Just as I wouldn't expect you to know what we're discussing over a pint here in Canada, I don't know what the word on the street is in the UK.
I can see your frustration with Labour and Mr. Starmer as he does seem like a bit of a burk (although I was impressed that he said he would consider putting UK troops into Ukraine when the cowards from the USA flood their support for Putin in the coming weeks).

But my question is - how did they win such a majority in the last election? I realize people sometimes simply vote for a change and that Boris pissed people off with lies and stupidity, and Liz Truss didnt know which way was up, but Sunak seemed OK to me.
So ...WTF??
Sunak was a wet rag in a suit, Malcolm

Never elected, too.

I can only speak for myself (obviously) but for the first time in my life I chose to exercise my right to disenfranchise myself and NOT vote in the last election. It was a decision I made after much consideration and wasn’t any part of apathy. If my ballot paper had included the option ‘none of the above’ that’s where my cross would have landed.
The Conservative Party, through the mad Johnson era, pathetically arrogant Truss and irrelevant Sunak made themselves totally unelectable; Labour, unrecognisable and weak, offered me nothing (and I was brought up in a mining Labour voting area - we were called Red Monkeys back in the day, from the assumption that if Labour put up a monkey in our constituency the miners would vote for it); and the alternatives were too weak to put up any kind of opposition.

We need to get this regime out ASAP.

We have a Gov website explaining what you will receive as a 'Asylum Seeker', it is ridiculous.
We import thousands of unskilled migrants who are not contributing to the economy.
We have thousands in social housing getting all their bills paid and at least 5 out of 7 new builds will be for foreign imports, more burden on the state for life. Rayner has prioritised foreign imports over people who have been on the list for years.

It is fairly obvious that 98% of these male migrants are not fleeing war zones, there are crossing several borders to get to France then suddenly they have no paperwork.

People DO need to vote, even if it is by dissent to stop the worst from getting in.
If you do not vote you have no right to an opinion in my book.

It said earlier on the news that there are sick elderly dying in the corridors on hospital wings attended by people that have to use Google translate to converse with families, it is a disgrace.

Thanks for your replies - very interesting. Funny Sunak came across over here as OK. But maybe that's compared to Trump insanity!!
My theory on most things is that the pendulum keeps swinging, and it doesn't swing back to the middle. It swings to the other side.

So the comment a out 14 years of Tories mismanagement makes me think the pendulum simply swung to the other extreme in your last election.

I will say Farge scares me. But maybe he gains from the next swing of the pendulum.??

Macron has called an emergency meeting on European security and Starmer will attend... more like a pity party cos they didn't like what Vance said in Munich... angry stupid people don't make good decisions. People are tired of war, politicians are not.

The quote "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." was said by Samuel Johnson on April 7, 1775.

However, Johnson’s biographer, James Boswell, clarified that Johnson was not condemning patriotism itself but rather false patriotism, when it is used as a cover for self-interest or dishonorable actions.
So you're in favour of selling the Ukrainians out to Putin?

Don’t worry about Farage, he’s a novelty figure over here. Why do you think he spends so much time over there?

Yeah, about what I'd expect from a cap carrying MAGA member.
You must be really happy that your buddy is legitimizing Putin's regime again this week in Saudi Arabia.

So you still haven't answered my question ... are you OK with peace if it sells Ukraine out to Putin - yes or no?
Guess I'll get another obtuse, irrelevant answer. Or maybe another immaterial video.

He's leading the polls over Labour and the Tories.

You call that novelty?

Starmer spends more time out of the UK than anyone else, when questioned which he prefered Davos or Westminster he replied Davos, that's because his interest is with Europe and not the UK and why all of our money leave the UK.

Farage can stop all that and bring some common sense back before it's too late.

I've tried getting him to answer that and I think he's OK with Ukraine getting fucked but was not too happy when I suggested that Finland could be next if Putin is allowed to carry on.

I just did. Polls, pah. He’s x-factor, stars in their eyes, Britain greatest talent popular. If he’s such a wonderful politician why isn’t he sat on the front bench of Parliament?
If you read earlier you’d note I wasn’t supporting any of them, I was responding to an overseas poster who claimed Farage frightens him. I was trying to put that poster at ease.
Anyway, that’s just my opinion.

Oh come on O.B, are you actually being serious here?

Polls are not always precise but they do give a strong nod to the change on the political landscape and the change is happening and we are 4 years away from a general election to grow more support, not bad for a party that threw their hat in to the arena in 2018.

Do you think Starmer or Kemi Badenoch or even Ed Davy are serious wonderful politicians?

Actually while we're at it please name me some wonderful standing politicians serving today???

Farage and Reform are the biggest threat to the 2 party system in political history, The lib Dems have never been a threat, they had to merge and lie to share a coalition with the Tories.

Reform UK membership is growing by the week, part of that is down to how pathetic, weak and damaging the last 14 years we had with the Tories and the recent intern of Labour who are completely rudderless and we're heading for a recession because they can't do basic economics or put British people first instead they drain them of wealth and dole it out abroad.

Farage is not a left wing politician to be on the front bench with Labour and he ruled out rejoining the Tory party - That's why!

Take a good look at his independent career, who has even got close to that?

Farage clearly does frighten the Labour and Tory party in the UK, unless you haven't watched any news for the past 6 months on the damaged these clowns are doing to the country.
Starmer is finished, its only a matter of time before he is replaced or the party implodes - the back benchers are already closely monitoring this and will rebel, specially if he pokes his snout into deploying our troops into Ukraine after he cut military funding.

Why was there talk of the Tories suggesting to merge with Reform?
It's because the Tories sit in third spot and only way they get to topple Labour is to merge, it won't happen as Farage has clearly ruled that out because they can't be trusted, look what they did to Brexit, they weakened it beyond any power.

Why are some local Labour run councils cancelling the May elections if not in fear of losing their seats to Reform, Starmer is claiming to reform councils with devolution across certain councils which happen to be losing key support to Reform UK from betrayed Labour voters, rest assured you will see Reform destroy the red wall of Labour.
Some of those Labour councillors are now independents because they know their seats are at risk.

Populist?
Why is populism fast growing across Europe, most of Europe is in recession or heading that way, the cities are in chaos, look at France, Germany, Italy, UK. They had to power vote in France to stop them winning.

Take a look what is going on, you might begin to understand why people are sick of mass migration that is destroying economies and turning cities into no go zones because the crime rate and violence has become uncontrollable. Tent cities are popping up everywhere.

Not a serious politician?
You may not like Farage but what he has achieved is undeniable and it's just stupid to deny it.
Reform are still quite young but already have amassed a 200k membership since Starmer became P.M.

Also how many other political party MPs applied pressure on the Gov by threatening a private prosecution into the CPS for not charging the Manchester airport thug brothers that issued serious assaults on armed police officers.

Farage got those charges applied 6 months after that assault they would have probably not been charged at all, meanwhile Labour were jailing people within 48 hours of them posting comments on Facebook, the brothers got bailed, so let's see what sentence they get compared to others.

You want more of the same dictatorship, more tax hikes, then keep voting Labour.

I'm not saying Reform and Farage are perfect but take a look at the past run of governments of failures, maybe it is time for a change.

Three idiots walk into a bar. One has had your pants down and been taking you from behind for the past decade. The second is openly lying to your face. The third tells you how wonderful he is and buys you a pint. Then a twelve year old with a clipboard asks you your opinion. Go figure.
Sorry for the flippant response and obvious sarcasm, you’ve clearly gone to a lot of trouble here, but there isn’t a single politician in this nation who I trust enough to put a pencil cross against their name. No politician wants change, it’s not in their nature.

Well that's the end of western civilisation if we all had that view, you have rolled over and took it as well, specially if you can't figure out how democracy works.

Joking aside you could actually vote tactically against them to lower their majorities allowing more parties to form, instead of using apathetic tropes to try engage in a serious debate, to be fair you removed yourself from any political opinion or debate when you gave up your vote. You had a chance to help change it, imagine if everyone did the same.

Voting can change things if the numbers add up, apathy gets you nowhere or more of the same because it is designed to distract you, it worked didn't it?

Yes they tell lies, yes there are self serving career politicians out for themselves, but there will be a change if we stop them.
I said it countless times why do millionaires get into politics for 95K salary, this is why we need to remove them and get rid of the 2 party system.

It is also designed that the educated elite from private schools like Eton tend to dominate politics, these people do not have a clue about real life or lower class living, they see them as stupid they treat them bad then feed them cheap morsels when they need their vote again and people fall for it because they change the leader and not their root intentions.

Farage is trying to change the electoral voting system because it is rigged.
Here's how.

At the last election;
Lib Dems secured 12% of the vote and got 72 seats.
Green Party secured 7% of the vote and got 4 seats.
Reform UK secured 14% of the vote and got 5 seats, it was changed to 6 after a recount. ???

The fact that for every Reform MP there are 800,000 voters, and for every Labour MP there are 30,000 voters suggests corruption.

BTW: You didn't answer anything I asked you :duno:

PS: Never use a pencil on a ballot paper ;-)
