Am hoping we have a very intelligent player on our hands. His positioning for where he receives the ball, when he gets his assist, shows he is as wide as he can be, his right foot is actually out of play when the ball is coming to him. This gives him as much space as it is possible to get because the full back will not want to go that far wide. This means that when he gets the ball he has the room to manouevre and can then get to where he wants to be to put the cross in without having to get all the way past his marker, simply has to keep the defender back pedalling so the room is there for him to put the cross in from a great angle (and if the fullback had gone as wide as him then it also would have meant he would have been isolated so if Solomon got the ball and got past him he would have been in a lot of space).
The contrast would be to someone like Summerville or Gnonto who was always looking to cut in and as such would usually start a lot narrower and have to wriggle his way through a crowd. Solomon showed great wisdom.
I noticed Soloman's positioning enabling him to go past Jarvis & Coyle with considerable ease & then had the intelligence to deliver the ball accurately to Joseph, our only player in the six-yard box, was truly special.
Gnonto & Summerville rarely go round the outside defenders as wingers used to do from years gone by, preferring to cut inside.

A lovely debut display from the little man.
Agree with both you guys. He does seem to have that burst of speed off the mark of an old style winger.
His crosses were also measured - not just a hit-and-hope someone was running into the middle.
Have to add that Joseph's pick up of the cross for the first goal was impressive. He got to that near post at lighting speed.
He has started the season so well. Still thinking about that pass of his that set up the James goal last week - brilliant.
Great stuff.

I thought his first game looked really impressive. He probably only had one or two team training sessions.

The positioning and movements from Solomon were a level above most Championship players. Any youngster who's a wide player and wants to improve their game would do well to watch him closely and hopefully our 3 other wide attackers will improve from training with him.

Clearly not fit, looks overweight.
But not related to the Bristol City match.
Saw a clip of him at Donetsk, popped up on twitter.
The difference is huge.
So much faster in speed and movement and touch, everything basically.
Get the feeling unfortunately injuries have ruined him, will probably have a decent career still but was shocked how different he looked.
Think he would have started if he was fitter, Gnonto better on the right anyway though still good on the left. But I think we can only call him a part time player like Paddy till he proves otherwise

I think he is one of those players you hope will provide the occasional bit of class.
But was a shock how much more dynamic he looked at Donetsk.
Like Bamford actually injuries have definitely robbed him of a lot of pace and sharpness.

That said, I think James always makes a big impact when he comes off the bench. That pace late on causes problems.
Very true, shame his finishing let him down today

You don't need to go back to past seasons. He looked great for us in the first game he started. I forget which game as my memory is terrible. He set up a goal and was full of tricks out on the wing. So .... he looked very good a month ago. Would expect him to get back up to pace again quickly.
