I don't think anyone is rushing to judgement or jerking their knee needlessly. Kind of feels insulting being called such for having a perfectly balanced view based on our current position not a wallet full of maybes

We're 11/10 to get promoted and have s**t loads of money to spend. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:11 pm But bartering will take time and while you do it another target might disappear. Then would Jack Clarke want to come, at the moment he's probably at the more ambitious club by appearance.
Sunderland 11/2 and have an owner who wants to run a sustainable club and achieve promotion by developing young players and good transfer business, not through shareholder investment (that's from their accounts and accredited to their owner 2 months ago).
So whilst they are not under any financial pressure to sell their business model indicates they would trade assets at the right price.

Not a penny over 15 million. Then look at other targets. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:11 pm But bartering will take time and while you do it another target might disappear. Then would Jack Clarke want to come, at the moment he's probably at the more ambitious club by appearance.
Not sure what the budget is. But we need to spread it across 4 immediate needs.

Indeed. Wilko and Bielsa were revelationaru. Oleary did a great job with an average premier league side and a talented academy (which Wilko started)ruttermania wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:16 pm I accept that there is a valid argument to be made in respect of Wilko and that team but the game has changed so much in the interim that it is a very difficult comparison ultimately . I don't think O'Leary was in the same situation at all as the club was an established Premiership force when he took over so his role was not transformational in the sense that Wilko and Bielsa changed the culture . If Radz had sold up in 2021 he would have got less than he hoped for but he would have left with a shining reputation with only a few doubters . As I say he paid the price for hanging on both in his pocket and with his reputation among Leeds fans . On that basis given that his first year was the season of Christiansen and Heckingbottom I refuse to rush to judgement on the 49ers based on a bad week and a slow transfer window which has ample time for further twists and turns .

The bookies odds for us would have been set weeks ago based on last season and then affected by money on, which will have been quite substantialJammy 07 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:25 pm We're 11/10 to get promoted and have s**t loads of money to spend.

Whatever you do don't touch the 11/10 right now.
I've no clue if he comes or not.

It was a simplistic way of saying the money that was budgeted to pay for Georgie over the next few season plus any profit received can now be spent elswhere.Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:57 pm Not actually sure we saw much money.
We bought him for £28.8m plus add ons, sold him for £40m, with £5.5m going back to Hoffenheim as a sell on fee.

But it's money we've spent once, got it back with interest so can spend again. How much in parachute payments did we get this season. Think 30M was earned by one team second season down about two years ago.. not sure if that's gone up or down but it hasn't been mentionedEllandback1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:57 pm Not actually sure we saw much money.

Yep and we have no sell on clause.Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:13 am Did we let Cressy go too soon? I'm gonna say he'll be a £25m player by next Summer!

I was sad to see Cresswell go. Think he's a talent. But we needed to prioritize the present over the future. Now I'm at a loss because I see players who should be part of this season leaving with no urgency over adequate replacements. And our squad size is threadbare. Given the current state of affairs, it would surely have made sense to have kept Cresswell around. And.a couple of other youngsters deemed nor quite good enough for a 1st place (which were currently not) contender.

Theor ythat Rodon was struggling back end of last season, no clue if it's true but his formed tailed off badly. Charlie could have stepped into the breech. I hate wasting anything, especially a talent like Charlieandrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 4:48 pm I was sad to see Cresswell go. Think he's a talent. Yes Rodon was injured during Wales play off against Poland, and had pain-killing injections for the rest of the season, so yes - Rodon was struggling. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 5:12 pm Theor ythat Rodon was struggling back end of last season, no clue if it's true but his formed tailed off badly. 100% right. Also why is it, that every player we've been linked with, another 50 clubs are linked to the same player? Is our recruitment that shocking?andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 4:48 pm I was sad to see Cresswell go. Think he's a talent. But we needed to prioritize the present over the future. We had been in the old second division for 8 or 9 years when Wilko took over. It was incredible that he transformed everything so quickly, and his signings were mainly all inspired ones up to the point that we won the first division title. One minute we were playing the likes of Charlton , Oldham, Portsmouth and Shrewsbury with crowds of around 18K at ER, and the next minute we were pipping Manu U to the first division title, and playing big names in European football. And two titles in 3 seasons.ruttermania wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:16 pm I accept that there is a valid argument to be made in respect of Wilko and that team but the game has changed so much in the interim that it is a very difficult comparison ultimately . And I can can well remember how boring the Graham years were - lots of defence minded 0-0 draws for ages, and then kind of gradual progress, but nothing particularly inspiring. And Graham was cautious about introducing youngsters. When O'Leary came in he transformed everything - suddenly there were lots of exciting young players being selected, and the whole style of football became much more bold and attack minded. For several years Leeds were known as the second favourite team amongst the fans of other PL clubs. I was working down in Oxford during that run to the PL semis, and I can remember that when I sometimes mentioned that I came from Leeds people would comment on how amazing it was that this young Leeds United team were taking European football by storm.

Most of the links are made up by some fans who like to pretend they are in the know because they once chanced upon the needle in the haystack until we get concrete news of a bid I don’t think anyone really know who the recruitment team are looking at. Ones thing is for sure it could turn ugly on Friday night if there is no news this week.Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 5:16 pm 100% right. That is a great point. Perhaps we need things to turn ugly on Friday to actually get through to the owners...WhiteRose wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 6:48 pm Most of the links are made up by some fans who like to pretend they are in the know because they once chanced upon the needle in the haystack until we get concrete news of a bid I don’t think anyone really know who the recruitment team are looking at. Defeat on Friday night, and coupled with not having got any new players in well not go down well with some folks.
