Perhaps but we also lost Solomon and Firpo which is nearly 40% of our goals last season in terms of goals and assists.
Additionally Sunderland weren't reliant on possession last season so tactically they may have far less to adapt.

We actually fought back to beat Bournemouth after looking dead & buried, but I get your point.

Well for a good start you need to have 90% of your squad together by mid July for the friendlies and preferably the training camp in Germany. Going into the season needing to bed in new players as we go isn't condusive to a good start..Cjay wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 4:38 pm Unpredictable season so quite exciting.
No idea how we will cope.
Will Brentford suffer without Frank?
Will Manure and Spurs be better?
Will Everton and Wolves be as good under their new managers because under them they were nowhere near relegation.
Do think a good start is important.
Your chances of surviving with less than 1ppg after about 6 games statistically is extremely slim.

I expected more first 11 signings as well. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 4:48 pm Well for a good start you need to have 90% of your squad together by mid July for the friendlies and preferably the training camp in Germany. I'm assuming the training camp predates Manure in Stockholm? So very soon? Can't find a date for that
We need 3/4 quality signings next 10 days. TBH I thought we'd have added two last week.

Firpo and Solomon managed 14 goals and 22 assists between them. That equals 36 goal contributions out of 190 goal contributions (95 goals and therefore presumably 95 assists). That is 18.94%.

We had 7 points after 3 games under Marsch yet went down with barely a whimper.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 5:07 pm I expected more first 11 signings as well.
I can't remember the article but was one and talked about points after X amount of games, 5,10 etc and how many you need for surviving statistically since the Premier League became a 20 team division.
A decent start was paramount.
Hardly anyone survived ever with less than 1ppg after fairly early in the season, 5-10games I believe.

Perhaps he simply wouldn't sign for us as he had already been approached by Tottenham. Not much clubs can do with underage players if they want to leave. Look at us signing Sonny Perkins from West Ham, Sam Greenwood from Arsenal etc. Simply offer young players a bigger wage and many will sign. It was the Orta way.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 7:59 pm Spurs sign Max McFadden on a two year deal....what do they know we don't ?

Probably likely that they wouldn't have had a choice. The player had signed a contract and presumably those wages were then guaranteed - in the same way as if a player is injured and doesn't play. Those wages would form part of his estate and go to his next of kin - same as royalties to dead singers.1964white wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 4:05 pm Liverpool Football Club have announced they will pay the full remaining value of Diogo Jota’s contract to his family following the Portuguese forward’s tragic death in a car accident.

The heartfelt gesture, reported by Portuguese outlet Record. The move is to ensures financial support for Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, and their three children.
The club has also pledged ongoing emotional and legal support. Jota’s iconic No. 20 shirt has also been retired by the club with plans for a permanent memorial at Anfield.

It is an excellent move by Liverpool FC. Quite right and proper and doing the right thing.1964white wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 4:05 pm Liverpool Football Club have announced they will pay the full remaining value of Diogo Jota’s contract to his family following the Portuguese forward’s tragic death in a car accident.

Really CJay your misuse/misinterpretation of stats is staggering - no wonder 94.2% of your posts are drivel.
Even allowing for the fact some of our goals may not have had an assist it is still likely that the figure wouldn't be much higher than 20%.

7.6 so closer to 8 technically is the average for teams who have survived (newly promoted) after 6 games.

yeah Cjay but it is 36 goals or assists out of 190 goals or assists. Jeez fella I already explained that to you.

Like I said though we had 7 after 3 and went down. If you say face City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc in your first 6 games you likely won't have many points. Wolves got off to a terrible start last season. 1 point after 8 matches but stayed up. They had a tough run of fixtures. Once the fixtures eased they started picking up points. Was it the new manager or was it easier fixtures?Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:37 pm 7.6 so closer to 8 technically is the average for teams who have survived (newly promoted) after 6 games.

I can't remember the exact numbers now but are obviously some exceptions but since the division became a 20 team division its very few.
And tends to be if are other teams (more than 3) doing as bad which obviously changes it a bit.
Was in an article by Sky Sports or The Athletic or something (can't find it now)

If you went around all the team using your maths then our players would be directly involved in 200% of our goals.
Ruddy hell my 6 year old is better at maths than you.

It was the new manager same as Everton.weasel wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 10:56 pm Like I said though we had 7 after 3 and went down. I think until we get 40 points I won't be thinking we are nearly safe. Felt the same way throughout Bielsa's first season in the prem. A team can go on a terrible run at any time. We had it under Bielsa season 2 when we had a tough run and then sacked Bielsa just in time for the easier run.

It shows how easily stats can be misinterpreted by people who rely on them and then trot them out as if they are the be all and end all of everything and cannot be questioned. Our player combined stats would result in them being responsible for 200% of our goal contributions. When you figure it out you'll thank me.
