Re: How many games before we change manager
Please tell me the final score, oh yes 0-1. Playing at home we could not score because we have a unproven 20 year old leading the line. And a manager who on his record last season only has Plan A and only uses his subs in the last 15 mins unless a player is injuredCUSSIE01 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 10:23 am “ Look 2nd best “ ?? I must have been watching a different game. 70%+ possession against probably our main challenger this season, Joseph should have scored, denied a nailed on penalty, Gnonto unlucky when his shot hit Firpo. Not perfect but apart from a well taken goal from an unlucky slip we ran the game, even Premiership teams can struggle against 11 men behind the ball.
Farke undoubtedly has his faults but he’s our best chance of promotion imo, knee jerk changes of managers haven’t gone well for us in the past but if we’re not in our close to top two by Christmas I’ll happily take part in your poll until then DF has my support.
Leeds need to bring in a midfielder who can score goals and a decent number 9 in Jan 2027.

Please tell me you haven't read this on "Football Insider" & "MOT Leeds News", two sites notoriously making up assumptions about Leeds United.

Was in a lot of lists in recent times.Cjay wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 12:14 pm I was just thinking like Angus![]()
Moyes would tick all his boxes.
I don't think is any point looking for the next Mckenna or finding some gem abroad because I don't think our esteemed board and recruitment team will have the knowledge, ambition, bravery to try anything risky.
I nailed my colours to the Kjetil Knutsen mast some time ago (he's won another league title since then and looks like he may win another fairly soon).
But I just dont think they'd have the knowledge or bravery to appoint someone like him.
It's much easier and safer to appoint Farke for example with his solid Championship record then if it goes wrong they can say "ah but we got the best man we could he won the league 2,3 years ago".
Flawed of course, if they wanted someone with a strong Championship record could have kept Big Sam (he has a better Championship one than farke)
How come he didn’t get lured in to the PL.
I declare my love for Saint Daniel and I can shoehorn him in to any conversation.

It’s interesting that fans are inherently risk averse.Cjay wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 12:04 pm We'd all probably prefer some ambitious left field appointment if the time came.
But we have to look at what went before.
The safest most obvious appointment they could, Farke.
The sort of appointment that 5 minutes of googling "most successful Championship coach" would bring up.
It would have bought up 2 names, Scott Parker and Daniel Farke (the other names either in work or too old) or Big Sam incidentally who actually has a better Championship record than Farke.
And fear of the unknown is powerful and powerful in our fanbase.
If you go look at the last manager poll
Rodgers, Potter, Corberan, Farke, Vieira, Carrick, Ryan Lowe and Jon Dahl Tommason got votes.
The only one who you could say was unknown would be Knutsen who got votes.
Current Brighton manager was on it, Fabian Hurzeler, 0 votes, current Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris, 0 votes, Kieran Mckenna, 0 votes.
I imagine the fanbase reflects the owners, fear of a risk.
Ironic really, had Radz and Orta followed the must not take a risk just Google the most successful Championship managers list and pick one criteria then one of the people above Farke on that list never happens.
6 years ago Radz took a risk on a 60+ year old famously temperamental maverick with 0 experience of the English game or even a solid grasp of the language.
One who had fallen out with owners, whose last club spell had gone horribly and whose most noteworthy achievements were quite a few years in the past.
That wasn't a safe appointment . . . .
Or at least thats what you are suggesting.
Yet the biggest success in recent times was achieved with a very big risk.
Thats why the Moyes, Dyche & Big Sam style appointments leave me bored witless. Lazy appointments.
And Big Sam may have a better Championship record than Farke but in a different era and a very different game.

Re: How many games before we change manager
Pointless question as I’ve already mentioned.
Give it any logical thought and you’ll soon realise it yourself.
Maybe how many points are acceptable from the next 5 games or suchlike. Your question is a movable feast.
What if you win the next 3 and vote only 3 more games. So then you want a manager removed who’s won 3 in a row and probably in the promotion places.
Make’s perfect sense

No idea maybe he's happy where he is?
Turned down Ajax.
Was on the final 2 with De Zerbi for Brighton.
Clearly got something about him but maybe he just doesn't fancy another job.

I think risk aversion is pretty normal generally.Jaydog wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 9:45 am It’s interesting that fans are inherently risk averse.

It always feels safer to do the easy thing or the most obvious? Opens you up for less room for criticism.
But I think it pays sometimes to be brave.
Look at Arteta at Arsenal? Xabi Alonso at Bayern Leverkusen, Mckenna at Ipswich, some of the most successful in context appointments of recent times were at the time extremely risky on paper.
As was Bielsa, as was Maresca, as was Nuno for Wolvea, Marco Silva at Fulham, Carrick at Boro and so on.
Whereas the on paper safer ones at the time like Farke, Steve Bruce when WBA gave him the job, Chris Wilder for Boro, Slaven Bilić for Watford.
Managers with proven and all fairly recent promotions and solid records underwhelmed.
What went before doesn't always repeat itself, but I think it takes bravery and probably a lot of knowledge that maybe our power that be don't have to be able and willing to go for the less obvious.
