That is sad, one of the great three piece bands

Very sad news, they were and remain one of the great British bands.

I saw the other day that Bruce Foxton has had to quit touring due to ill health, too.

Going Underground was a great one to leap about to with your mates but Thats Entertainment is my favourite Jam track.

Him and Rick were a helluva rhythm section. Andy Lewis, who played in Weller's band for years, said only yesterday that he studied Foxton in great detail to make sure he was doing it right!

As I say, local band for me so saw them live before they really broke. Sleeve notes on Snap say Weller was working on the new housing estate on a former pig farm in Scotland Farm Road in Ash vale (small hamlet near Aldershot and Camberley) when he had to waity in a local phone box t oget word weather they'd been signed. That call box was top of a small Cul de Sac (Orchard Close) which is where was raised (in a house....not the telephone box)

Love the early rawer, edgier stuff, up to Setting Sons, not so keen on Sound Affects and on.

Not a claim to fame, but a nice bit of pop culture trivia nonetheless. And thanks for clarifying the telephone box bit, challenging unless it was a blue police one!

I'm a fan of both, tbh; the earlier stuff definitely had a punky edge, the later stuff signposted where Weller was heading with the Style Council. Who I rate as a band despite a lot of Jam fans crying "sell out". Each to their own, of course, we like what we like.

Very sad news 😞

One of my favourite bands.

Saw them a couple of times in the early 80s, at Loch Lomond and Carlisle. I also saw Rick and Bruce in From The Jam quite a few times and Bruce playing with SLF.

I thought Rick was a great drummer and always seemed like a down to earth character.

What a shame

I saw her open for Miles Davis in New York on 31 January, 1982.

She put on one heck of a show.
