And they both had a lump on 2-2 I think.

Does not bode well with me, he ought to have bowed to the united fans then left the field in disgust like firpo did.

I like the lads commitment to the club . The Frenchman has done a lot for us so far! I like him he's got some very good saves
and world-class goalkeeping up his sleeves....say what you want..... As someone said above "Every keeper makes the odd serious error" he's even got more time to improve his game further. M.O.T

Well, some Leeds fans obviously weren't.
Lets face it, he couldn't have done it in a better environment than with one of his fellow compatriots.

Re: Illan Meslier
Got a message from my cousin whos a season ticket holder at blunderland, her husband and son also.
" How are you this morning love, we would have taken a point before the game, we were in the car when we equalised like so many who had left the stadium, we were resigned to losing, in fairness we thought Leeds were the better side.
The commentator was dumbfounded and was trying to work out what had happened, but we will take that point happily, see you soon"
My reply was "piss off you mackem bitch"
I'm not at all bitter.

Because he was embarrassed and didn’t know what else to do. The reaction today and over the next few days means a lot more.mentalcase wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 9:45 am Oh, and another thing that pissed me right off with Meslier was, wtf was he laughing with their manager at the end![]()

He cares a lot!! Give him a break.
He’s a good keeper, he’s our keeper. Let’s support him!

I'm over it now, I've laked in goal many times myself , these things happen, multipy a mistake by 40,000 and it's worse, not buying that "embarrased" bit, he should have followed firpo straight off.Clitheroe White wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 10:13 am Because he was embarrassed and didn’t know what else to do. Re: Illan Meslier
Think the pic of him with their manager is completely without context and invites a knee jerk reaction probably shared by a lot of fans. I hope it doesn’t end up with a lot of personal abuse as is the way with some Neanderthal football fans.

Good to see some pragmatism on the forum this morning.
Meslier was already thinking about his next move. Should he flop on top of the ball after catching it, and then stay like that for 5 seconds? With 10 seconds remaining...
On the Just Joe channel, last night, the other Joe (Joe Blackburn) pointed out that a striker who misses an open goal (right in front of them) has made an error which has identical value (1). And suggested that we are kinder when we are judging the latter.

Re: Illan Meslier
I’ve just watched the replay of the goal over & over and if you zoom in you can see a divot where the ball lands, plus it came off Firpo’s head which prob caused spin. He didn’t seem to take his eyes of the ball but could maybe have gotten his whole body better positioned. Just my opinion, no doubt plenty will disagree.

Re: Illan Meslier
THAT goal has already defined Meslier’s legacy. Whatever he does from now on in will do nothing to diminish that. It’s how it defines him as a person that interests me now. I hope it spurs him on to better things.
From the reaction of some on here, I get the impression he should never show his face again.
Get realistic, it’s not as though he killed anybody.

Imagine being resigned to losing a wedge after staking on 2-2, then that happens. You'd be smiling right now after jumping for joy last night. Imagine smiling at 1-2 then that happens?
He'll get over his Mel moment, me too, and the lesson learned is one of expectation or expecting the ball to behave. Joint leaders is where Leeds should be and Mes has played his part. Let's hope that this moment brings out a ruthless professional streak in Mes, one that drives Leeds United into first place.
Go on Mes, do it for Yorkshire!

Re: Illan Meslier
When the owners were flogging our best players they were amazingly rejecting big money offers for Meslier per Kinnear in the past
Terrible mistake.
Keepers make mistakes, this is one of the worst ever, its mind boggling.
But Meslier has been here long enough for us and the club to know he's been on borrowed time for ages.
He's been despite the clean sheets etc one of the most underperforming goalkeepers in every season he's been here.
He's spent most of his time here playing for teams that dominate the ball and thus he makes very few saves compared to goalies in teams that don't.
He's sort of the reverse Bamford, his stats look OK but dig deeper and you see a problem.
He may make less saves but he doesn't make as much, top goalies last season were saving 75%+ of the shots they faced (Ipswich and Leicester goalies incidentally).
Meslier was under 70% (and has never gone above it in any season)
He's been an under performing goalies analysis wise since he arrived.
At best his save percentage and stuff has been middle of the road in the league he's been in, often its been worse.
I don't think he's any better now than he was when he arrived (says a lot about how useless that idiot mate of Orta's is whose been goalkeeping coach despite never playing professionally).
But imo Meslier needed getting rid of a while ago and it's a failure of squad management he wasn't.
Clubs have all the information on performance and such, they knew, did nothing.
Rejected offers according to Kinnear more than fair and somehow saw it as a positive.
Mes will feel terrible for last night, he's an ok Championship keeper at best
Nothing more.

An open goal is literally that, a goal with no keeper in the way. I can't remember the last time we missed one of those.Wes Lee Street wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 10:47 am Good to see some pragmatism on the forum this morning.

I don't agree with those comments cjay, I often critisise him for his lack of catching the ball, but last night other than the last seconds he was comfortable in every way, often catching the ball.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 11:35 am When the owners were flogging our best players they were amazingly rejecting big money offers for Meslier per Kinnear in the past

He's also a good shot stopper at times, who would you get as a replacement !!
Careful what you wish for .
I like Darlow, but he won't be getting a run unless through injury.
