Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thursday 8th August) Leeds told they must splash the cash to land Ljubicic

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Thursday 8th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Leeds told they must splash the cash to land Ljubicic

Leeds Utd have been told they must splash the cash if they want to sign Köln midfielder Dejan Ljubičić. The versatile 26yo is highly thought of by Die Geißböcke (the Billy Goats), and prepared to see him move next Summer for nothing, rather than accept £3.4m. Technical Director Grétar Steinsson flew out to Germany two weeks ago to meet with his German counterparts to try and strike a deal - fourteen days later, we're no further ahead!

Do Leeds have sufficient funds to complete Farke's shopping list?

Leeds are still three players shy, 48 hours ahead of their season opener against Portsmouth! They've identified replacements for Summerville and Kamara, but negotiations are proving difficult! They also need competition/cover at left-back, which may not be so much of a problem as Max Wober or Sam Byram could fill the void, should anything happen to Junior Firpo!

What the ER board needs to understand is, that just because a player has 12 months left on his contract, it doesn't mean you have to lie down and get trampled over, and herein lies the problem! In the Championship money is tight, and the rules concerning FFP are stringent - with the majority of clubs outside the top flight penny-pinching on every deal.

The monetary amounts accepted for players such as Roca, Llorente, Cresswell and Summerville have been likened by many as 'closing down sale prices'. Now the club doesn't have sufficient funds to complete Daniel Farke's shopping list!

I honestly thought we would have one more signing before the Portsmouth game but that obviously isn't going to be the case. It probably means that any more more business won't be done until towards the end of the transfer window when other clubs know who they are willing to let go.
As it stands right now though, the squad is strong enough to cope.

I have often said that the best defence is a strange haircut. We should really be looking for players with weird haircuts instead of strange Johnny foreigner names

Footballers are known for their flamboyant personalities both on and off the pitch, and one of the most visible manifestations of this is their choice of hairstyles. From David Beckham's mohawk to Paul Pogba's ever-changing rainbow patterns, footballers often sport haircuts that are as talked about as their playing skills. Jimmy get copied by Joseph.

These unconventional hairstyles serve multiple purposes: they express individuality, draw media attention, and often become part of the player's brand... adding to the legend and charisma surrounding the athlete.

Interestingly, strange haircuts can also be seen as a psychological tactic on the field. A flashy or bizarre haircut can serve as a distraction to opponents, remember the sensation of Jason "pineapple" Lee diverting his opponents focus even momentarily and giving him the edge.

Additionally, a distinctive haircut can boost a player's confidence and make them feel invincible, as their bold appearance translates into bold gameplay. In this sense, the haircut becomes a part of the player's defense mechanism, an armor that not only protects but also intimidates.

Thus, while unconventional hairstyles may seem superficial, they can play a subtle yet significant role in a footballer's overall strategy.

I would suggest that a proper investment for the cash obtained from Gray would be establishing a hair salon at Thorpe Arch and the appointment of Mr Teezy Weezy to create ferocious hairstyles, and it would not go amiss to have a nail stylist also, since proper painted nails gave 100m sprinter Noah Lyles a competitive advantage.

Transfer activity seems very slow.

I hope other teams are not going to beat us to all our targets.

The way I see it, with regards to incoming transfers, is that at present it is hard for us to get someone who would be a first team starter. For someone to do that they have to be very good and if they are then are they more likely to go to a prem club or, like Sara, go to a foreign club who can offer European competition. At present we also don't have any long term injury to a first team starter. I imagine if someone got injured, prior to the window shutting, we would then go out and buy/loan someone.

As such for me I feel it is likely that we will be looking to bring in a couple of loan signing in the ilk of Jaydon Anthony and Conor Roberts. Players who are decent players but not guaranteed starters - but with the knowledge that if they do start then the first team will not be weakened significantly. Whether we can sign those players is tricky as their parent clubs will likely want them to get minutes, especially if they are a youngster - it was probably different last season in that Burnley were happy to let Roberts leave on loan and were probably more interested in us paying his wages than actually whether we played him.

This is just nonsense . the sales of Roca , Llorente were about taking players off the wage bill in a way that was basically neutral from the point of view of PSR rules. The write down on the values of these players was baked into the figures at the time of the takeover so to say that it affects the funding position makes no sense at all . The reality is that there are ongoing negotiations for a number of players but the 49ers won't simply cave to demands and will seek to get good deals which is a) good business and b) necessitated by the fairly daft accounting rules that apply. I would say that it is about 70/30 that Rowe , Llubic and a full back are signed in the next week to 10 days my guess is that the combined cost will be in the region of £20m .

Fingers crossed RM, would be good business if that happens.

Nice theory but since it became known that Weston McKennie was actually hiding Hershey bars in his Red White and Blue bonce a strict short back and sides policy has been enforced on the recruitment team.

Again I find myself in full agreement. I recall a time when my Sunday League team featured on TV (Granada TV used to do a thing called team of the week where a local Sunday match would be on it). We had applied to go on it and promised to all dye our hair ginger in support of one of our ginger players. Despite us losing, 2-1, the tv caption had us winning 2-1 and as such I can only think it was due to our gingerness in the hair department.

To save Jaydog time I can confirm we restricted the gingerness to the hair on our heads.

I truly hope so as we need to make our squad more competitive, no good bringing in players who are hardly going to play, as was the case with much of the bench last season. Some of our fans rated Anthony & Roberts, but they struggled to displace our better wingers & a young rookie who was playing out of his natural position, because Archie was so competent as a RB.

That would be around what we need player wise, the Championship is a different beast and we’re going to get injuries. The squad looks strong at the minute but throw 2/3/4 injuries into the mix and suddenly we look light. Teams are playing hardball at the minute but the closer to deadline day deals will be made for players who are needed off the books, hoping we can keep who we have as I reckon there will be a few late bids for Gnonto and maybe Geo. We’ll soon know the level of the 49ers ambitions 🙏🏻

I remember when Jimmy Hill suggested that the whole Romanian team dyed their hair blond to confuse their English opponents.

Ok but it's not just about meeting PSR rules, it's also the fact that we are in a perilous position financially.

I would have thought the financial position is okay given that the 49ers have enough money. It is the PSR thing that is likely the reason why we sold Gray and Summerville. Given that we can only go about £13m in debt for the year PSR wise but that we 'owe' a lot on transfer fees PSR wise (fees for the likes of Kristensen, Wober, Aaronsen, Piroe, Ampadu, Gruev, Rodon and Rutter are likely setting us back around £30-40m per year) we have no choice but to sell players. So selling Summerville for say £25m has likely reduced our PSR on transfers to an allowable allowance meaning that if wages, bonuses etc can be balanced against gate receipts and merchandising then we are okay PSR wise. Even if we had Newcastle or Man City owners we would still have to balance our books PSR wise regardless of how much more debt there is.

Am also guessing that selling Gray meant we were able to balance last year.

It is easy to say we should simply not stick to PSR rules and take a few points penalty but that could be the difference in terms of missing out on promotion. Not to mention the likelihood of the PL and EFL getting their act together and us finding ourselves being given the maximum penalty possible (or they find someway to increase the maximum penalty like they did when they deducetd 25 points for a 10 point offence when we went into admin or fining the club £200k for 'Spygate' an offence that wasn't even in their handbook and was blown out of all proportion because Derby train next to public right of ways rather than having a training ground that was shut off from visitors. I am only surprised that we weren't deducted points for 'not trying' when we allowed Villa to score.

Think we’re fine financially, Niners Investment Arm have money and Red Bull are on board. We sold around 100m in players recently and spent 15

Jason Lee’s career nose dived as the ‘Pineapple on his head’ taunt - which was instigated in some part by the Baddiel and Skinner football show, affected him psychologically.

Perhaps signing players with the recently renewed Mullet style might work.
