£45m is not a lot, might buy a couple of decent acquisitions.
Ipswich spent £117m last summer & they are heading back to the championship.
And that 117m doesn't include the salaries they paid for their loan signings Ben Johnson, Kalvin Phillips, Julio Enciso, Ben Godfrey.

In Farke's second season Norwich spent around £35m on incoming players. However that was largely offset by the £33m they received by selling Buendia to Villa. So in effect in 2 seasons in the prem they spent a total of £11m. Considering that they'd also sold Ben Godfrey to Everton for £25m in the year in between and it really does show what Farke was up against.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 2:56 pm Farke's record in the premier league was hampered by Norwich's lack of resources and ambition. Simon Jordan was saying yesterday that they only spent 9 million when they went up. Sounds to me like the owner just milked the PL for the money she could.
Farke deserves to continue given what he's done over the past two seasons. And he'll have a lot more money to help him do the job with Leeds.

Delia made plenty of money as a TV chef & from book sales. She has a net worth of £35 million & lives in a house, deep in the countryside outside Stowmarket, Suffolk.

Well, then, I guess we could guarantee staying up next year simply by paying everyone more.mentalcase wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 11:01 am "Player wages is the best predictor of on-the-pitch performance in the Premier League."

Some very good points Rutter..ruttermania wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 2:12 pm I'm disgusted that barely 24 hours after one of the greatest days in the clubs recent history that the 'Sack Farke Brigade' are out led by such outstanding 'footbal pundits' as the Gabby Babby and Michael Browne citing the alleged evidence from the Norwich campaigns which Delia saw fit to run on a chicken dinners budget . It is more worrying that some of these stories allege 'inside sources' and one has to ask is this kite flying or plain lying. There is still a Championship to be won and the thought that someone other than Scott Parker thinks this kind of muck is helpful is troubling. I believe that with proper backing and a good recruitment strategy that the building blocks are in place to establish the club in the Premier over the next couple of seasons but that will require pragmatism and coherence not attention grabbing strokes. Keep Struijk , buy Solomon unless Levy tries to screw us and then think about the areas that need strengthening . We will need a significantly larger squad next season but we have a much better basis to build on so gutting the squad is not the answer .
I'd not spotted the sack Farke noises. Totally wrong at this point in time and would be listen to Gabby if you gave you advice on anything? I wouldn't trust with which flavour crisps (Chips to our US friends)
Would much prefer to keep struijk and buy Solomon (this my comment about deepening on player motivations).
Totally agree - this squad needs building, not gutting!

Great breakfast debate as usual EB. I read these every day, but never reply.
How much did Marcelo change the squad between promotion and finishing 9th? How high was our wage bill then (pretty sure less than 9th highest).
Comparing Leeds and Norwich is not apples with apples. Stadium atmosphere and match day revenues are definitely significantly different.
Farke took a lot of stick on January for prioritising squad harmony over player acquisitions and almost everyone said he was wrong. Do they still think so?
Do the same people think that we need a whole new squad for the Prem?
There are definitely additions needed, but the team/squad have surely earned their chance to have a crack at the Prem. If our attitude is to replace the lot of them then that's not really reflecting the 'side before self' mentality I don't think.
Enhance with a few additions, but don't start from scratch.

I think people are misinformed over Leeds not strengthening the squad in January.
Farke stated that if the right player was available then they would be interested.
For me the only "right" players was Bereton Diaz who was an early aquisition for the Blunts.
Apart from an advanced playmaker there was imo need to strengthen anywhere else.
As it turned out Leeds succeeded where others failed. Of course there is always a large slice of luck involved that the injuries dont mount up.

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 23rd April) Red Bull's influence set to grow at Leeds after recruitment shake-
I have kind of switched off on the Premiership in the last couple of years but my impression was that teams that succeeded in staying up seemed to have expanded their squad. Leeds under both Bielsa and Farke have relied on a relatively small squad in the Championship. On that basis if most other competitors have squads of 30+ does it make sense to say that we can brave it with a squad similar in size to what we relied on this season? If one was to put the kindest interpretation on Norwich's 2 recent Premiership campaigns you could say that their attempts to prove that one could do it a different way was disproved. On that basis if we are recruiting 6_8 new players and bringing up a couple of youth players we are still going to need to keep the bulk of our Championship squad for next year and possibly beyond. Many of them may be only bit part players but they can still play a role. How many of the masses of players recruited by Forest since promotion can we remember now. We don't need that level of hit and miss recruitment much of which was forced on them by circumstances but we have a better starting point.

Well in truth 45 million is not a lot when they sold Buendia for a reported 33 million in June 2021 with addons suggesting the fee could rise to 38 million. So the next transfer budget was 12 million at best.if you looked at what was signed, Josh Sergeant is the standout. Norwich were shopping in League 2 Bundesliga. It was the same recruitment a championship club makes to play in the championship.1964white wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 3:14 pm £45m is not a lot, might buy a couple of decent acquisitions.

Therefore the argument that Farke was never backed properly by Norwich is pretty indisputable.

Farke never had a chance, nor would any other manager.DDB220 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 9:47 am Well in truth 45 million is not a lot when they sold Buendia for a reported 33 million in June 2021 with addons suggesting the fee could rise to 38 million. If only some of our fans were realistic about the task Farke faced.
