We have to remember the championship is weaker, all the clubs have lost their best players to the Premier League.
I think that could be a key factor. Burnley made a flying start but have since seen a few players leave - how they react is hard to judge. In theory they have enough quality left, like we did last season, but there is no guarantee the players left will unite into a solid team - people vastly underestimate how well Farke knitted the remnants of our squad together.

Leicester and Southampton were not ravaged anywhere near as much as us and Ipswich had the momentum. Not sure I see any of the promoted sides being as strong as Ipswich or whether any of the relegated sides will now be as strong as Leicester or Southampton. Early doors but I feel our points total from last year would probably secure automatic promotion this season.

Thank feck it is more or less over.
Ah bum

We signed a German 2nd division midfielder and a Swiss Full back/winger.

A very talented fitness doubt Solomon.

Sort of things Orta did and was criticised for.

I'm just being balanced.

I have talked up all the signings as I do every time I do an opening post and now the window is shut can move on to the squad we have.

It is what it is.

Is it competitive for an automatic chasing team and good enough on paper for a comfortable playoff finish? Yes.

Is it a blow the division away squad? no. It has areas where a bit more quality would have been very useful

That is where you hope the manager can make that bit of difference.

Thats how I see it.

What concerns me most is the questionable fitness of a number of our players, we aren't overwhelmed with depth in certain areas and have a number of players with very dodgy long term fitness records.

So now just on the squad as it is that's what I think

Just that a lot of risk and prayers involved.
Isn’t that any window for any team, Arsenal just signed an expensive midfielder and he’s crocked in one training session.

Time will tell, but I’d have money I’m pulling your leg next summer rather than the other way round.

I don't believe Solomon will stay fit much (Never played more than 23 in a season in his entire career) but a cut above anything in the championship when he is.

Ramazani is an excellent addition with flair and end product who I think will get bums off seats similar to Rutter.

Tanaka is a great signing.... Combative, creative and has performed well against top tier players. Steal at 4 million.

Schmidt I'm unsure of..... Looks to be a good player but definitely a step up from what he's played against. Good profile but bit of an unknown data wise as he hasn't really faced good opposition throughout a season. Big step up.
Kristensen was dominant in Austria which is for me a stronger league than Switzerland....... We'll see.

Do feel like we deserved one statement signing and feel like we have sort of/kind of replaced what we have lost if we don't account for the adaptation period it will take to bed them in.

Archie Gray/Kamara have been upgraded in midfield by Tanaka. Less convinced by Rothwell when Kamara was playing well but think he's good, again need a run of games to see how he fits.

Ramazani I hope/think will add chaos on the left but a lot to ask to replace Summervilles numbers. Think in other ways he will be harder on championship defences than summerville just because of his unpredictability. Something that I think Summerville struggled with towards the end. You always knew he was going to cut in and try to shoot kinda thing, championship defences adapted later on.

Rutter I don't think we've replaced at 10 directly but I think Aarronsson releases the ball better and genuinely think the more he plays the better he'll do though a Hamer type signing would of really added genuine quality across the front 3. Soloman if fit can play as a 10 and I think will be difficult to stop so we're in a decent place.

Schmidt adds cover/competition and rotation at lb/rb. Key for Firpo's chances of injury.

Are we head and shoulders above shitfield and Burnley? Don't think so..... But we are certainly competitive. Better than average window and crazy fees paid for Gray/Rutter in my opinion. Remember we all didn't know what Rutter was going to do this time last year. I'm hopeful.
The good thing is that we shouldn't have to rely on Solomon. In him, Gnonto, James, Aaronsen and Ramizani we have 5 players for the 3 positions (LW,RW & 10) - and at a push we could possibly play Rothwell, Piroe or Tanaka in the 10 position too. If Solomon stays fit and recaptures his form then he really could be the x factor, without him we should still be absolutely fine.

Schmidt will hopefully just be needed as insurance but great if he forces his way in on merit rather than injury. We have Byram too so if Schmidt can't cut it then hopefully we will be okay with Byram as first choice back up on either side.

We don't need Ramizani to be as good as Summerville as we have Gnonto who can likely be as good as Summerville was. Ramizani might give us that or might simply give us more of the bench than we got last season when our wide players who came on as sub didn't really create an awful lot.

Personally I think the money wasn’t available
(For whatever reason) to shop outside the bargain basement .
If funds were available why did we not go in with another 3 or 4 mill for the Sheff Utd playmaker??
Probably knew the low ball offer wouldn’t succeed and then end of!!!!!!

I'm happy with the window as a whole. Happy with our squad. When we're talking about the incomings, we have to include Wober and Aaronson. Pleased to have kept Gnonto. I feel like we have a strong starting 11 and good back up options everywhere.

My only complaint is that I feel we left a lot of money in reserve. That's great for FFP. But we could have splashed a little more cash and still been ahead of FFP. According to transfermarkt, we received €162m and spent €29m. I definitely feel like we could have spent another €30m.

The club is taking an unnecessary risk given what left and what's arrived in players and money.

If we don't go up this year, with the reduction in parachute payments next, it will be much, much more difficult.

This is a do or die season and our business should have reflected that. I don't feel it did.

Goes back to my point why no increased offer of another few mill for Hamer ????
Interesting to find out the answer from one of the groups who have access to Kinnear or maybe 49ers will explain

I think not losing Wober and Willy on the last day means it has not been a bad window.

We look reasonably well covered on the back line and in midfield.

It's the elusive no.10 that we have missed out on again and we are a back up striker short in my view.

It seems that we have started to build up a bit of a war chest too after Orta's wastefulness.

Let's just hope we have enough to do it this season.

Now we have to set the groundwork for when any of these new signings fail, and fail they will in some degree, cos all players make mistakes, or have an off day. Love a red card, or giving away a penalty.

As soon as they under perform we can jump on our high horse and say I told you so at the end of the summer transfer season, and people will see we were so prescient.

God I hope Manor's knees give him trouble early doors, we couldn't stand it if he went through the season injury free, and worse still if he scored tons of goals.

Hope we have a great bad season, love it, would really love it.

I'm looking forward to seeing all our new players.

I may acquire some photos today if any of them are on the bench.

I remember one Christmas, I asked for a Scalextrix. What I got was a second-hand unbranded version. I still had fun playing with it, but it wasn’t what I wanted. I thought about that last night. Can’t imagine why.
