If Hamer is seen as that game changing signing
That could make a difference why have we not gone in with a better offer as only seem to be 2 or 3 mill short

What about that suggests he feels we have what we need?
I think the key there is the word perhaps. He has stated that we have a classic no.10. He has stated we have players who can do the role even if they aren't natural to it. He has stated 'perhaps' we need to look at and not said, "We need to buy a no.10."

Rutter wasn't a classical no.10. He ended up there cos there was an opening.

Seems like a perfectly adequate solution if the necessity arises . Rutter clearly wasn't a classic No.10 by any means and his risk taking and his finishing could be frustrating at times but when he was on form it was a joy to watch. The unique combination of magician and grizzled veteran that was Pablo during the Bielsa era might very well have dragged us over the line for promotion but those guys aren't readily available . Pablo fitted into a lineage that included Bobby Collins and Gordon Strachan and we " shall not see their like again ".
Indeed Pablo produced when it mattered, the winning goal away to Swansea being a key moment in our promotion charge. When we needed a moment of magic from Rutter and Summerville all we got was a disappearing act - followed later by a proper disappearing act.

Two players at every position? er no

Meslier - Darlow
Bogle - Byram
Firpo - No one
Ampadu - Gruev
Rodon - No one
Struijk - Wober who doesn't want to be here, doesn't give a s**t about Leeds
Gnonto - James
Tanaka - Rothwell
Joseph - Bamford who has to be "managed or Piroe who's not a 9
Aaronson - No one
Ramazani - Solomon, oft injured player

What we have is a few utility players that may or may not be able to do a job should injury strike.. If your counting these players 2/3 times in calculations then injury to said player means we lose 2/3 players in one fell swoop. An injury to Byram gives us no back up either side at wing back.. that would result in a big shift in tactics.

Two players per position means 23 players minimum

I also don't think Crew an especially Debayo are ready, Debayo isn't that much ahead of the likes of Lopeta White just promoted to the 21's and likely 2 years away

If a manager says a position needs looking at perhaps then they want it looked at.

If Farke was happy he would have said "we have what we need".

He was asked specifically about that position and he opened the door for one.

Says it all.

We haven't replaced our 2nd most creative player at all and are pinning our hopes on a very talented but basically a Bamford.

Someone whose fitness has been poor for years.

A couple of cheap lower league foreign punts (Switzerland and German 2nd division) and the loan of a fitness doubt.

It's Orta 2.0 with the same arrogance and tried really hard lads message

We were never replacing Gray/Summerville and Geo's quality, they were three of the top ten players in the league last season and to expect that from the incomings this year is a bit much, the way round it would have been to try to replace with a few more players than we have..

So we have brought in two wingers, two defenders ( three if the Schmidt story has legs) and two central midfielders, add to that the returning AAronson and the Wober who seems to be stuck here ( and I do hope for his own sake he bucks up his ideas now)

That is quite a lot of players to hone into a well oiled unit.

Cjay wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:49 am Find the desire to talk down Georgie and Gray weird.

They are playing in the Premier League for a reason,
Brighton have one of the best recruitment teams in football and deemed Georgie worthy of being the record signing.

They both had fantastic seasons for us last season.

Georgie created more chances, more big chances and got more assists than Pablo ever did, yes he could have scored more but he more than made up for it with his creativity in a very difficult style.

And Gray had a fantastic season played out of position, Bogle the natural right back has had a very dodgy spell defensively already.

No guarantee any of the new signings do better than what we lost.

Ramazani has potential but his actual goals and assist record isn't great.

Solomon very talented but barely kicked a ball in 12 months and been injury ravaged for 2 years.

Bogle decent offensively but already shown his vulnerability defensively (and also very injury prone)

Tanaka seems decent but he's a German 2nd division player, who knows how he does.

And the Swiss full back who knows how he adapts.

It's all very uncertain imo and not bringing I'm a proper replacement for Georgie who Farke clearly wants would be really poor given the amount they've flogged.

£140mil in £25mil spent.
Exactly, 2 class players who will make it, Gray will be an England international not too long in the future, for folk to say "he got skinned" at RB is plain stupidity.
I think some people are clutching.

We have got two players for every position - some are utility able to play in a few positions like Amps and Byram and probably Aaronsson.

DF as per Bielsa does not want a big squad as you cannot accommodate them on the bench. This is his policy, he will either succeed or otherwise as a result. We were for the most part pretty lucky last season injury wise, but what is apparent is that we do not seem to lose too many to training injuries.

We will have to see if his tight knit squad policy works.

The same can be said about Bogle. The fact is all fullbacks get beaten by their opposing player at some point, as long as it isn’t a constant theme during the game I struggle to understand the issue.

Knew I missed one, tbh, I've no clue where he plays for us in our system. I'm loathe to have him as back up to Aaronson

Nothing official on Schmidt yet, i suspect they are holding the announcement back in case nothing else develops, hoping it will cushion the blow.

You are so right you can't expect good players coming from the lower divisions, you need to spend big to get good players... well perhaps Gnonto is an exception, and Vardy and Toney were once in a life time flukes.
