds will not rush to let the 20-year-old leave the club as he still has three years left on his contract. Additionally, there is a suggested 30%-40% sell-on clause payable to Zurich upon any future sale, making it not worth their while to sell him. According to YEP journalist Graham Smyth, Leeds have already rejected a £23 million offer this Summer. If it weren't for the clause, he would likely have been sold by now considering what they accepted for Summerville!
Leeds may have to double bid to land Norwich ace
Leeds have reportedly made an opening bid of £7 million for Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe according to multiple back-page reports. The Whites see him as a replacement for Crysencio Summerville. Rowe, an England U21 winger with two caps, had a successful breakthrough season at Carrow Road last time, scoring 12 goals and providing 2 assists in 32 appearances (2,053 mins). He has been praised for his pace, dribbling ability, final third movement, and versatility. However, there are concerns about his injury history and potential ego issues.
The Canaries are thought to be holding out for a higher fee, with some sources suggesting a deal could be done at around £15 million, the same amount they received for their Talisman Gabriel Sara. While Rowe has a lot of potential, Leeds need someone who can make an immediate impact to avoid another season in the Championship.
Bueno move now unlikely
Leeds may lose out on Wolves defender Hugo Bueno, as they have made it clear that they are unwilling to let the Spanish U21 International leave Molineux until they have a replacement in place!
Currently, the Whites only have three (senior) full-backs in their roster, and are in desperate need of cover, and competition for places. Bueno can play anywhere across the back-line, which very much appeals to Daniel Farke, even though you'd imagine that Max Wober would be higher up in the pecking order!
The exciting 21yo left-back has attracted attention from a host of European clubs including Feyenoord after Wolves revealed that their starlet is available on a season long loan, without an option to make the deal permanent. It has been suggested that Bueno would prefer a move to Scottish Champions Celtic, due to the lure of European football.

Willy Gnonto was heart broken at the loss of his long time mate Jimmy Summerville leaving to West Ham, and has been tempted to push though a £23M deal with Everton who are soon to open their new £600M stadium.
In the championship there is no hope of Leeds playing Premiership West Ham so a move to Everton would ensure that the two pals would meet up again in the premiership.
It has been espoused that even though the 49ers are considering major renovations at Elland road, the dilapidated state of the stadium pales in comparison to Everton's shiny new project.
It is feared that Willy will be seduced by the bright lights of Merseyside, and a renewal of his friendship with Jack Harrison.
Sean Dyche who has worked his magic to ensure Everton's survival in the premiership may strongarm the deal and seal Gnonto's move to the blue side of the Mersey.

Though only bright lights in Merseyside are the floodlights at Anfield... Rumours Everton are going to use pitch side candles this season to cut the leccy bill and ask fans to put the torches on their phones

Gnonto going would not be good. Especially if it's this week. We've not replaced Gray or Summerville yet and Willy going would leave one winger at the club. It'd likely move Geo to left wing and limit his influence imo.. He's good enough but it would weaken us going forward as Ampadu to central defence did last season

I think the whole squad is up for sale. if the right offers come in they will sell anyone, I’d certainly not be surprised if Gnonto and Rutter are both sold before the window closes - looks like the owners are preparing for a long stay in the championship rather than going full tilt for promotion.

I think Geo is unusually wired, he'll go if he's pushed but he won't want to go... Gnonto wants to test himself, get back for playing for Italy, and he needs Serie A/La Liga or the Prem for thatWhiteRose wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 9:09 am I think the whole squad is up for sale. if the right offers come in they will sell anyone, I’d certainly not be surprised if Gnonto and Rutter are both sold before the window closes - looks like the owners are preparing for a long stay in the championship rather than going full tilt for promotion.

I have to say all this talk of players getting uptight when their bessie mate leaves or wanting to be where a friend might be is stuff to be taken with a big pinch of salt. They'd be off like a shot to another club if there's an opportunity available that they fancy and bugger their friends!
Really, this constant intrigue with Gnonto - will he, does he blah, blah - is wearing. It ain't worth the hassle! There has to be a value to what he brings to the table and my personal view is that the club is bigger than the player. If he leaves then a door might open to another player to emerge.
If those Chancers at Everton can offer up money that they have not got at £25m Gnonto should be sent on his way. The Italians don't have money either.
Anyway, we won't retain all of that fee because of the sell on clause but it will be a headache worth curing

You do realise that I always present an alternative reality to the official OP... it is always fantasy and outrageous speculation dressed up in official sounding language to make it sound credible.PhoenixUnited wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 9:16 am I have to say all this talk of players getting uptight when their bessie mate leaves or wanting to be where a friend might be is stuff to be taken with a big pinch of salt.
It is rather distressing that any of it is taken as it were serious.
Perhaps I need to put in a disclaimer, or sharpen up my writing skills to make it more obvious.

I considered Everton running a cable to Anfield and stealing electricity but thought that a bit on the nose

He would be easy to recognise as he would proudly be wearing his Leeds shirt and spouting Leeds related facts to everyone.

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 6th August) Serie A trio chasing Gnonto
I don't get the logic of suggesting that the 49ers are prepared to settle for a long spell in the Championship and are therefore prepared to sell any member of the squad . Either you believe that they are businessmen intent on maxing the value of their investment which requires them to be in the Premiership or you assess them as being chancers like Bates , Cellino and that bunch from Saudi . To my mind bearing in mind the strategic way they approached the purchase and the level of investment in players they made last summer indicates they want the Premiership ASAP . Nearly all of the disposals and contract run outs this year indicate a reshaping of the squad dictated by the Manager with 2 major exceptions namely Gray and Summerville .Both players had exit clauses which were exercised and both were almost pure profit which significantly improves the Club's compliance with financial regulations. The major test will be now that the finances are balanced , the wage bill reshaped and the major imponderable resolved how the club goes about recruitment to complete the squad reshaping . At least one full back (preferably with the capacity to play in more than one position), one midfield(assuming Crew will make the squad ?) and a goalscoring winger. It's a tall order to replace Summerville but if we can keep him Gnonto if he gets a good start is ready to take the Championship by storm playing down the left. Both Rutter and Joseph looked impressive at times in pre-season footage so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Perhaps the club are looking for kudos, refusing a £23m bid for Gnonto.
In reality, it makes them look even more foolish for accepting £26m (plus add ons) for Summerville
