Re: Summer transfer and squad discussion
It's being suggested that the coaching staff at Blunts don't fancy Piroe if that is what it is does that counts as a rejection of the offer?
It's a game of who is going to blink first it seems to me. The stakes are high indeed. My gut feeling is that Leeds will slightly increase the offer and at the last minute the Blunts will buckle but they are not through playing silly beggars just yet
Also, if it is true that Piroe has been offered up as makeweight in a deal that is tantamount to throwing him under the bus. If it all falls down I can't think of anything so demotivating for Piroe who, as things are, is the only cover we have for a young and relatively raw lad playing at centre forward for us; Bamford is still there but way, way short of being fully fit and just a passenger, as he has been for a long time for us now. Piroe and Daniel Farke just have not found the solution to get the best out of Piroe and are just faffing around baffled!

We've denied the bid through the YEP.PhoenixUnited wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 12:03 pm It's being suggested that the coaching staff at Blunts don't fancy Piroe if that is what it is does that counts as a rejection of the offer?

I don't think we get Hamer now, he isn't a 10, so Tanaka should take his place I guess.
Signing Hamer and playing him out of position could go the same way Piroe did?
I want Sallai
As for Piroe I rate him highly, he isn't the problem, Farke is, doesn't know how to use him.
If we sold him to Blunts or another Championship rival every chance he turns back into the guy who was genuinely one of if not the best striker in the league and gets 20+goals and assists.
Keep JP.
Get Sallai imo.

I agree that Piroe is top player in this league, like Rodrigo before him, we haven't used their best positions.
Can't we offer bamford and we'll pay the rest !!

At what cost to the team results would Piroe’s 20 goals cost though ?Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 12:24 pm We've denied the bid through the YEP.

The only role that suits him is basically one where he floats about up front and has limited defensive duties and didn’t Swansea finish 13th with all his goals in the team.

I think that does him a disservice.
I know people don't like the analysis stuff but when we signed him The Athletic did a big piece on him and his data backs up that he is far better at the things people don't think he is.
He ranked higher than Bamford for link play, hold up play and things like that.
The only thing he lacked was distance running, so pressing I guess.
But we knew that when we signed him

You can look at his analysis here, he's pretty decent at most things from his time at Swansea.
He isn't just the goal scoring plodder people think.

This is Bamford in our Promotion season and he ranks higher than Paddy in most things, even tackles and interceptions, the things we don't think he does.
So clearly he isn't the issue, it isn't he can't do these things so what is it?
We've been lead to believe he is some ploddy goal hanger but the data says different.
All the data that clubs will use tells us he is a much more rounded striker than Bamford.

Re: Summer transfer and squad discussion
lets remember players get injured (james & Bamford out against Hull) ans at times lose form. So we need more incomings. Just read we offered Piroe plus Cash for Hammer which they rejected1964white wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 8:33 am I doubt we'll get another No.9, although we are weak in that department & probably require one, as Bamford is injury prone, I don't trust Piroe, so we are putting a lot of pressure on young Joseph.
I still think we can top the league, though.
We have Gnonto, James, Aaronson & with the new additions, Soloman, Ranizani & Tanaka, who are going to be far too powerful for championship clubs to cope with such prowess.
Leeds need to bring in a midfielder who can score goals and a decent number 9 in Jan 2027.

Hearing theres no truth in the Bamford part exchange. It sounded like made up crap anyway.
Anyway why would we trade our 3rd striker for a 5th midfielder. Absolute nonsense. Happier to have Bamford, Piroe, and Joseph competing for the 9 shirt.

Re: Summer transfer and squad discussion
Probably some really good analysis there but I'm going to be honest and admit I'm too lazy to look at it. Another reason for not looking is simply what my eyes tell me everytime I watch Piroe live at ER and the message my brain is receiving each and every time is that to score goals he needs that free role to roam where he feels the opportunties will present themselves. Nothing wrong with that and he's probably pretty good at it as well. What he can't do is run the channels for balls inbetween full backs and centre halfs, or played over the top, which means we get squeezed and when we get squeezed and the play becomes compressed we don't have the skillful midfield creators to break teams down and score enough goals.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 2:12 pm I think that does him a disservice.

The difference when Bamford came back into the team last season was also clear to see as our opponents defensive lines were immediately forced to drop 3 or 4 yards due to there now being a threat in behind. Jospeh now offers the same threat and we look a far better side when we have a willing runner up top.
Maybe what Piroe needs is an old fashioned 4-4-2 but as that's unlikely to happen it would probably be better for all concerned to simply accept he doesn't fit our requirements and move him on.
The other option of changing our manager and style of play to accomodate Piroe isn't really a solution in my opinion as it would be far too disruptive.

We know he can do it because he did it vs Norwich and was unplayable.
I still think he needs Farke to show faith in him, like Bielsa did Bamford.
Instead he moves him around and plays him in a role Farke knows he can't play which when it inevitably doesn't work makes JP a target for annoyed fans.
Can't do his confidence much good.

Re: Summer transfer and squad discussion
My feeling is if Aaronson plays inside as a no'8 or no'10 then that could help Piroe play as the main striker, mainly because Brenden makes lots of lung busting forward runs from midfield. Which means I'd prefer Piroe to be asked to play as a kind of false nine rather than sticking him right up top and just watching him struggle.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 4:11 pm Fair enough.

Just a bit worried about signing all these foreign players. We had too many the season we went down, as they didn't care about us.

Doesn't matter where they come from. It's who they are and how they are managed that counts. Farke has a much better grip on his players than Jesse did. And hopefully there are no McKennie's or Roca's in this group.

Strange strategy being adopted by LUFC - looking at and bringing in players that are not Welsh FFS
