Whilst I take your point we still invested £40M ish that summer on Dan James & Firpo without any player sales. Yes in hindsight we should have maybe done more but I'm not sure it can be termed a complete c**k up as the long term injuries to Cooper and Phillips in October were also key.
Both overpriced and not what we needed, especially James. We needed a playmaker and a CM that summer, but got our "new signing" Forshaw who'd been injured for two years.

Bamford - Injury prone/beyond his best 5 year deal 70k from what I've read.
Harrison - easily worth 25 but can only loan.

Gray - 40 mil wasn't enough without it being guaranteed.
Early dealings before the last year were ace but the clauses were really poor.... Burnley, Sheffield united etc haven't had the same issues.
Some fair comments there and whilst all relegated clubs have to trade a few of their better players we were quite unique in having virtually no control over any of it.
Guess the answer was not to get relegated in the first place but once we lost Tyler Adams to injury we simply fell apart in midfield and couldn't stop the bleeding.

True but we did invest moderately that summer which was the point.

Geez I remember that. But probably a better signing than Cuissance would have been. Certainly cheaper.
I know Bielsa got accused f turning down all the players Orta offered him. In reality Orta wasn't offering players up to the task. And maybe Orta was restricted Radz finances. Wherever the blame, we needed to invest more than we did. Radz is paying the cost. Didn't it drop our value from 600m to 150m? Give or take 100m. If he'd spent 100 million more on transfers, he'd be a much wealthier man today. But he thought he'd done enough to keep us up and that's all that would matter when it came to selling the club.
